    Been doing this for years with my Big Shot Plus. An A4 size cutting mat from The Works fits perfectly - no need to cut it to size.

    I've been doing this for years and haven't had to replace the plates yet. Works like a dream and cuts are always perfect.

      But they still warp.
      Then other thing u can use is a vinyl over the plate so u don’t get them cut into and those that are already marked up won’t get transferred onto your paper

    Tape it on with clear packing tape . Tape all four sides, the taped does not have to go all the way down the sides, maybe 3/4 of the way. Then flip your plates each time you use it and it will prevent warping and hold the green plate in place. Idea of Jennifer McGuire.

    I, too, was getting frustrated with marred and warped “cutting plates” in my Sizzix BigShot, UNTIL … Ta-DA!! … I found a video here on y.t. by SHARON LUSKA. Her “fix” was to use THICK VINYL SHEETS BETWEEN the 2 cutting plates. Do understand that these sheets are “sacrificial” and need to be replaced when they become too cut up, HOWEVER, I’ve been using the following “sandwich” in my machine for nearly 2 years, and my plates are not the least bit warped and no more marred than when I started using this system. My layers are usually (some dies vary in thickness and of course embossing folders are their own animal!): 2 Dollar Tree Cutting Mats from the kitchen section; my Salmon-colored “B” Shim; 1 Regular Sizzix Cutting Plate; 1 layer of THICK VINYL SHEETING (I buy the thicker of the two versions sold by JoAnn’s; sorry … I’ve never taken notice if they label the mm. thickness of the product 🫣); my cardstock, which is usually 65# or 80#, and the die I’ve chosen (I do cutting side down because I can better see where I’m positioning it); a 2nd THICK VINYL SHEET tops this; and Lastly, is the 2nd Cutting Plate. What makes this work, in my opinion, is that the VINYL A L L O W S the “bite” of the die to go THROUGH the cardstock and a bit into the vinyl (which is why it’ll occasionally need to be replaced, but it’s a lot cheaper than cutting plates!). The premise of the use of the vinyl is much like using the DollarTree green cutting mats, but the vinyl stays flat, whereas the green mats fairly shortly started to become majorly warped and a nightmare to cut into, to say nothing of the fact that they then caused my cardstock to come out warped! The other benefit of this vinyl sheet “sandwich” is that it has saved greatly on the wear and tear on both my machine AND MY JOINTS!! SO … if you try this, CHECK your cut before adding more shims! The ease of cutting came as a major surprise to me! Be well, All!

      When my plates get really warped I keep them stored in my machine after use -& that helps bends the warped area in-be-tween use ..

    • @kkrolf2782
      @kkrolf2782 6 місяців тому +1

      @@lorrainedurgee1761 That probably would work well for the plates, but I’d be concerned that that would cause one or more flat places on the rollers within the machine. Granted the rollers are metal, but we’ve no way of knowing how durable they may be.

That will most likely eliminate the need for a metal shim for the thinner dies as well. Happy crafting!! ♥️🙏🏼🎨🖌️
