    I think the devs want to teach us about how real life works. The ending is ambiguous just like how in life we won't get to know if someone will ever forgive us or not. What matters at the end of the day is that we forgive ourselves. The reaction is up to our speculation, but the fact that Sunny had that confrontation is enough to prove how he had moved on.

      There actually is a deleted scene where we see sunny collapsing to the ground in basils hospital room and the gang checking up on him to see if he is Okay, afterwards sunny says his first word, which is "I"
      Afterwards he says "have to tell you guys something"
      İt was probably deleted because of the scene kind of ruins the games main lesson and kind of ruins sunny's whole "quiet protoganist" specialty

    When it comes to whether they can forgive Sunny or not, In my opinion, I think the game gives too much foreshadowing towards the love Sunny's friends have for him for them to NOT forgive him.
    For one, not only is it made obvious how close they all still are even years later, the game gives each character a VERY GOOD reason to forgive Sunny;
    AUBREY nearly killed Basil when she pushed him in the lake, she would know how it feels to accidentally hurt someone you care about, and she would understand the guilt Sunny feels. Her ANGER gives her a reason to understand and forgive Sunny.
    HERO believes his soulmate took her OWN LIFE, and even in part blames himself for it, since he has no valid reason for her to "leave us the way she did". The fact it was all an honest accident, I truly think, could give him nothing other than RELIEF that he had nothing to do with her death as well as the fact that, in all honesty, she probably died perfectly happy. The SADNESS Hero thinks Mari was suffering with, and that he will come to learn does not exist, gives him a reason to understand and forgive Sunny.
    And KEL wants nothing more than to bring the friendgroup back together; he knows that's what Mari would want, he is still childish and immature enough to be able to suppress the grief and come to terms with her death which is healthiest thing for all of them to do, and by learning the truth, and seeing the other friends come together again, his one true wish would be fulfilled. His HAPPINESS gives him a reason to understand and forgive Sunny.
    But for two, I am one to believe the supernatural elements of the game do exist, I do think SOMETHING and HELLMARI are fragments of Mari's spirit clinging to Sunny until he accepts the truth while being occasionally twisted into terrifying imagery by Sunny's guilt and self-hatred. I believe this due to things like the two separate forms of Mari in headspace having no reason to exist unless one is the fake puppet made by OMORI and one is Mari herself, as well as the piano playing itself and other things. But I also believe Sunny has an uncanny ability to understand people's feelings, especially through his dreams. "My thoughts will follow you into your dreams." In the real world, Sunny is described as being quiet and gentle, and more specifically, Basil describes him as a very good listener. But in Headspace this is wildly amplified, as the dream versions of Sunny's friends, built by OMORI from Sunny's memories and imagination, are perfect reflections of his friend's personalities and emotions albeit over exaggerated. I TRULY think that Sunny not only knows his friends better than even they know themselves, he is just gifted this way, but that the HEADSPACE forms of his friends are fragments of themselves created by his mind the same way as SOMETHING. So when his friend's dream forms tell him he needs to "trust that they'll forgive him", it isn't just Sunny's conscious trying to soothe him, it is the pure and utter truth of what they feel. Sunny just knows this somehow. It is their thoughts, and they have followed Sunny into his dreams.
    EVEN if you don't believe Mari's spirit exists, and that all the supernatural themes in the game are hallucinations conjured by Sunny's mind to help him cope, it only LENDS itself to the fact Sunny is extraordinarily gifted at seeing into his friends' real thoughts. He was right about was Mari would have wanted, and I'm sure he's right about his friends too.
    He only needs to trust them, and we the players must too.

      Honestly, I think they’d initially react like…how you’d expect anyone to react initially hearing something so shocking, but I think they’d forgive after some time. I think Hero would forgive Sunny first honestly, since Hero’s an adult and is the most mature of them, he’d probably be able to rationalise that this was all an accident easier, and forgive Sunny and Basil because they were both in a panic and it’s hard to reverse an action like faking his girlfriends suicide (And the reasons you gave.)
      I think Kel would feel conflicted. On one hand, even if pushing Mari was an accident, faking the suicide wasn’t, and he’d probably understand it’s a horrible thing to do. On the other…Like you said, he wants the group back together, and he can’t just forget all the good times with Sunny and Basil. So I think he’d be conflicted, but he’d probably forgive over time.
      Now, Aubrey on the other hand…She’d probably not forgive I think. Well, not exactly. I think hearing this would probably hit her the hardest, since she was finally warming up to Sunny and Basil again, and then suddenly she hears what they did. But, I think she would consider the stuff you said about her in the end, and while I don’t think she would FORGIVE Sunny and Basil, I think she’d stop holding a grudge against them. Maybe she wouldn’t stay friends with them, but she wouldn’t completely hate them anymore I think.
      (And also yeah, I do agree with what you said about Sunny in the second point. I never really considered the “good listener” line until now, good on you for picking that up!)
      But yeah, overall, this is just my thoughts, and I’m honestly glad the game ends the way it does. The focus was never on Sunny’s friends forgiving him, it was about him and Basil forgiving themselves. I do think they’d forgive in the end, but…The ending does properly tie into what the game is about, so I can’t be mad about it not showing what happened

    I think the point of the post credit scene being locked behind the flowers is because you showed that you didn't forget about Basil like the others in the Deep Well. In the beginning, your friends remind you about Basil's flowers, but as you progress they begin to stop reminding you as they forget about him. It shows that you made a conscious effort to make things better for him when he returns.

    I actually liked the ending.
    Did they forgive Sunny? Did they distance him and Basil from their friend group? It doesn't matter, Sunny for years has been living in fear of how his friends might react to the crime he and Basil have done, to the point he denied it ever happened, but deep down the truth hunted him, always standing behind him, causing him to experience hikokomori and avoid seeing his friends, but now that he has finally confessed, he's finally free.

  • @feelin_fine
    @feelin_fine 20 днів тому +9

    I mean, I just can't understand this. The entire POINT of the ending is you don't know exactly how the "good ending" will go. It may strain everyone's relationship, but by this time the characters (especially Sunny and Basil, Kel and Aubrey, etc.) have mended old wounds and shown how strong their bonds are. You have hope that, difficult and painful as it might be, somehow they'll make it, relieved of old guilt that built walls and now all sharing the burden and figuring out what it means for them and their futures. That's it. It doesn't give you clarity because the game isn't about making false promises. It is about life and about confronting hard truths, even when the social and personal costs may be high. It's about hope and friendship, not magic or certainty. THAT is what makes it so powerful.

    Mari dying on accident due to an argument is something that could have been forgiven with time, but Sunny and Basil hanging her up in that tree to cover the whole thing up is something that can never be forgiven. Any relief that Hero could have been granted by learning that Mari didn't actually kill herself would immediately turn to rage towards Sunny and Basil for desecrating her body and reputation in such a demonstrable way. Realistically, there can never be a satisfying resolution for this story. The only thing awaiting these characters is a lifetime of agony, horror, regret, and bitterness for everyone involved.

    • @zed9256
      @zed9256 11 днів тому

      I am of the belief that the most realistic endings are the ones with the grief taking its toll on Basil and Sunny, leading to either A: abandoning the (friend)ship or B: one or both of them dying. It’s not really a guarantee that the friends who have been mostly apart since Mari’s “suicide” would be like “Oh, okay!” to Sunny and Basil telling everyone the truth. I can see Aubrey getting even more upset than she already was at Basil and Hero feeling betrayed by Sunny for ruining a relationship. Even IF Mari’s perfectionism drove Sunny to madness, it’s still murder, almost. Jumping out of the building would essentially cover everything up and since Sunny is now dead, his secret dies with him. OR he and Basil both off themselves through mutilation. Again, hiding the truth at the expense of their own lives.

    It was done this way for one important reason. If we were shown what happened next, players would focus on the character's reaction, not on what was most important in this ending and the entire game. This thing is overcoming fear and anxiety. At the very end, Sunny overcame his greatest fear, confessing the truth. Something that kept him from leaving the house for 4 years, something that was killing him and Basil every day. The whole confession of truth, the shedding of guilt and fear, was supposed to be overshadowed by something else?

  • @jthecryptid
    @jthecryptid 26 днів тому +2

    I was initially unsatisfied by the ambiguity but after it settled i realized it was the best decision the devs could have made.
    Omocat and co wrote over a dozen endings fir this game but none of them felt right. The story has elements that heavily suggest Sunny and Basil either are or will eventually be forgiven. Sunny's reaction in the secret cutscene suggests that whatever the reaction was, it's not as bad as he/we the audience feared. He smiles at Basil as his Something/Mari's ghost closes her eye and passes on
    At the same time, there are things we learn about the friends temperments (and audience biases) that make some fans believe that the friend group would hate and abandon them. (Tho not to the extreme of "Hero tagged you/Aubrey tagged Basil.") For example, Kel is bullheaded and takes situations at face value, which makes him indignant and hard for him to listen conflicting povs. Sunny is his best friemd and Kel wishes he had been there for him, but the nature of the Truth is incredibly sensitive and what Sunny and Basil did, while forgivable from the pov that they are scared children being eaten by their guilt, makes them very easy to condemn as "irrevocably evil" from more biased/reactionary povs
    Would Kel's bullheaded stubborness hinder his ability to listen to Sunny and parse the nuance? Or will his friendship and trust in his oldest friend give him the open-mindedness to hear him out? We'll never know. It boils down to your interpretation
    And ultimately, this story is not about seeking forgiveness from others. It is about having the courage to confess a terrible truth, first to yourself and then the rest. It is about forgiving yourself forcpast wrongs and giving yourself the mental space to heal and grow. To be a better person than you were before even if it's too late to mend broken bridges.(and the story itself gives us hope that things can get better)

  • @SoyFurr0
    @SoyFurr0 29 днів тому +9

    From my point of view.. it was stupid not to show the reactions... and your idea is much better laid out... putting a dialogue of Sunny saying that...
    if they had wanted to put a cinematic they could have replaced the secret final cinematic with the group's reaction to the truth... that would have been much better and in the end leave the 'post-cinematic' as something that you are forced to see if you get the true ending... since the player has no way of knowing about gardeing the plants gives the perfect ending close... in the end it could have made the ending MUCH more satisfying, and the reaction of the friends is somethig you can try to get instead...
    I think leaving the reactions as something open that you can imagine but NOT know what happened... helps the player feel bad and stay more connected to the story, to try to make that depressing feeling of the ending go away... but the imagination only ties you to the story... making the story better for the average person... but in the end it's still frustrating.

    • @SoyFurr0
      @SoyFurr0 29 днів тому +2

      Even if they put the reactions in Omori's manga... the manga is NOT the original story, it can follow the path but it will never be the same... Omori is Omori, if Omocat wanted to fix this "problem" he should make something like a "BlackSpace 3" as additional content... among everything that can appear at the end of the expansion you will see the reactions and you will be satisfied without the story being modified, that is a solution in case Omocat wanted to...
      In my case I like that it is an open ending, but is frustating... like if your effort as player wasn't enough for see the reaction... the thing you worked so hard for get and at the end nothing is revealed... still is a good ending.

  • @Keubab

    imo the point of the whole story isn't the morality of what he did or how his friends will react, it's just about his own guilt and trauma: he finally overcomes them and tells the truth, and that's it. this needs nothing more, and the credit scene says that he's finally moving on, taking a fresh start despite everything he did, and that's a perfect ending for what the game is trying to tell

The last of us ends kind of abruptly and the music is really good. It feels dark yet also calming which is exactly how that ending feels. As for deltarunes case the ending music is strangely peaceful despite the massive cliffhanger leaving off a strange feeling for the player but in a good way. The credit music for omori just doesn’t really fit either of those two categories making it just not feel right and not in a good way.

    the entire game is not about if kel hero and aubrey will forgive basil and sunny, its about basil and sunny forgiving themselves; and the journey it took to get there. to leave the story off on knowing both of their guilt (somethings) have faded is all what was relevant to the plot. nothing more, but nothing less. to show their friends’ reactions will take away from basil and sunny’s forgiveness of themselves which is what is actually important to all we’ve been shown that sunny and basil went through. we all wanted to know more than what we got, but deep down we know its all we needed.
    also i think the extra scene takes the extra effort because it really cements it in us that all we did was not in vain and our two leads did end up accomplishing their goal. it really confirms their ability to finally move on.

    I confess that I've never been a big fan of this whole "open to interpretation" thing. I always prefer a game or anything else to have concrete and official answers. And it really saddens me to know that this is a very common thing (especially) in indie RPGs. I've never been satisfied with an ending like that because I'll always feel like there's something missing, I'm left with the feeling that the story is incomplete. I've always been a person who's always on the canon side of things (with rare exceptions where I prefer the fanon version) and I really hate it when I'm forced to write a fanfic to get an answer about something in a game. If I wanted to fanfic I'd go to Wattpad, Lmao.
    And before anything else, let me make it clear that I'm not begging for a "happy ending" where the friends forgive Sunny and everything turns out okay. I just want a CONCRETE ending, whether it's going to be sad or not is beside the point.

    To me personally I think its much better with the ambiguous ending. People would probably have just as much, if not more complaints if their reactions were included and didn’t meet their expectations. but thats just me, I can understand why youd feel unsatisfied. I suppose this is what fanfiction is for 😭😭

    IMO, Omori does a lot of show, don’t tell story hits, and because of that I like the good ending because it’s the same way as all the other major story hits. Also, I don’t think the friends’ reaction to what Sunny has to say is as important as it is that he’s even telling them in the first place. The ending is about Sunny finally coming to terms with what happened, and making his first steps into healing. Not seeing how other people react puts emphasis on this as the most important part of that whole conversation they likely had.

    Asking for forgiveness and Truth is the right thing to do you don't know how any one could react but you should still do it, tahts a huge morale of this story and why i like teh original ending. And i got the secret ending, i like how the game reward you looking oit for Basils plants and being a good person, and a hole cut sean is a lot of reword for something i thought wouldnt even help me but maby they mean sunny would never walk up to Basil if he never took a little bit of care for him in his subcutaneous

    here's how i sometimes imagine what happened after sunny told the truth :
    aubrey gets angry and leaves
    kel instantly forgives him
    hero leaves the room and then returns to forgive sunny
    and after minutes aubrey also forgives him
    after that while they're leaving
    sunny just fell on the hospitals stairs and fuckin dies
    (the credit starts)

    ...I honestly don't even care because I headcanon Omori Route abandon ending as canon. I know it's probably the most boring ending but it seems the most realistic to me.
    Also, good ending just somehow doesn't sit right with be at all. I know it's kind of the story's goal since OMORI is about mental health, trauma and forgiving people, forgiving yourself. But even despite I know this... I just don't like good ending for reason I haven't discovered yet. And it's not like I usually dislike good endings in stories. I'm satisfied with Steven Universe ending, with Anna's Quest ending, with Undertale true pacifist ending. But OMORI's case is different for unknown reason. Sometimes I don't understand my own brain.
    Anyway, even if I don't care about good ending at all, it was still cool to listen someone's opinion.

    Here's my personal experience and how i feel about the conclusion:
    (Feel free to agree or not)
    It's been 3 years I've finished the game for the first time.
    To be clear, the twist and the ending got me broken for a week.
    But days go by, and today, I think I am now at peace with it.
    I have the feeling that it's kind of better like that.
    You know, like the real goal was to stop keeping the truth in they're chests.
    Sunny said the truth, leaving him and Basil the opportunity to move on with their life.
    The End.
    Altough, i can totally understand your feeling about all this, i also have a friend of mine sharing the same.

    While I find the base ending good enough for the same reasons everyone in the comments say, I do find your ending idea better. We don't entirely kow their reaction to the Truth in it. Only their obvious surprise and Hero leaving without making us being certain if he's genuinely angry or too confused to know himself how he feels about this. And Kel and Aubrey are even less clear since they immediately run after Hero. Sure, it still slightly reveals their reaction, but it is more impacting than the base game's good ending fore sure. Especially repeating Dream Basil's words at the end would've been perfect.
    Still, I don't think the ending cutscene is the worst part of the good ending.
    Good Morning could've had vocal lyrics. Omocat released a vocal version with Bo En and members of the team after the release but c'mon, they could've implemented it in the original game!

    i would love a comic about how kel, aubrey, hero and basil deal with everything when the truth comes out. maybe with flashbacks to the time between when mari died and when the game starts. how everyone coped with mari's death, and now how every copes with the news of the truth. it was touched on in the game, but i think deeper character exploration would be really cool
