You're trying to suggest palm oil deforestation is therefore OK? Deforestation is not OK in either place, but is on a massively larger scale and so its much more destructive in palm oil regions. Face it - palm oil deforestation needs to stop. Not all the ways the very wealthy make money for themselves is justifiable, and you can't pretend this is OK with the 'what about' argument.

I'm with you. Palm oil is used because seed oils were responsible for more than 100,000 deaths in the US alone per year from heart disease because of trans fats. Palm oil was the healthy alternative that has no trans fats, is rich in vitamin A and vitamin E and other associated tocopherols. The Soy industry responsible for destroying the Amazon rain forests tried to produce a trans free soy oil that was as good for deep frying and baking as palm oil was. They couldn't compete and lost billions in profits over a 10 year period. Their answer was to put their money into nature and wildlife funds with cute orangutans on the front cover to demonise the palm oil industry. Their product causes more rain forest destruction than palm but not to orangutans. What they did worked because concerned (gulable) shoppers demanded that palm oil not be used in food products. Meaning that soy, Canola, corn oils, etc were used that contain dangerous levels of omega 6 and trans fats when partially hydrated for deep frying and baking. More rain forests were destroyed but not in Indonesia and they're more likely to die from heart disease!🤪

It is also a great personal deodorant, in which case the baking soda is needed! Trans fat is deadly. Seed oils were causing more than 100,000 deaths in the US alone each year from heart disease because of their levels of trans fats. Palm oil is trans fat free, has good amounts of vitamin A and high amounts of the right type of vitamin E tocopherols so why would you want to take palm fruit oil out of food products and replace it with the deadly vegetable seed oils again? Palm fruit and it's oil comes from Africa and has been used for millenias by Africans, including by the ancient Egyptians as a valued fruit and oil source👍

STFU. Germany & France & The UK has far less forests area as a % compared to Malaysia & Indonesia. They can cut 70-80% of their trees and nobody threatens to ban their export. Meanwhile in Malaysia & Indonesia the problem is much less severe and these people who chop more trees than us want to preach about deforestation. Palm oil is not dangerous, it's debatable to this day. Every type of food has its pros and cons. Alcohol is good for your health but if you take it excessively it's deadly. So you do the check & balance and you will see palm oil is not any more dangerous than any other oil, it's cheaper and it makes the most economic sense, plus those lazy Europeans don't want to do dirty farm work anyway. It's also funny when 2 years ago Indonesia banned palm oil exports the EU was begging for more palm oil 😂😂😂. The EU parliament is filled with just a bunch of idiots. You must be an idiot too if you believe in their lies.

What no one seems to realize is that there is not enough land in the tropics to provide palm oil products for right billion people.
It took the annihilation of the indo Malayan rain forest to make that clear. All of the worlds tropical forests are being destroyed mainly today for palm oil. And it's still not enough.
Yet strangely enough the world got along just fine without the stuff.

Do you think that by stopping the production of palm oil you'll save the planet? As this campaign hitted the consumers, good marketers started to put big "palm oil free" ads on their biscuits, even though using palm oil could've been more sustainable than using other fats. Now they will just find another fat, maybe unhealthier, and not environmentally friendly either, and you consumer will just forget this story, while thousands of Indonesians maybe lost their job because of the drop in demand of palm oil. Now the solution is, (and I'm not just talking about palm oil production, this is true for the whole industrial farming sector), that the wealthy western consumer starts to ask for food that's sustainably made (both from the social, economic and environmental point of view) and most importantly, is willing to pay it the right PRICE. Do you want poor Vietnamese children not being exploited for fabrics making? Then stop buying 10 or more t-shirts a-year for $5 each!!!!!
That's capitalism, baby. It is as easy as that.
Indonesian people, LDC people in general, have their RIGHT TO DEVELOPMENT.
And seeing some wealthy, western folks proudly talking about their "ethically" made, palm oil-free biscuits, while blaming on Indonesian for deforestation, even though their own countries are historically responsible for the large majority of GHG emissions.... JUST MAKES ME LAUGH.

The world devotes more than 300 million hectares for oilcrop production. Palm oil accounts for 6% of this land use, which is small when we consider that it produces 36% of the oil.
We can compare crops in terms of their yields - how much oil we can produce from one hectare of land. This comparison is shown in the chart. Palm oil stands out immediately. It achieves a much higher yield than the alternatives. From each hectare of land, you can produce about 2.8 tonnes of palm oil. That’s around four times higher than alternatives such as sunflower or rapeseed oil (where you get about 0.7 tonnes per hectare); and 10 to 15 times higher than popular alternatives such as coconut or groundnut oil (where you get 0.2 tonnes per hectare).
1 hectare of palm produces 12 hectares of soybean oil.
That makes Europe unable to compete because their land can only be planted with soybeans.

The Malaysian palm oil industry is a major source of smallholder economies and has helped bring them and their families out of poverty. Dr Mahathir Mohamad rejected the claim that oil palm cultivation was the main cause of deforestation as it was mainly cultivated in specialized agricultural land. Only 0.4% of the total global agricultural area is used for oil palm cultivation. Palm oil is not only less expensive than soybean or sunflower oil but it requires less soil to produce and provide jobs.

Palm oil creates poverty. It destroys natural resources forever. They can use land to produce crops and raise animals to eat with their families as it is made where I live. They don't need more. They can build traditional homes with natural materials. They don't need electricity or modern commodities. In my island many people live like that. We must not create the need for new products when they have always been happy without our trash culture. We are wrong and they are right. In my island people were perfectly happy and healthy without technology. They had water, they had fire, they had houses, they grew food, they raised animals. They had their own shamans and natural medicine. Modernity is the source of all evil. They should stop having so many children if still they find out it is not working! Overpopulation is a continuous cause of disease all over the world. Two children per women is the replacement population. Otherwise poverty will always persist.

That;s equivalent to 15.5 million hectares only. Soy bean is far damaging to the amazon than the palm oil to south east asia.
    2. Oil seeds that includes soy bean account for 5.25% of that 5 billion hectares. (yep, soy bean alone accounts for 120 million hectares - compare that to what palm oil land use is?)
    3. Palm oil gives yield up to 3.6 tonnes per hectare, compared to only 0.43 tonne per hectare for soy bean (yes, palm oil has been saving us, the earth from more agricultural land.
    4. Malaysia's palm oil plantations are actually from other crops that have been converted to palm oil. Mostly rubber trees, cocoa and other crops.

I think its because of the demand that creates supplies. The demand had initially came from the west,..I can say Portugese, VOC started the idea depleting our resources starting in 15th century, and then come other countries, while we had our inherited local wisdom to care for our natural resources, it was spoiled. Industrial period was introduced from the west and we are a nation of resources in developing economic growth, palm oil industry became one of them. It gave us job employment from a perilous opportunity. The world use palm oil for much of the consumer retail food, snack manufacturers , personal care and cosmetics (mainly palm kernel oil), Biofuel and energy ,animal feed (palm kernel expeller), Pharmaceutical , Industrial . Who started this ? We did not use any of these stuff back in the old time. Not to mention that much of palm oil land in Indonesia are owned by Singapore and Malaysian. If we stop the demand, use other material and let us manage our resources and retain our forest. Forest are natural and do not need the human touch. This is a problem inherited from 1960's to our current Govt administration. I’m relived EU has banned palm oil imports from Indonesia I think it should never had started (other PO importers as well ). Lets move forward to ensure they have the right policy and enforcement to prevent further damage. Hoping to have ethical production

My understanding is that soy oil (grown in western nations) is competing with palm oil (asian/african), so they are trying to kill the palm oil market.

Rainforests only cover 2% of the world's landmass, but they contain over 50% of the world's biodiversity. Deforestation in South East Asia is happening faster than in any other forest on Earth.
We are in the biggest mass extinction event since the age of the dinosaurs. Millions of years of evolution and thousands of years of culture has been lost in the last 30 years.
The world doesn't need palm oil. Biofuel is slowing the transition to electric vehicles and contributing to climate change. Other oils can be grown on areas that are not significant biodiversity hotspots.

Sunflowers oil plantations in Europe much more worse, why you don't lift that issue? See no more forest in Europe. For as I know sunflower absorb less carbon and release less oxygen due to its small size.
Having said deforestation in Indonesia why European doesn't rebuild their lost forest?

Its not the palm oil that you should ban.. you should ban deforestation.. palm oil is a good product, not dangerous. If thats the case, you should ban everything that is created using factory because it brings pollution to the world. Deforestation is wrong, not palm oil

this is propaganda ,, whose forest is responsible? if Europeans really love forests, they help take care of them, not impose operations on the state of the forest owner,

If not palm oil, what then?
Ecotourism only goes so far. Many tourist quickly realize that a tropical rain forest is wet, hot, humid., full of leaches, mosquitoes and other biting insects. Very few tourist are tough enough to hike in such conditions much less camp in there (ie waking up to a cluster of 20 leeches on the side of your body).
Also rain forest land is very infertile due to the rainfall washing out must of the nutrients in the soil. You cannot plant most crops on laterite soil. The few things you can grow is palm oil.
At the end of the day your have to ask yourself, what is the worth of animal life compared to human life .
Indonesia has a population of 264 million. By definition nearly all its land was once rain forest.

This video doesnt represent and judge the whole picture of current palm oil industry. Anybody are welcome to those producing countries to see how they are being cultivated. Then they will for sure understand!

Not only this but all beautiful rain forests in Indonesia , Thailand, Borneo, Java, Sumatra is being destroyed by these greedy people. Boycott palm oil because to plant palm crops, people are burning and cutting precious rainforests in these south asian countries.
