Close friends are doing the “loop”. As of August 21 they are in Wisconsin. You are spectacular in a very ordinary and lovely way. Your demeanor is comforting Sir. Please fight through the editing process and continue to produce this valuable content.🎉
Definitely get the steering ram fixed. A couple of weeks ago our hydraulic ram totally failed and the rudder flipped hard to starboard to the point we could not use the helm..Bottomline it took two weeks to find and install a new ram. Keep up the great videos and BTW, suggest you stop in South Haven, our home port -
It seems that so many Loopers miss so much of the Lake Michigan coastal ports in their "race" to Chicago. Manistee is a great town/marina as is Leland, Frankfort, Ludington, Pentwater, etc., etc. The Wisconsin side has it's share of great ports as well.
It’s because of the weather window. I do not like bumpy water at all, so I run long distances while the lake is flat. I would love to see every town, but just not enough time.
@MV_Checkmate I guess. Here I sit in the shadow of the Mackinac Bridge with a 3 day forecast of "light and variable" winds and 1' or less seas. I think the docktail scuttlebutt has made you guys gun shy of the lakes that have many great days through September. I've enjoyed your solo voyage. Safe travels and calm seas to you.
Terrific video once again. Very lucky with the weather! Nice to be able to "make tracks" when the opportunity comes up. Clever water filtration system -- how many gallons will the filter pass before the filter needs to be replaced? In a small marina like Manistee where there aren't enough visiting boats for docktails, it might be fun to stretch the budget a tad and have dinner sitting at the bar of a local restaurant. You'll meet people at the bar and learn lots about the local area. Your scooter is amazing, great idea.
The odd boat you saw was a traditional commercial fishing boat for Lake Michigan. Everything is enclosed to keep the weather out. There are sliding doors on the sides they open to work the gear then shut them to keep the water out and the heat in..
Another great video!!! quick question: what brand scooter do you have? seems light enough to carry out of the boat but sturdy enough for an adult to ride. Thanks in advance!
It’s a TurboAnt Max-7. Quite light and the battery is removable which was a big selling point for me. I keep the battery in a metal toolbox for fire safety. I’ll do a walkthrough in an upcoming video.
DaVinvi Resolve. Workflow is difficult to explain as it encapsulates several days, different cameras, and creative editing to make all come together cohesively. It’s a whole lot more difficult than I thought it would be.
You corrected yourself. The bridge connects the city of St. Ignace to the north with the village of Mackinaw City to the south. You took the ferry to the island.
@@MV_Checkmate great subject matter for your videos. It's mostly a joke with me but there are guys who would be horrified... since you're talking about boats and boating perhaps worth a mention, no? And say something to the effect of "I don't believe in bad luck, but i do believe in preparation..." or something very captain-like... Keep up the good work, love the vids.
Search the internet because I don't remember what I mixed it wit; water or alcohol. Get some spearmint oil and put it in a spray bottle. There may be a cheap bulk supply. I paid way too much at a health food store. Sprayed my dad's pontoon, the poles holding the dock covering and the lines. No spiders. Only boat in marina without them except I guy I fished w sometimes right next to us. Yes, I sprayed his coat too! Not sticking and didn't attract dirt
@@MV_Checkmatenot everyone can be as perfect as some of the commentators! I am old and tired; don’t care what state on the water I am in; just having a good time boating.
Question sir. I'm assuming you don't have a lower helm. If that's the case, is the upper climate controlled? If not, was wondering how operating up top without being in ac or heat impacts your trip, and would you recommend having an upper/lower helm? Continued safe travels!
Only upper helm. It has been either chilly (jacket weather) then I leave the Isingglass closed till about 10AM or so. On the hot days I open all the isinglass and around 10AM I turn on a fan. I feel that a climate controlled wheelhouse would not let me experience the true atmosphere of my surroundings.
I can't believe your ignorance in planning your trip and anchorages. you slid right by the best boating spots on Lake Michigan, from Harbor Springs/ Petoskt down to Charlevoux and Grand Traverse Bay!!! That's the best boating I have ever experienced in my 40 years of boating both the Great Lakes and the Charleston to Beaufort/Hilton Head areas!!!!! You stayed in the DUMPS of Lake Michigan!
Nice video but get your geography right. And you’re doing the loop? The Mackinac Bridge connects Michigan’s lower penninsula with Michigan’s upper penninsula. It is five miles in length. And you are following the Michigan coastline, not Wisconsin. Duh!
Glad to see you’re enjoying Michigan and Great Lakes. I could spend the entire summer on Michigan, Huron and Superior and never get bored.
Great advice about the water filter and the cost of marinas.
Another fantastic episode!! Thank you for letting us follow your journey.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love all the friendly people you meet every stop. Another great video, beautifully edited. Can't wait for the next one.
More to come!

Oh wow! Thanks for the great comments.
Another super video and couldn’t agree more, the folks you meet in a Marina are the salt of the earth 👌
Absolutely
Great video as always. Thanks for letting me ride along.
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great an informative video…thank you!
Very interesting as usual. I am happy that you are enjoying your trip, so am I. Keep on, keeping on. Safe passage, thanks.
Thanks!
Another great video. Good luck with the project and safe travels.

South Haven was very nice. My videos are a couple weeks behind.

Enjoyed your video. It was great meeting you yesterday.
You too!
Love the videos and journey. Let me know if you stop by Waukegan Harbor on your way down.
Thanks! Will do!

It says it will last for 1000 gallons, but I replace it every 3 months.
Thank you, so nice to follow you
Thanks for watching.
Love the videos!! Love you keeping it real, been following you since you left FL. Let me know if you stop at Green Turtle Bay, TN river (KY Lake).
Will do!!

I’m sure your well past Michigan but if not stop in south haven, you’ll like the town
I did. Nice place for sure.
Those are salmon fisherman! I'm surprised your not trying to catch one
Would love to, but it takes specialized equipment and proper depth and speed which I was not prepared for.

What boat are you running the GL in?
Don't ever bring a banana on your boat! Bad luck!
Not for the banana boat.
Nah, love my bananas and not superstitious.

The bridge attaches lower Michigan to upper Michigan it's all Michigan. Weather couldn't be nicer it looks, not bumpy at all??

I check it out, thanks.
An hour later than usual. New release schedule ?
Hmmm…I’m currently in the Central timezone. Guess I need to specify EST.
Thanks for the info.
I'd be a little concerned sailing with a captain who doesn't know if he's in Lake Ontario or Lake Huron.
He's not even sure what state he's in.
I have no clue, nor do I care, ha.

Mac attaches lower peninsula of Michigan to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Copy that. Thanks.
Just Started watching your channel, Just noticed you are currently a couple of boats down from me now 7009 if you need anything or just want to say Hi
Thanks Mark.
@@MV_Checkmate Safe Travels, Great Job on the Videos.
The Mackinac Bridge connects Michigan to Michigan.
Yep, I was trying to specify which city, but it didn’t come out right.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
IT connects michigans upper peninsula and lower peninsula
Thanks.

LMAO!! Wrong!! It connects the U.P. to lower Michigan
