I live in the South. I never needed shade cloth until this year, even growing things that are native/great with heat. B/c this whole 'full sun/heat' thing isn't working here in the South this year. But I have also focused on pruning AND harvesting daily. This has helped my tomatoes more than anything in this intense heat/humidity.
The water bottle tip was genius! My shade cloth kept getting stuck on my bamboo poles that are taller than the tomato cage. I used this tip today, since the forecast is 94. Wow, the shade cloth just slid over the water bottle, no problem. Thanks for sharing this tip.
@kholt6641 same here we have raised beds with cages surrounded with chicken coop we love em! Our shade cloths would snag as well ! So glad I saw this can wait to use the bottles ☺️
I'm using thin white permeable Agricultural fabric I use as frost protection as shade cloth. Time to invest in proper (maybe 40%) shade cloth. 95 tomorrow here Monterey bay inland. I shall clip it up over my seedlings! 🌱
Thanks! I’m going to get some of those rolling drip trays. I have some but I like that there’s a drainage hole and tray on these. You’re always so helpful!
Texas 8a -Last year in Aug I had almost gotten my plants through the summer and was ready to give them a boost right before the temps would start dropping . I gave them a good watering of VITALITY and was so surprised at how they perked up almost immediately. They truly looked less stressed. I like how I was able to help them without using a strong fertilizer to get them going again when they were just trying to survive. I plan on doing the same thing this year. It really is worth it.
Hi. I'm new to your channel 👋👋 I like watching your videos and so far you have taught me a lot thank you 😀 I also grow it containers mine are actually plastic totes. And so far I'm growing abundance of vegetables. But these temps I thought it was going to killy cucumbers. I took an umbrella 🏖️ and put it over them to create shade for them and it sure helped them. But now yay 😁 we're getting rain in our dry desert 🏜️ area in Pennsylvania 🥵 finally rain 🌧️☔🌱🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Hi Alicia! Welcome to the channel!!! I apologize for my delay in responding! I am very behind trying to catch up!!! I am so glad to hear that my videos have been helpful to you, YAY!!!! I am impressed what you did with umbrella---anything helps the platns stay cooler, right!!! I was not aware that PA had "dry desert"!!? My husband, aka CameraGuy was born in Pittsburgh. Glad you are getting much deserved rain, too! Alicia, you may want to tune into my weeky livestreams at 12pm on Mondays. You can interact with me, other gardeners from all over, as well as the SmartPot and Monterey Lawn/Garden Team with questions and what not. Thank you for subscribing and welcome! Kim
I wasn't able to interact on the live but Okra is not one of my favorites. Gumbo is the only way I'll eat it. My husband loves it so he is excited about the burgundy okra. Kim I will always be a viewer as long as you are on youtube. I love learning. Please you and Jerry take care!
Yes, absolutely, Angelica. Yes, it is generally okay to use worm castings and fish fertilizer together to address the yellowing of your tomato leaves. Both are organic fertilizers that can complement each other and provide a balanced nutrient profile to support healthy plant growth. CK
PS - I still don't understand the watering containers concept with automatic watering. I don't understand how to connect the multiple containers, even though I realize you have this mastered. But something isn't translating to my head. Is there another beginner video that I must have missed?
Thank you, Bernice. I hope you find that they are helpful! Plant Caddy with wheels and drain holes: amzn.to/3XY1vn8 !!! In the video description. ALL my links are always in the video description. CK

Shade cloth has been a lifesaver.

Great! They’re pretty cool. Keep a close eye on them first few times so you can fine tune adjust them, etc LMK, Teri
Great video. I found that using containers that are 10 gallons or larger works for me. I also put smaller pots to the north or east of larger pots.
Sounds like you have it dialed in!! Thank you and keep up your good work !
I use white cotton sheets that I get at thrift shops as shade cloth
Brilliant!! Money smart! CK

My tomato leaves are turned a little yellow. Do you think it’s OK to use worm casting and fish fertilizer together?
