I think periphery is the perfect combo of dream theater and meshuggah with a slight touch of sikth and muse but yes periphery is one of my fave bands Spencer setello is a fantastic vocalist
Everyone tries to recommend the newest stuff, but it's a lot to take in. I really think people should listen to the older stuff first so you can fully appreciate some of their best work. I saw another reaction to Satellites when it was only the third song they've heard, they didn't really "get" it. They liked the song, but that change half way through didn't totally work for them. Don't want people to have that experience.
@@darkphoenix2 I would recommend a mix of P1 and P2 stuff to show people how they developed their sound. I would recommend Racecar, and Masamune or Have a blast from the second album... but all Periphery albums are each special in their own respective. You should check out the band Archspire- Human Mumuration.. Thank me later. They are the fastest metal band ever.
I simply don't click with it and feel like I'm a lunatic that's missing the charm of Marigold. It's their most streamed song on Spotify and I just.. don't like it at all.
Dude, I full on loved this reaction! Love how you don't talk so much over the song but still so much of your genuine reaction can be seen on your face. It's just really pleasant to watch. Much love from Germany!
Pretty much every song from Periphery will send your brain in overtime. I've been listening to them for years and still I sometimes notice something i had not before when hearing them for the 500th time.
My favorite Periphery tracks are - Make Total Destroy, Masamune, Scarlet, Psychosphere, Alpha, The Bad Thing, Absolomb, Flatline, Marigold, Stranger Things, Blood Eagle, 22 Faces and Habitual Line Stepper but they’re one of the few bands where you can put on any song and you’ll more than likely enjoy it. Their last 5 albums are all amazing
Great start into Periphery! I'd recommend Blood Eagle if you want heavy and rhythmic. Stranger Things is really great as well. There are a lot of gems throughout their discog!
Keep it going Drew, you will not be disappointed 👌👌 ✔️Sleep Token - Higher ⌛Tesseract - Smile ✔️Periphery - Reptile ⌛Thornhill - Coven ⌛Architects - Holy Hell ⌛Loathe - I let it in and it took everything
Can’t believe you’re doing this one, absolute madman. Legit one of my favorite songs of all time. Glad you didn’t do the live version, the live version is cool, but imo only once you already know the studio version
Chances are, if you see a midroll at an inappropriate time, it's one forced by youtube. My guess is Reptile is long enough (nearly 17min) that youtube puts in midrolls because of course.
i kinda forgot i was listening to a reaction cause you just kept silent and was vibing with it as well lol, you putting the teacup down i was like wtf oh right lol. i go in and out of periphery and i missed this song before, gotta relisten to them again they are always so good
Fun fact/suggestion: Misha, Periphery's guitarist, helped Tosin of Animals as Leaders with their debut album. Misha and Tosin have two duo songs separate of either band called "Optimist" and "Pessimist".
Glad you dug it. The bits where your eyes were closed, (i.e, most of it lol), you could tell you were super focused haha. This is suuuch a good song ugh. A year and a half later and this shit still gives me chills. Btw, it's UA-cam plugging ads everywhere. The band doesn't really get to decide there the ads go afaik.
I think it has something to do with youtube pushing ads onto longer videos. Wintergatan said something about it in his latest video about ads being put somewhere during videos and that he had to manually decide to disable them. Knowing periphery something like that is the case here
that guitar sound you're talking about @7:45 has been called a natural harmonic "scrape" or "rake." and its the coolest shit lol. so fun to play too /,,/
Few of us have been pushing for Tesseract which is almost like a sibling to Periphery. Acle of Tess and Misha of Periph were both making their names simultaneously online before they had full bands. Periphery tends to have more slamming, where as Tesseract is more atmospheric and layers. Both bleed into each other a ton, but I gotta say mostly due to vocals and feel, I'm much more into TesseracT. Fine music all around though!
After the Leprous video, I'm so happy to find Periphery here too! :D crazy to think these guys started composing thanks to youtube. The same youtube that didn't notify me of these videos...ahem. Leprous - "The Sky is Red" (either the live version or the drum playthrough) Periphery - "Stranger Things" You won't regret! Thanks and I hope you hit that 100K soon!
Purists are stupid and annoying. Genre is just a cluster of similar sounds with influences tied back to other points or clusters. Some points in that cluster take the existing sounds and refine them, others stretch out and pull new influences. That's all it is.
Loved your reaction... Especially at the intro drop! That said...I got ads watching your video too, at the exact same times. It's all monetized. So it's not like the band thought "Man, we should put an ad right here." so don't put that on them.
So Mikee from SikTh did the spoken word part in the middle - check out SikTh! Under the Weeping Moon, I'd say personally, that's got some absolute riffs.
If you want the ultimate Periphery experience, listen to Muramasa, Ragnarok, and Masamune in that order. It's the beginning, middle, and end of their second album. Almost 9 years old now holy shit.
Nice one, another big checkbox for the prog/djent realm, good gateway band for the genre for sure! I see Tesseract are being highly requested already in the comments so I'll add to that.... Nocturne and Singularity are both great. Also, HAKEN!!!
Kind of, just not that intense or 'random' if you want to put it this way. But the new album and especially reptile is the best periphery album and one of the best tracks I think
@@yetthesunstillshines Right, there's definitely some space in between the two, but hearing Reptile definitely brought me back to the first time I heard Miss Machine
if I remember correctly their music distribution in europe is seperate from america. so we can thank the company that‘s handling the licensing in europe
"It baffles me why they put ads in the middle of music" literally got 2 ads when you said that. Found it funny still🤣 Sick reaction man loved this song since it came out, I reacted the same way to those pinch harmonics👌
The slides that you were referring to were actually not pick scrapes, they’re tapping licks played by the guitarists, but one is played exactly a half step below the other (I saw a live video and thought that’s what it was, if I’m wrong feel free to let me know!)
Listen to Alpha+Omega (The tracks) by Periphery, you will enjoy this GREATLY. Also react to Tesseract, phenomenal players, phenomenal drummer (my favorite currently).

Yeah man ,he should react to sikth.
The Sponce is the best
I agree, Spenser is a beast. Fucking phenomenal vocalist.
It's fun you said that on this track since it's the one that features Sikth's vocalist
DT? But where? Don’t be more fan in the comments, being objective.
Gotta do Satellites next man, Spencer smashes it
Also, that breakdown is absolutely filthy live, it's ridiculous
Second this!! 'Satalites' next!!

Periphery “Marigold” is possibly their most accessible song and it rocks. Even my young daughter loves it.

I guess Lune is even more accessible, beautiful song as well

@@BadGoof understandable. I don’t really like that song either, I just like the funny music video
@@BadGoof Probably because it's their most generic metalcore song, doesn't really have the elements that make Periphery truly great imo
"Dystopia" by TesseracT.
Heavy, melodic prog with some dirty funky bass licks

Welcome to Djent Drew
At the end of the day, music is "this sound arranged in this way is pleasing to hear". This djent section cuts to the core of it.
Pretty much every song from Periphery will send your brain in overtime. I've been listening to them for years and still I sometimes notice something i had not before when hearing them for the 500th time.

I think the ad thing is partly because it's a 16 minute song. Different rules for longer videos, no?
