  • The Aprilia APRC / electronics system is one of the best motorcycle electronic packages available today. The same system is fitted to the RSV4 and Tuono. In this video we test out all of the functions and give an overview of how they all work.
    Its talky and quite long this video but I wanted to cover everything properly.

    Sport, track, race
    thats the order from low to high, track and race thrttle response is practically identical, race having less engine braking
    Source: my 2016 tuono factory

    One more thing: you have a additional display mode: race mode. Push the selector switch 5 seconds to the right --> display will change from road to track. Now you can meassure your laps with the high beam. Afterwards you can check your laps: time, max lean angle, max brakes, ....

      so you can just tested it thanks!! Will save me loads of speedo editing also hehe

  • @flipper323
    @flipper323 7 років тому +2

    As you already figured out, the electronics is ready to race. Meaning, that the AWC has to be aggresive or u will do a looping on track.
    I´ve turned it off on the road. There is no sence to it on the road. Perfect thing is, that it stays off when you start next time the engine.
    If u are going to test the ABS: Level 1 = no cornering ABS, no rear wheel lift control. On good Roads u will have the rear wheel in the air with abs mode 1.

    Great stuff Chops, as you know I've just purchased one of these and the detail on the electronics is much appreciated. As an old guy handling all the digital gizmos can be a bit much sometimes. So, I am working my way through the potential settings on all of these APRC things. Right now everything is set to "full nanny" so I don't get into too much trouble early on. Also, totally agree about the gas gauge, I mean really for $17.5K USD?!!! Looking forward to more of these.

      Glad its helped Garey, the electronics on this bike are the best ive ever tried absolutely amazing. In the wet today traction control as perfect!

    Great review, I will be getting mine this weekend, If the power modes are the same as with the 2012 (I currently own)
    T= Track
    S=Sport
    R=Road (rain)

      No, mode are different in the 2017 Modell.
      Sport
      Track
      Race
      The ranking is:
      most engine brake in sport, viewest in race.
      most power in low rpm in sport, viewest in race.

      They are god. Its important to have a god dealer also. Im a member in a couple off groups and I dont hear anything bad. Not more than any other bike. They had more problems before this latest V4 configuration. Ive let my italian fear go so this year i had a Ducati Diavel. Driven it 5000km with no problem what so ever and in two days i will trade it for a Tuono Factory.

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  7 років тому +2

      Well the Tuono is more expensive but for me the better bike. S1000R still great though but a little dull compared to the Tuono

    • @fantomas3030
      @fantomas3030 7 років тому +1

      If I were you I'll choose the BMW S1000R, although I personally did take the Tuono because after selling back to them my S1000RR, I didn't want to deal with BMW people anymore: here in Vienna, there's only ! BMW Motorrad. After trhat, you have to ride a minimun of 120 km to find one. After buying the Tuono, I did compare it to my test drive with 2017 S1000R and you can definetely do more with the bmw: the range alone: 200km before you see a warning lamp. On the Tuono, 151 km (my best so far) before the lamp lights up.
      The seat: the Tuono's is hard as a rock (AC/DC fans?). I bought a Comfort/Sport gel seat from Aprilia. A bit better but still testing. The stock S1000R seat is good. I did have a comfort seat on my RR but just because it's 2.3 cm higher (33 inches inseam here) and with the HP (by Gilles Tooling) adjustable footpegs, it was almost perfect.
      Apparently, you can only deactivate wheelie control on both machines by shutting the Traction control off. The Aprilia has 3 settings which they could just have left 1 because none of them let you lift the front wheel without being 1 second later put down to the ground.
      Why do I regret to have bought the Tuono? Freedom: you can't just put any exhaust on it (2017): you'll need the official Akra (+ or - 1,000 euros) or the race ECU (900 euros) and any other exhaust PLUS the corresponding fuel map. The stock exhaust sounds great tho but it's ugly and being ready to change will cost you a lot of money, taking into account that the bike ain't cheap.
      The fueling is horrible in the city: you have to feather the clutch for anything below 40 km/h, where the city speed limit is 50. On B roads and on the highway, it's a phenomenal bike. For commuting, the bmw is better.

    • @montha123
      @montha123 5 років тому

      fantomas3030 have u still got the Tuono , I bought Bmw s1000r spirt this year and all going g good 5000 kms jyst comming up on it now , the dealer network is what turns me from buying one of these , there is no official dealer here in Ireland yet but I was looking at one in my local bike shop the other day & I liked the looks of the Tuono I’m just wondering would it handle day to day commuting on back roads here in Ireland , I’m guessing there would be great character from the v4 engine & mauve more is a fun factor but kinda worried about the reliability etc ,what is the warranty like etc with aprilia ? Sorry for s the questions but love to get a run down on them from an actual owner thanks

    track bikes dont need fuel gauges ;) All the bells and whistles except the 'essentials'. Knowing how far you can go is okay, but for reassurance, a fuel gauge would be nice. But im guessing, watching it drop by the second would be quite depressing ;)

    I just had a thought but, they may have considered fuel gauges at some point but realized that with a sport bike there's too much slosh to actually put a gauge on. I get it, fuel light, it's easy enough to just program in a gauge, but they may have considered it to be too inaccurate of the actual level due to the slosh.

      Two stroke power is great but the v4 engines are awesome!! It depends on what you want to do with the bike, if you want to actually use it then I would say a modern V4 takes some beating.

    Hi chops I'm a old lad in my 60s and not really into reading manuals etc. I'm a old 2 stroke man and have a aprilia tuono factory v4 and never ride it much because all these electrical switches and gizmos have me baffled. I have learned more in this video than I have on the bike. I'm looking forward to the new season to try all these things out.thanks man

    Great review - really informative and enjoyed it. one question: how does the low-mid rpm fueling compare to the 2016 version? or even better, any chance of getting a comparison of the 2106 and 2017 from a riding perspective (not tech specs)?

    • @flipper323
      @flipper323 7 років тому

      I was riding the 2016 RR and Factory. Now i bought the new 2017. I could tell the difference between thr 2016 RR and Factory. I was more into the Factory, because of the ohelins supsension.
      Besides the electronics: the 2017 has bigger brakes and newer oehlins supsension. If u are a racer, the brakes could make a difference to you. Normal road rinding it´s both fine.
      Supension wise: because the frame is the same: perhaps there is a slightly difference. will you be happy with 2016 supsension? no daubt.

      Congrats on your new bike! Any thoughts on differences in low speed fueling/engine braking between '16 and '17 models? i've ridden a '16 a fair amount and was curious about differences in the 17 model. thx

    • @flipper323
      @flipper323 7 років тому +1

      Windy Run Thank you 😀.Fueling with 2017 is fine to mee. between 6 and 7 liter / 100 km. Engine brakes and throttle contoll is a big difference betwenn 16 and 17: in 17 u can adjust the engine braking. i like the less engine braking because it feels smoother to mee.
      With 2017 it is also easier to ride through cities because the throttle is better/ smoother to contoll.

    No fuel gage ? So how many miles left when the gas light comes on !? Guess I have to keep track of it which it sucks in long trips . Great review

      I really don't understand how some of the most expensive bikes don't have a fuel gauge. my $7k FZ-07 has one...

      Paul Gilder mine on a cargo ship 🚢 can't wait 😊 120 miles for me is more than enough , No fuel Gages but still can see current gas mileage and average should be ok thought there was not gas Information at all other than the gas light . Thanks for the replies and keep riding safe !!

      It is: you have a small wheel on the right hand side, beneath the left mirror's screw. You adjust the friction point but you can't flip the lever up.

    • @diskreet
      @diskreet 7 років тому

      fantomas3030 that's the clutch cable - it's adjustable on all bikes. The lever itself isn't though. I have my Tuono now and I'll be installing new levers once I do the first service, along with a few other accessories

      @Joe Montanino No as i got such a great deal £13,500 with tail tidy, Akra and map brand new, the new one will be coming in around 18 grand thats £4500 more than i paid. No worth it for the few tech upgrades, as bike still great as is for the everyday rider and advanced. If in 2 years i fancy changing then they might have full on facelift upgrade then i may go for it.

    In which range are the quickshifter and the blipper „working“ (well)?

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  5 років тому +1

      It works pretty good in most situations tbh. Sometimes gentle inputs could catch it out but overall fantastic! Also when the bike was cold it wasn't so smooth

    • @grumpyguy6407
      @grumpyguy6407 5 років тому

      Lamb Chop Rides so, there is no min. RPM to use it? Do you use the blipper and quickshifter all the time or are there situations, where you use the clutch?

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  5 років тому +1

      I think below 2k you shouldn't use it but that's it. You can use it all the time, use the clutch to pull away only 👍

      @@grumpyguy6407 From the manual:
      Aprilia Quick Shift
      It is a system that allows go up and down the gears without having to use the clutch
      'and without changing the position of the throttle grip.
      It uses the gear shift sensor signal on the gear lever to shift gears more quickly with
      a lower decrease in rpm than a traditional gear shift as regards upshifting.
      The system is only active above an engine speed: of approximately 3,000 rpm.
