If I spent my time and money honing my programming skills instead of researching and buying keyboards I would be a 10x programmer by now
You just wasted time and money, now you know the way ;)
💯
Don't need to hone, AI is already making your job obsolete.
Well-put.
@@DemocraticInternetBrigadeexcept it absolutely doesnt and wont anytime soon😂😂
For programming i like combination, Clicky for alphanumeric, modifiers like Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Space - Linear. For Esc, Caps Lock and Win Key i have dedicated clicky & extra hard Kailh Box Navy :)
Huh, that’s interesting idea to try.

When you spend a lot of time doing something with your hands, the fit and finish of the tools you use with your hands matters. While I like the feel of modern MacBook keyboards (light touch, but not too quiet) I love the feel of a mechanical keyboard and the feedback loop that gets going when you’re in a burst of typing: it’s something similar to playing music and keeping time.
Right. I was a carpenter for a bit and believe that good quality tools make a big difference.
I feel the same about MacBook's keyboard. It is good, and I'm using it now on a 2-week trip, but the mechanical keyboard is just different and feels good to type.
mechanical keyboards are just too inefficient and prone to mistypes for me
@@hazyproduct1692 can relate when I started using one, but from my POV it takes time to get used to typing on a mechanical keyboard to make yourself use less force when pressing down the keys, using the standard typing practice of placing the fingers around the “home row” (ASDFGHJKL; row).
If you’ve used mechanical keyboard for first time you’ll be typing a lot slow in beginning and making mistakes. I’d say give it time and whenever you go back to a membrane/laptop keyboard… you’ll start to understand the difference there.
Also what switches did you had when you typed on one?
@@Sainicooldude01 i've always used blue switches. i've been typing on them for about 2 years
@@hazyproduct1692 LOL. Then my assumption up there in previous comment is out then😅😅.
This is the best video I've seen on this topic.
🙌 Thank you!
@@AivarsMeijers No thank you. You are one of the few exceptional people on this platform.
Keyboards are like guitars, the master will make any sound really good.
With a usual keyboard, when it breaks, you buy a new one, adding to plastic waste.
With mechanical one you tend to buy several boards and change switches to meet your taste. No waste in this case?
You are not trowing them out, you can keep using them or gift to family members and friends.
I do not see that is waste if that is hobby. For example train models - there are plenty of people who build them. imo it is not waste of materials.
There are good non-mechanical keyboards as well. They are good as well.
imo only waste is cheap keyboards which brake and going to waste after a few months of intensive use.
@@AivarsMeijers I see your point and do partially agree. According to my small experience, mechanical boards enthusiasts tend to keep all the bits and pieces, but I know only few of them. So it's not representative.
The train models example is great)
Also I have to mention that not a single cheap membrane board has failed for me during the years. May be it's just me being lucky)
And that is the reason I don't see the 'waste'-argument convincing (=
Just my opinion.
Thank you for your reply!
Well as many on the internet has said that don't buy 61 keys keyboard for programming due to the lack of dedicated arrow keys but as a fellow programmer and a keyboard enthusiast I still bought my fist 60% keyboard by selling my previous full sized mechanical keyboard and yeah it took around 2 month to get used to the lack of arrows but now its just a second nature to me I have been using it for like a year and I have never really felt the lack of he dedicated arrow keys and the home cluster to be honest and currently 60 and 65% are my fav layout for keyboard because anything greater than that is not a requirement for me. So if you are thinking of experimenting and trying out as a programmer but not sure you can use 60%/61 keys keyboard as some of my other coder friends use 60% keyboards too.
sir will redragon k617 fizz pro be a great choice in budget for coding? I am new in keyboard world, never touched mech kbs before. I am also confused about not having dedicated keyboards.
Which size are your monitors? Which would you recommend as the best set up? I see you are combining different sizes
Thank you for your honesty 🙌🙌

The Moonlander will ruin you once you've mastered the learning curve. It's amazing. I may have already stated this on this video, but it's worth repeating.
that woodgrain wrist rest tho 0.0
Tank you for the explanation Mr Jeff Goldblum.
🤓
I like your conclusion
If you're Sebastian Vettel, you could go fast in a Jetta, and you could go fast in an AMG. Though, if you just started driving, you'd do poorly in either. But, the AMG is still a better tool for those that know how to use it.
Well said, like this!
The best programmer keyboard is a programmable keyboard. By: Phi Golden
omg LOTR Elvish keycaps :D. am also thinking about getting them, they are sitting in my cart for a month now :D. am sticking with blank keycaps for now but am thinking about getting those for the future. Dwarvish looks cool as well tho
Yep, it is nice. Didn't order it yet, mostly because hate to pay import tax for shipment from US. If I will not find something more fun in EU, then will order it.
I own both a mechanical keyboard and a Magic Keyboard. I switch between them every month or so. Both feel good to return to after using the other for an extended period.
I don't have the Magic Keyboard with the fingerprint scanner. If I had that, I think I would only use the Magic Keyboard.
Hey Aivers, thanks for the vid. great content. what happened to you MB keycaps? they looked scratched or overly used in the video. greetings from germany
Keycaps are fins. That is just combination of camera angle and light, probably some finger oil as well.
on top of that it scares everyone in the room that we are from Matrix movie team. Jokes apart my coworker told me that for God's sake don't use it as it disturbs everyone in the office. 📢. I'm happily settled with Apple's keyboard now.
There are silent mechanical keyboards as well, so that's a solvable problem ;)
Have you tried the Epomaker Shadow X? I love how it feels and it reminds me a bit of many retro computers I knew growing up.
Nope, but I have RT100 which is very old school looking as well. Like it.
practical person
i have royal kludge rk68 is better than dragon fizz k617?
Hi Aivars! I’m thinking between the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and a mechanical keyboard. Any advice?
That is subjective choice. I have touch ID next to me on laptop, so that is not problem for me to go with mechanical keyboard, idk about you.
The argument, that you buy a new keyboard, when your old ones dies and add waste, is invalid. Its true that mechanical keyboards have a longer lifetime, but in reality it doesn't matter. I have never experienced a key not working anymore and i am a programmer and gamer for about 15 years. I dont abuse my keyboards. I had the pleasure of work with different keyboards and came to the conclusion that the most important differences between keyboards are feeling/build quality, sound, layout and light(if you are using the keyboard at night as well).
That's ok to have different experiences.
I broken and repaired many game controllers and a few key switches. I loaded my first games from magnetic tape and played on monochromic TV so I have some experience as well :)
Sure, most of the users will just buy new keyboard and repairability is not the main argument in this video.
great video thanks
If its all about the sound cant u just write some code to play that very sound on key click
funny, but there are apps that plays sound while you are typing. Sure it is about tactile feeling as well, not only about the sound
Do you use your laptop keyboard much? If so, do you find it annoying going from the laptop keyboard to the mechanical keyboard and vise versa?
I use a laptop's keyboard when working from a coffee shop or on the couch. I'm fine with a built-in keyboard, even prefer a mechanical one.
I even planning to travel without an external keyboard for the next few weeks, but could take it mostly for iPad.
what is the name of the one with the red wheel on it at 0:13.
Epomaker TH66
Since you can move around the keys, is it possible to convert a QWERTY to AZERTY with maybe a in-house software? Does iQuinix offer that possibility?
Yes, all major operating systems offer the ability to change layouts. Additionally you can use software to customize other keys. Autohotkey (windows), keyboard maestro (Mac), and karabiner elements (Mac and windows?) are good choices.
Depending on the keyboard you buy/build, you may be able to custom flash firmware using QMK. This allows for you to change layouts at the keyboard-level, that way the layout remains the same regardless of whose computer you’re using it with.
Iqunix have built in Mac/Win Lay-out switching but agree with already added comment, you can switch layouts using OS or 3rd party apps
In windows only you need add your new language in keyboard options and you can alternate with WIN+Espace keys
Can i have 1 of your keyboard

Yep, that looks interesting as well.

@@branpod Congratulations! Please make a video.
My best mechanical keyboard is of low profile and very very quiet sound. I hate noisy keyboard.
I’m planing to try MX mechanics some day later. That could be great low profile keyboard for traveling.
Hi man, one question. How do you deal with no having a numpad to type special characters (ASCII code)? I want to buy a TKL keyboard but I don't know how I am going to be able to write some special characters that I often need
I do not see myself using numpad often. I rarely enter numbers, so top row of them is enough for me
This was exactly my concern about my 1st mechanical keyboard, not being able to use a numpad with a low budget is very painful
@@elekrono Yeah, in my case I'm a programmer, but I live in Guatemala, so I use a spanish layout. Most of the symbols that programmers use come from the english layout, so I think they don't need to use numpad. At the end, I bought a normal mechanical keyboard with numpad and I don't regret ^^ (Redragon K502)
@@AivarsMeijersthanks for the answer, UA-cam didn't send the notification.
@@KeMusArt I dont usr numpad often, but it was very useful with coding minecraft plugins since you can type certain characters with no effort, and those characters change colors of texts etc.
Typing experience helps you to be productive and motivate to code more.
Mechanical keyboards ❤
if you had to choose one keyboard for programming for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
built-in MBP keyboard. It is good enough and always with me. Really, if I had to chose external or MB keyboard for ever, I would stick with MB
whats best interms of layouts tho? cause I know there are a lot of short cuts in these programs and not sure if having an
F row is important or not? i want a 65% layout but if it makes coding faster with a 75 or 80 % keyboard its pointless to own a 65%
I think that TKL is safe bet. Most of the programmers do not need numpad and by dropping it you get mouse closer to the keyboard and it is more comfortable to use.
F row for me is not must have, but I like to have dedicated tilda key, if you are removing F row, ESC key moving down and you have to use modifiers to access "~
So, my personal preference is 75-80% keyboards.
65% looks nice, but I don't see strong practical reason to get one.
With a usual keyboard, when it breaks, you buy a new one, adding to plastic waste.
With mechanical one you tend to buy several boards and change switches to meet your taste. No waste in this case?
when your button on mechanical keyboard you need just to buy new keycap and/or switch and replace it (ofc if your keyboard supports hot-swap). that's all, you don't need to buy new one or do highly-price repaire which might be more expencive than usual keyboard, right? And of course if you can't live without breaking your keyboard, idk)) why you need to use keyboard so
спасибо за видео, полезно
I use TVS Gold pro keyboard , its a popular indian keyboard and has Kailh Box whites
there were models eariler which had cherry mx blues but now they're replaced with Kailh Long Hua Blues
I heard that Kailh switches are good but didn't tried them yet

my k380 is very upset
I have it as well for many years. Great keyboard.
I'm currently trying to build a mechanical keyboard that looks like a modern IBM Model M Keyboard. I bought retro style white and beige keycap recently and they look similar to the IBM KB. I can't wait to finish building it because I have so many projects planned to create while using it.
