This is why I don’t think it’s a good idea to tell hitters that they need a bath bat up through the ball. Even if you emphasize slightly up. More times than not it creates just what you said. The hitter swings becomes to long, they drop back side, loose the barrel, etc... Every hitter is different of course. But for most it becomes “feel vs real”. You have to tell them slightly different than what you actually want. JMO of course. And what I’ve learned and witnessed over the years.
James Clark definitely depends on the player I agree. I think this is why coaches need to be flexible and understand that every player has different feels and may need to think different things to complete the objective. Same thing goes the other way too. Tell certain players stay above the ball and swing down to it and they chop at the ball and never turn the barrel behind it
