I’ve recently found a similar video. A lady heating her plates in a tray in the sink with boiling water for 20 mins. Soaking. She weighted it down with more boiling water to keep the heat going. It worked. Her husband (engineer, scientist ) said please don’t do it in the over at higher temperatures because Perspex plastic will release toxic fumes! Maybe not at 170 degrees C, I don’t know, but listen, it could. Also listen because it works at only boiling point, 100deg C, so it’s not necessary to heat up your whole oven, just boil some water. Getting the plates wet also releases all the bits into the water, as if by magic! As the plastic relaxes. She didn’t wrap them in foil either.
I will try that, thanks I think we should all get together N inform the company they NEED to improve the cutting plates this is ridiculous each time we have to either try and straighten it out ourselves from boiling water or put it in the oven or just buying new ones. This is so unacceptable. What do U think.
I am new to this. Got my big shot foldaway for Christmas & already it’s warped. I tried using a blow dryer which didn’t help. I wonder if this is partly why it’s being discontinued. @@hp77
I haven’t used any directions on straightening my plates, I haven’t found that need to except for one set, and I already had extra ones so I guess in the future I’ll be using directions to straighten them! The UA-cam creator’s name that the lady below mentioned is Jennifer McGuire. If you search warped plates in her channel you’ll find her video. An interesting tidbit is her husband was on the team that invented Press and Seal! Thanks to Angela for letting us know how she straightens her plates!
This is brilliant! One thing that I also do to prolong the life of the plates is I always put a piece of that super thick, hard craft paper between the cutting part of the die and the plate. Not only does it significantly reduce where on the cutting plate, but then whatever paper I am actually cutting doesn’t end up getting embossed with scratches from the cutting plate.
I saw another video where they used self healing mat instead of the cutting plate, just cut it the right size. I tried that and it works perfectly! Never have to buy new plates again, huge money saving on that!
I don't know how I missed this one, Angela, but I'm glad I found it! I once broke a plate in half while using it -- it was very bent (I have the normal-sized Bit Shot). So I had to buy a new set. But now, hopefully, I won't have to do that again! I have one very bent plate now, so I'm off to beat it into submission ... but I will use your method instead! (I should've known you'd have a solution to this problem!) Hugs from Ireland!

I got my new sizzix hot shot electric just today and I have already warped it and scratched it. I warped it I think when I used the 3d embossing folder with the incorrect plates. I was sick over this. I will try your idea but my husband recommends I use my heat press. Has anyone done that?😊
I have not seen this before and I have been die-cutting for about 15 years. I can't wait to try this! I have thrown away several plates over the years, now feeling sad about that. Thank you!!!
TFS Angela. I've been using my heat gun to flatten mine. It takes FOREVER because I have several die cutters and lots of plates. I was wondering about using the oven! So there you go! I CAN use the oven and do a couple at a time. Thank you so much!
Hi Angela, Thanks for the great tip. I did buy new ones before I saw you video but will now try this with the old ones as I haven't yet thrown them !!!!
Angela, from your 83 year old viewer in Northern California - you never disappoint. These practical tips are so VERY helpful. Since I'm a newbie I still watch earlier tutorials because they are so important, basics like gluing for journal parts and which glue to use. I would like to hear what started you in Journaling, since you are accomplished in other of the "home arts", and I think others will also. Even though my printer went kaput I found a place to print out the purple passion series 💜👌. Are you still pleased with your printer listed on Amazon? I am considering what to buy. Keep presenting your envelope ideas. No matter how many, because they're delightful. Wish I had a DVD with all the ones so far. Have a great week.
Dear Janice, so pleased to hear that you are still enjoying all the tutorials. So lovely to hear that. I am just delighted to hear that you find them useful. I will try to remember to share some more of my crafting histories just for you. On the printer front, I am very happy with my HP Envy. I have had two in 8 years. Hi Angela, re your HP envy photo printer, is this suitable for printing digitals rather than photos? And how do you find the cartridges - someone who reviewed the printer mentioned 4 months of instant ink included. Best wishes and thank you for your delightful videos. 👍🇦🇺
Thank you Angela. I usually submerge the plate in a bath of hot water, in the oven, with another container filled with water on top, to achieve much the same result. I think your method may generate more direct heat so will give it a go.
Firstly, you're nails are beautiful. Thank you so very much for the tip on the plates. I have the smaller version of the big shot, I don't see why it would not work. I will need to buy more foil and then give it a go. I looked on Amazon £11.99/$16.51 for new plates. Or for the A4 it is £19.99 /$27.52 Which means I can buy more card and some embossing powders. My husband works in glass and they have plexie glass and I was going to see if they could cut me some providing I can get the exact thickness. Its worth a shot. You are truly amazing with your great Ideas.
Hi Angela, first let me say that this is a great tutorial for flattening plates. Mine were so bad, I tried it this morning. I have the Tim Holtz Vagabond machine and it has the gray Smokey plates. I did everything exactly as you said. Unfortunately the plates kind of melted and bubbled. I have to throw them away. I guess I’m wondering if my oven was too hot, but the temperature gauge I have in the oven said 350 degrees. Maybe it was just the gray plate and not the clear ones. I don’t know 🤷♀️. I guess I just want to tell anyone who tries this to be cautious if you have the gray plates. Maybe they are a different material than the cleat ones? Anyway, I was so super excited to try this as my plates were SO badly warped. I did buy a new set some time ago, but resisted opening them and using them because the other ones still worked. But I have a new set and they are clear. So I’ll give it another try when these get warped. 😉. Have a great day Angela.
I am so sorry to hear about your plates Linda. I am not sure what the Vaggabond plates are made of, so perhaps it is a different material completely. I am so glad that you have your new plates to go ahead with. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me. Have a great day. Hugs and smiles 🌸🦋💗🌷🤗
Please don’t be sorry, it’s not your fault. I was hoping to get some feedback from others that maybe tried it with the gray Smokey plates to see what their results were. I’m thinking that maybe the material that they are made with is different than the clear ones.
When you say you take them upstairs and run them through the big shot, do you just run them through once and let cool away from the big shot and you also refer to a measurement and I can’t tell what you mean. I have a very warped plate and would like to try this
Thanks. I bought a new set. They warped in one time. So the older ones must be way better anyways. Thanks again for sharing. I'm going to try this for sure. I usually just keep them snug in the big shot. That helps but takes days. Lol

Lol
You are welcome, Bette-Ann. So glad you found this worthwhile. Give it a go. Hugs and smiles 🌸☺️💗🦋
Thank you so much will try
Well done
