Another video on my favorite running shoes from Altra (Altra didn't pay me or something, I mean everything I promote on this channel).
N1. Altra Lone Peaks (cause i love trails ;))
N2. Altra Escalante Racer (the most minimal road running shoe on the Altra Line Up)
N3. Altra Olympus 5 (cause of sturdiness and grip)
N4. Altra Torin (Love them but not the biggest fan of long runs on road)
N5. Altra Via Olympus (too maximal in my opinion...)
Why do I love Altras so much?
I love the toe freedom you get with the Altras, and the absence of support and tech in the shoes, as they tend to be more minimal then modern running shoe giants.
I have wide feet, and find it important not to be restrained, I hate going on a long run and feeling my feet to be cramped in. Additionally, I feel more stability while I run, because the shoes have less cushion (especially the Escalante and lone peak), and less stabilising tech in them. I know it sounds a bit counterintuitive, but for me the more you feel the ground, the better you can control it and feel stable.
Don't get me wrong, I do have a few new balance, and Hokas lying around, but i only use them for recovery runs.
This is actually one of the reasons I love Altra running shoes so much, if you train in more minimal shoes, like the escalante, lone peaks and torin, and occasionally run in something like the Novablasts, hoka Clifton or other, it feels super super comfy. In this sense, being uncomfortable gives you the luxury of feeling the comfort when you want to feel it, rather than having it all the time and consequently forgetting about it.

Escalante 3 were my first pair of shoes from Altra. I love them so much and got them after being in barefoot shoes for over a year

    Thanks for the video!
Been stuck at the Olympus 4 & 5 for years, maybe it's time to try the Lone Peaks 🤔
Love your content, Rapha. Please keep it up! 👍❤

Thanks for the video. I’m running mostly in Topos and looking for an Altra at the moment. I think the Rivera 4 is interesting. How does it fit in the line?

Great video! I started in Torin 7s but the heels are wicked for me. I've been in the Olympus 2s for 2 mo and already going up half a size. If the torin isn't a great fit for me would it be safe to rule out the escalante?

The Outroad runs short and being the slim fit, it is extremely snug. The Provision 6 and the Torin 6 for me fit almost the same as the Olympus 5 and the Via Olympus. The Provision 7 is almost as snug as the Outroad.🦋👣

Will there be any difference if I buy the women's model according to the actual size of the men's model? For example, the men's US10.5 corresponds to the women's US12. I see that the inner length is the same. Can I choose this way?

The womens model, even though the lengths are comparable will fit a little narrower in Altra shoes. If you need a wider fit, it is completely normal to go for mens sizing. I know a lot of people that do that!

@@barefootrunreview Thank you, that's great. I have already bought it and it is no different from my men’s model! Because they are all wide-last versions, there should be no need to open two sets of molds. I guessed it right hahaha

Hi, i ve been using xero shoes for the last few months. I cant use normal shoes any more they hurt me so hard. I was looking for an alternative to xero with more cusion. Ive been working and i can run with the xeros about 3-4 km without problems. But i would like somthing with more protection so i can run 10km or so. Im thinking about a pair of lone peaks, any suggestion? I have a wide feet. Nice video, thank you

I have been wearing Xero for about 1 year+ due to IT band problem. I moved over from cushioned shoes to Escalante Racer for running. I ran a 5k (basically my limit at the time) for the first time and never had a problem, even if I slowley ramped up my running due to the IT-band problem. I now run with Escalante Racer without the insole.
I would say that Escalante Racer is somewhere between barefoot and a "normally cushioned " shoe.
So, if you could run with Xeroes for 3-4km , Escalante racer should be no problem if you take it easy the first few runs, and Lone Peaks be even less of a problem, I would say. Have Lone peaks, but had some issues with size. I prefer to run without insole, but Lone Peak (5 I think) had some seam that was giving me blisters, so I needed to put the insole back in and then they were slightly too small.
      Good luck!

I'd second the Escalante racer. But there are some others that could be interesting. The Bahe Revive is a 10mm wide toe box shoe which is somewhere between Altras and Xero shoes. Also the Lems primal, even though it's not a true performance shoe, it contains some cushion but with amazing Flexibility.
Let me know if you want any more info, I've tried a lot of minimal shoes.

what shoe would you recommend for an 85 kg (fit) guy?
could you tell me one for easy runs and one for long runs?

Honestly the Torin can do it all. If I could only have one road shoe, it would the Torin

I think its a great first altra shoe for a lot of people. It does against the altra phisolophy which i am not very happy about, but we can see witht he shoes thy are bringing out that they want to speak to a wider audience... little bit dissapointing but still great shoes i think
