I'm glad they haven't changed much because from my experience the 7s have been superb. My latest 7s have 600 miles and what I really like is the even wear on the soles which shows me I'm walking correctly, I think the flared sole helps with this. I was skeptical at first but definitely converted
I have well over 1000km on the lone peak 6 and I love them. These look pretty much the same, which is a good thing! I hope they never change the stats on the lone peaks because for me the lone peak are the best outdoor shoe ever made. Light weight, durable, neutral/ flat foodbed, breathable, keep dust out pretty well(great upper), good cushioning, good trail pattern, ... just perfect for me I will keep buying these as long as they stay somewhat the same. I use them for all of my runs as well as all of my hikes, great product!
Great for walking the Camino Norte and Primativo. Just finished and no hint of blisters using Merino socks . Intermittent tarmac roads wore the sole a fair bit though.
100% agree with everything you said. I've had a lot of gripes about Altra over the years, but the Lone Peak has been their one constant. I also agree about it being a great casual shoe and vacation shoe. I wore those at Disney World over multiple days and they were perfect. And I've run 50k's in them. Very versatile.
Honestly, we don't know quite yet. It being a new shoe we do not have the feedback or people who have racked up those miles in where it has become an issue yet.
100% the Lone Peak has been getting narrower IMO. I use to wear LPs all the time, the 5 being my favorite. Didn't try the 6. Tried on the 7 and it was noticeably tighter than the 5
We have also noticed that the Lone Peak's Original Fit toebox has been narrower. Especially when compared to the Via Olympus and Torin. They did make the 8 a little bit wider, but not as much as we had hoped.
I have the 7's. I like them and they are still going strong. The 8's don't really look like there have been any changes. But I'm not really looking for any changes. Maybe a bit better drainage and drying when they get wet would be good.
Currently have the 7s and would like to see the full review on the 8 wide version. Explain to me why they(7's) fit like a standard fit but say they are original? I have put them on with a thinner insole and a thinner sock to make them fit more comfortably and that should not be the case. I know it's not just me but maybe a measurement comparison of previous iterations up to current would be helpful in your upcoming review😊
My LP4s were my favorite iteration, until the 6 came. Those were amazing. 7s I had to return as they didn’t fit well anymore. I’m hoping the 8s will be better.
Update: I have the 8s and indeed, they are better and improved from the 7s and they actually feel like my 6s but a little more rigid, which I actually welcome. Based on the feeling I think it’ll be a little more durable too. Well done Altra!
@@Calisthenics_Enjoyerjust as good as the 4 but more durable! Just bought another LP8 as the previous one lasted 8 mos! Usually they only last 4 mos tops
It's funny when people are wearing trail running shoes during rocky hikes where hard trekking boots are supposed to be used. They also put on heavy backpacks. And THEN after such a multiple days hike they make videos about Altra's durability problems )
Got your Black Friday deal on the line peak 7 for $99! My only regret is not getting two. Love your reviews and will get these when my 7s need to be replaced.
Thanks for supporting our store! We now have the Lone Peak 7 back down to $99.95. If you are interested in grabbing another pair, feel free to check it out on our website.
I do like the new colors better! Every year as a hiker I try to replace lone peaks with something else that I think is better. By summer I’m back in the old trusty lone peaks griping about how fast the tread wears out. Enjoy your reviews and I’m going to go ahead and pre order a pair today. I am highly anticipating the timp 5s. Any release dates on those yet.
I bought a LP 6 a while ago and, while they are wide in the toe box, they are also too narrow in the midfoot. I've only done a few runs in them, in the winter, on snow-covered roads and the traction was average. It was my first attempt to an Altra, because of my wide feet, but I wasn't convinced. Maybe I'll give the LP another try when decide to go with a Vibram outsole. For now, I'm only wearing the LP-s for walking.
I am a thru hiker and love my lone peaks. The problem is they just wear out way too fast😢 I am lucky to get 300 plus miles on mine. Do you trail runners have the same issues with my favourite shoe the lone peak?
A lot of the runners who get the Lone Peak 7 from us are usually able to get 300 miles out of their pair. It all comes down to different factors, such as how often you run/hike, the terrain you're hiking on, and the intensity of your run/hike. Someone going out daily on a technical trail will get a much shorter lifespan in their shoes than someone who is only out once weekly on a path in the woods. That being said, we haven't had too many issues of people not getting 300 miles out of their shoes.
I am in a pair of lone Peak 7s at the moment, my issue is the tongue is slipping laterally, do you think I'll have a better experience with the lone Peak 8s?
Just recieved a pair of Timp 5s but I find them to lack volume at the top of my foot, even without insoles. Will the LP 8s have more volume around the bottom of the laces?
i have the same problem!! i do the workaround with not lacing the lowest part, but it's not great. there needs to be something roomy for those of us with feet that have a lot of height X)
Watching this while wearing my black LP5's 😀. Steve is spot on when he says these are so comfortable they are a 'wear-everywhere' shoe. LP8's look interesting. I skipped the 7 as I'm not doing trails as often, but LP is my go to for trails as I love the cushion while still being able to feel the trail under foot.
Thanks for watching! The Lone Peak is one of our most popular trail/road hybrid shoes. The 8 is a nice improvement over previous generations. If you give them a try, let us know!
great stuff.., I do see ppl wear this around town, in a non rail setting .. they may be on vacay, and getting utility out of the shoes, while freeing up luggage space
The height of the big toe reduced between the 6 and 7. It looks like they've redesigned the front of the shoe around the big toe between the 7 and 8 by pulling back on the plastic front. Do you find the big toe height on the 8 more like the 6 or 7?
Retailers receive them weeks before they go on sale. What surprises me more is that he is allowed to upload a review allready. Normally there is a set date after wich all the reviews are allowed to be released.
Very surprised that you haven't heard more complaints about the LP's maxtrac outsole. I read so many comments about the durability of the LP's outsole. For me, it consistently wears down to minimal traction well under 100 miles on the trail, to the point I know I'm going to start slipping and so I need to be even more mindful of my foot placement and where I'm likely to break traction. I have 4 pairs of LP 6's with rounded down traction lugs from the past two years of backpacking as evidence. Re: wide versions, I had the LP6 in wide and loved them, but I couldn't wear the LP7 it was loose feeling in some ways, but also not wide enough in the toe box.
Terrain and body weight play big roles in wear rate differences between different runners. That said, I haven’t had luck with any brands soles lasting long with my weight and terrain.
matus.lasan did long-distance hikes in different versions of altra, I think 6 or 7 lasted longer than previous, about 800 miles + if I remember correctly
@@TheMirrorVisionI had the provision 4 I think for road running and I ran well over 500 k and there is almost no difference. Shoes are holding up like I’ve never used them though they are all muddy
I have LP5SE and 6 and love them both for anything up to 100k. This model looks great and I’m glad the colours are more matching (compare to the 7 IMHO). But did you say Altra have introduced some “drop” in their line? That’s like a vegetarian cafe introducing bacon 😱😮 What were they thinking, leave the drops to other brands and stick to your roots Altra
Are those the only colors they are coming in? Do all colors come in wide? What is the release date? What is the conversion from men's to women's because I tried 1.5 size lower, both wide and they weren't wide enough in the toe box. Really anxious to see my options in the 8.
The new Timp 5 will be released on February 1st. The Timp 5 has an updated EGO Max midsole giving it more cushion compared to the 4. It is also equipped with a Vibram outsole providing superior grip over the MaxTrac rubber. The Timp 5 weighs in at 8.6 oz / 243 g on the women's side and 9.8 oz / 277 g on the men's making it lighter than the older Timp 4. All in all, the TImp 5 is one of the most anticipated shoes from Altra this season. It is definitely one we are looking forward to.
Question, the rumor is the superior might be gone is that true I guess if you can’t say I’ll reply back I can’t say or I guess ignore it but that people are talking about because I guess the superior never showed up at the shoe show and ultras full line of Heather Trail shoes didalso heard Escalante racer is going away just if it is going away I buy a pair or two
Good question. The Superior will not be going away. The most recent Superior 6 is their most updated version, which was released earlier this year. No plans in the future to phase out the model to my knowledge.
My Lone Peak 6's have been great, holding up well after nearly a year. My Torin's have been absolute garbage. Started falling apart after one month. I can't believe they are made by the same company.
It baffles me how Altra continues to be all over the place with sizing. The last 3 models I ordered in my usual size were 1. too short (Outroad 2) 2. just fine (Torin 7) and 3. significantly too long (Lone Peak 8). 🙄
How wide are these in the midfoot? (I'd have to go wide anyway but...shape matters.) And are they flat inside? A lot of shoes seem to have a forced rise in the midfoot at the arch even when they are sold as zero drop. Idk if this is just how they are constructed or what. That and cupped soles, yuck.
Narrow shoe. Your foot is spilling over the midsole at 1:20. And there isn't even your full weight on the foot. When you run your foot expands even further. No place to got, for the foot.
I don’t mind raving reviews for such excellent products as the LPs that quite obviously have garnered an unparalleled following among trail runners. Unfortunately I stopped watching after the comments on the outsole “never encountering any issues even in muddy conditions”. I love my LPs and will certainly buy other pairs in the future, but the outsole is absolutely terrible as soon as the ground gets a little wet, causing me to only wear them in the dry months. I once almost gave up completely on a run after experiencing what could only be compared to artistic ice skating on some muddy trails. That has been the one obvious weakness of the LPs for years and Altra just need to accept that their rubber just does not compare to Vibram…
Vibram does not make a wide sole which is why Altra thankfully hasn't switched. "Wide" shoes with Vibram soles just have extra material sewn on the upper which is not good. For example New Balance shoes (all I have tried) use the exact same sole for all width of shoe, measure them and see. I wish Vibram would make a wide sole but using the same sole mold for everything saves cost.
