Killzone's biggest flaw was that it wasn't Halo. World building was superb, level design was great and shooting felt good. The talent was already here, Sony just had to let them work on a project that could showcase it instead of forcing them down the road of making good FPS that aren't Halo. Horizon is what happens when a publisher lets a studio make the game they want instead of forcing them down a path. It's something EA could learn from actually.
I'd say it's probably because Sony stopped trying to meddle with the content of the game, they seem to have a lot more freedom than before and that probably helps from a creative standpoint.
These are expansions. There supposed to add content to the game. Lots more content then the normal DLC(which should be free because they just add armour and small stuff)
Thanks for all you folks patrons, subscribers, followers. Appreciate it. Remember to use the Amazon Affiliate link in the description if you can. Helps ACG, costs you nothing. Also the 12 Cool Little Details about Horizon Zero Dawn Frozen Wilds video is up ua-cam.com/video/3cy1Gop174w/v-deo.html Summary Excellent DLC that fits into the normal game and reworks more systems than we have seen in the past. 15-25 hours of gameplay. If you want to gather all the upgrades, side quests, weapons and clear the entire area is going to be a long time
im hoping the seqeul comes to ps4, rather then ps5. we dont needa new generation on consoles for a many, many years now.. maybe 4 to 6 years from now at earliest
And Uncharted Lost Legacy and Until Dawn. Bloodborne is still number 1 for me though. I also recommend The Order. Amazing graphics and setting, and fun gunplay despite all the hate.
I suggest turning off all ui elements after getting accustomed with the mechanics of the game firstly because the game is really beautiful and also it makes the game a lot more immersive and reacting to machines and people by observing their behavior and animations and listening their sounds can be so engaging. In the original game I played most of my time with all ui elements turned alongside with dynamic ui elements (like compass and health bar that can't be completely turned off) that appear when you touch the touchpad which is really convenient. It works really well.
I was on the same page until I dug into Super Mario Odyssey. I beat the game a few days ago and I'm still hooked on finding more stars/uncovering more secrets.
Its extremely sad that GuerillaGames' first attempt at an RPG has better conversation dynamics than Biowares recent dumpster fire. I'm still so butthurt
grace calis Bioware is in it for the money...cookie cutter game after cookie cutter game. They haven't been the same since Baldurs Gate and probably should step back and reboot like Ubisoft did with Origins.
people are already talking about the ps5 but I won't even buy one until 2025. Still so many games on the ps4 I don't own yet and so many I own that I haven't beaten yet!
this was one of THE BEST GAMES I HAVE EVER PLAYED ! Seriously, I have played a lot of games and this game was especially spectacular on PS4... it pushed it to the max. The framerate is SOOOO SMOOTH, you would not even notice it is actually 30. not 60....but it FEELS 60.
Definitely getting this DLC, but I'm not sure whether to play it first on normal difficulty from my completed game file, or tackle it while doing the NG+ ultra hard run through the main story. If the DLC is already fairly difficult, playing it on ultra hard will probably make the new story and areas less fun to explore.
Yeah I read the NG+ has better "Adept" weapons too, which will obviously be helpful for the DLC if it's difficult, but I will need to grind a bit for shards and parts because they are really expensive. Thanks for the review!
well once you get into the higher levels like 45-50 then its going to be somewhat easier just because. But the new way the enemies do things can throw anyone into a bit of an issue if they don't pay attention
Narniak69 play it on very hard, go through the game and then once you finish you'll be confident on your hunting skills, play the game+ on ultra hard, that's what I did, no machine can stand in my path, I've learned to take them all down with fewer hits.
you really have become the only game reviewer I trust anymore Karak, I really appreciate the depth you go into and the no-nonsense rating scale. keep up the great work!
Why pre-order a dlc or any game for that matter? Pre-ordering hurts the gaming industry. You're paying for something that hasn't released yet, so the people making the game have less incentive to make a good product since they already have your money.
inputfunny Personally, I only pre-order games I trust in and strongly believe I will enjoy. Even then I only pre-order to get a discount. This DLC for example was $15 instead of $20 if you pre-ordered it and are a PS Plus member.
So weird how i go to ACG and Gameranx for my games reviews! I buy games based on their say so. Especially ACG, This channel is world class. I watch reviews on games i will never normally consider buying just because Karak draws you in and compels you to watch.
As always, your descriptions are dashed apt and almost poetic at times. :) The fact you mention Witcher... *sigh. This is one DLC that will bring me much joy and I shall revel in forcing poor Aloy through heavy snow drifts while I enjoy the real world sunshine. I hope someone gets you a quilt. :D
Good review. Quick question: I have two playthroughs - normal & ng+ ultra hard. If it's as tough as you say it is, do you think a blind playthrough on the latter would be too much or is it the same difficulty as the endgame?
I love the world and the game when I finished it the first time. However, I suck at it for some reason. Maybe I am confused about upgrading the weapons. The final boss made me rage so bad lolx, I think I died like 20 times? I never had problems playing dark souls or bloodborne, but this game kicks my ass. But I still love this game. Maybe I would get the DLC to remember the great times.
Are you serious? I thought it was waaaaay to easy (not exaggerating) and am no good ad soul games (Nioh on the other hand... yeah!). What was it, that made it so difficult for you to master?
danielcwc Seriously? I found this game to be relatively easy, at least once you know how to dodge attacks and use some potions (especially frost resist). Just buy some higher level weapons in Meridian ( and make sure you aren't using hunting arrows on machines) and experiment. Adding high percentage modifications helps a lot too.
danielcwc Tearblast arrows are your friend. Complete the lodge challanges for the best gear in the game. Know which enemies drop heavy weapons and how to get them off. I know what you mean about feeling like you're underpreforming. Its just a game that really demands that you use everything it gives you in order to have a comfortable time.
Just a little more advice, do the tutorials on the quest tab. They encourage you to see what new weapons are good for. Buy as many weapons as you can and do their tutorials, experimenting with new weapons will help you find winning strategies. Among my personal favorites are tearblast arrows, fire arrows, and the ropecaster.
Its very cool how her feet gradually sinks deeper into the snow on each step! This is the biggest improvement I have seen to walking/running in a long time. And when r we going to get some realistic footsteps??? Stay classy.
Great video and it's good to hear the dlc is well done. Horizon is definitely my game of the year and is one of my favorites in a long time so I'll be picking it up for sure. Just wondering how many new armors and weapons should I expect, is it like 3 or more like 7. Keep up the good work, I trust u and Matty most for reviews.
Looks awesome, I still haven't played the base game but I'm excited to get to it hopefully early to mid 2018. I was really focused on playing VR content when this came out so I missed it. Playing AC Origins now and Battlefront II is lined up next. It's tough to get to just the games I really want to play these days. There are so many more that I'd love to play as well but there's no time.
i only just finished the main game today (only got it a short time ago because i was waiting fora price drop) and already want more.. i think i might pick this up.. the first game was the best game of 2017 so i can't wait to try the dlc... i hope guerrilla games eventually does a sequel
So happy to hear this DLC is a worthy addition. This game is without a doubt game of the year, but maybe more than that for me. I sure hope it wins this year. It's going to be a tough year strangely with so many other great games out.
Anytime a new game or DLC I'm unsure about comes out, "let me see what my boy Karak says", is the first thing that pops in my mind when searching for reviews.
Guerrilla has been my favorite dev since picking up a PS3 in 2013 and playing through Killzone 2. Before HZD they were highly underrated and I am happy to see they are getting the praise they deserve.
Just watching the gameplay gave me the chilling feeling of walking through the woods in the snow when it’s -10 degrees, everything just looks really crisp and really effin cold.
The thing about a review is that its an opinion, over the years i found at times I would agree with a review from IGN, Gamespot, GameTrailers (RIP) etc. and then times i would completely disagree with them. In that same vein i found review sites would often completely disagree with and contradict eachother on key aspects of a game and so i found it tough to take their opinions seriously with so many contradictory opinions. Karak is the first guy i have come across where i unanimously agree with his assessment of games and so i not only give a shit about, but trust his opinion. Keep doing what youre doing man you kill it every time.
goddamn this year was awsome: HZD, AC Origins, Zelda, Mario, Wolfenstein and UC: Lost Legacy. All great games! Though GOTY for me is either HZD or Wolfenstein
Probably the best video games reviewer around. I also like that you suggest people subscribe or even thumbs down the video if they didn't like it. Makes a nice change from the usual desperation for likes and subscribers on UA-cam.
Crazy....one of the reasons why I played the first one was because I loved how you reviewed it and convinced me to get it as I was on the fence, and then I subscribed to you. Unfortunately I've sold the game as I needed the cash but man it's good to know this game has got even better even a few months later, definitely one of the best games this year, even though I keep forgetting it came out this year. Love the content dude!
Got thinking about something else entirely: it's a shame your channel didn't exist back when Metro: 2033 and Metro: Last Light came out. Two of my personal absolute favorites.
I'm on my second New Game+ on ultra hard again. should I finish the main quest then the frozen wilds? I heard there's extra content, as in lines of dialogue and Aloys perspective when you finish the main quest first. thanks!!!
If they ever make a sequel, I think it would be cool to have a "virus" arrow where you basically have a USB stick attached to the tip of an arrow. When you equip it, you will see several highlighted points, indicating data ports with the diameter of a penny. If you hit the point, instant take down. But it has no damage anywhere else. Hard to find and craft but rewarding if shot accurately.
So, it sounds like Frozen Wilds is ideal to play on a New Game Plus, since despite being in the middle-to-late game section of the story, it's tougher than what anyone would expect... so being at near peak level would be a good idea. At the very least, Frozen Wilds is an excuse for a NG+, which is fine since plenty of games that have NG+ hold no point to it, like Dragon's Dogma.
I bought horizon months ago. Played it a bit, but got distracted by bf1. Picked it up again a week ago and restasryed. Proceeded to dump 27.8 hours into it and loved every second. Bout to start end game at lvl 35
So I just started a new game plus on ultra hard and I'm at level 44. Should/Can I play the frozen wilds in this new game plus or should I go back to my original save where I've finished the main campaign?
ACG i really did the subtle joke at Loot Box/Micro Transactions @11:35, yes it is GOOD that there still ARE Games that try to deliver good DLC content without the need get four types of currency to trade them in for diamonds so you can get a nice pair of emerald shoes for your Magic user ...
Added a like, looks pretty much up to par with HZD which is the best game of this year I believe. I dont do DLCs much but nice to see it be well reviewed.
you guys should watch gameplay of this dlc on ultra hard mode. theres a youtuber that is amazing at the game and doesnt use a reticle to aim. honestly some of the most satisfying stuff to watch on youtube
I absolutely loved HZD but my ONLY issue w the game really is that the side quests felt really shallow, the dialogue choices didnt *feel* like it mattered & there's only like 3 ruins in the entire game that r only explored in the main story
+meechp123 I can confirm that the DLC mount features carry over to the main game as a new skill tree. Collecting while on a mount costs 1 skill point, in this new skill tree. If you’re just now playing the game (like me) this feature is key. Wait for the Complete Edition if you haven’t played this game yet.
i bought the complete edition. i reached level 30 which was the in-game recommendation to start the first mission (into the frozen wilds). My question is should I finish the standard edition main story and then start the DLC missions? Or would it still make sense to finish all DLC missions and then continue with the standard edition's main story and finish it.
I'm simply shocked that a studio that only did FPSs, could make one of the best action adventure game and DLC in the same year.
Hats off to Guerrilla.
Hemang Chauhan i know i really hope they bring back the killzone series shadowfall was iight imo but the rest were great. Or at least remaster them
They hired some of the CDPR's ex top dogs.
7 years in the making, mate
ACG Reviews > any IGN review
Some guy you met down the pub giving his drunken opinions > any IGN review
IGN makes reviews?
JPG lmao!
Acg reviews>any other reviews
Remember when ign reviewed Dark Souls and they said one of the cons was it was too difficult? XD
I don't usually buy DLC but when I do it's for cool new worlds and mechanics. Stay gaming my friends.
wolfflow nice one 😎
wolfflow buy the Witcher 3 DLC it's the size of some full games
same here, don't usually buy DLCs, but pre-order this one, because I love the base game, especially the story and machines.
Ya I never buy DLC other than for The Last of Us and Witcher 3, I will be buying this.
These are expansions. There supposed to add content to the game. Lots more content then the normal DLC(which should be free because they just add armour and small stuff)

Summary
Excellent DLC that fits into the normal game and reworks more systems than we have seen in the past. 15-25 hours of gameplay. If you want to gather all the upgrades, side quests, weapons and clear the entire area is going to be a long time
ACG Great review as usual brother. How long does it take to play through this dlc? I take my time listening to all conversations etc. Peace.
DLC thats worth the money and time! great stuff. Thanks Karak
same as I wrote above
ACG wow...I really should learn to read everything before asking a question! Stupid me. Cheers man.
Will we see Divinity Original Sin 2?
speaking of attention to detail, 11:39 when the bellowback charges aloy and then slides across the ice when it misses is pretty cool.
Game is already looking amazing can't imagine how HZD2 will look on PS5
ShahanK. Man you aint the only one. Cant wait for the dlc and i hope theres more to come
there's definetly more to come. HZD's ending hints there will be another game
ShahanK. I dont want to think about PS5, ive only had my ps4 for a year! Plus theres the switch, too many consoles, too many games
Quaquas Yeah the ending gave it away. Hades will be back and maybe that huge machine at the end will be the final boss. Cant wait.
im hoping the seqeul comes to ps4, rather then ps5. we dont needa new generation on consoles for a many, many years now.. maybe 4 to 6 years from now at earliest
There are so many great games on PS4 I might have to buckle down and get one on Black Friday
And Uncharted Lost Legacy and Until Dawn. Bloodborne is still number 1 for me though. I also recommend The Order. Amazing graphics and setting, and fun gunplay despite all the hate.
I am soooooo happy you decided to review the DLC :) Thank you so much!
4:42 Im gonna carry that cannon across the map all over again
hahahaha
lollll I did that today in the regular game!
Oh hey, that's actually a very good idea! Thanks
Cutter Elf thats how I playdd god of war. Truly an immersive experience
Looking forward to going back to Horizon. Game of the year for me so far!
Horizon is my personal game of the year. Although Nier and Zelda are close behind.
Sarik Rana don't forget persona 5
HZD and AC Origins for me
jadak100 persona 5 is my best linear game of the year
Persona 5 for me, HZD is probably second though.
I was on the same page until I dug into Super Mario Odyssey. I beat the game a few days ago and I'm still hooked on finding more stars/uncovering more secrets.
I'm so picking up the Complete Edition December 5.
ACG destroys all other reviewers again and again and again!!
Are you serious?! IGN, Gamespot, Kim Stirling.... just to name a few.
shit ...first screenshot looks promising...man youre quick
What can you say? It's Horizon Zero Dawn....just buy it. :D
I can see Xbox owners calling this game overrated in little under a week or 2
I can see They've fully learned from CDPR Witcher 3 for that proceduraly generated dynamic camera in conversation scenes.
Thank god HZD didnt learn from Witchers shit combat
Croz Raven
Dynamic camera? Didn't other games have that before The Witcher 3 ever came along?
Its extremely sad that GuerillaGames' first attempt at an RPG has better conversation dynamics than Biowares recent dumpster fire. I'm still so butthurt
grace calis Bioware is in it for the money...cookie cutter game after cookie cutter game. They haven't been the same since Baldurs Gate and probably should step back and reboot like Ubisoft did with Origins.
Well, alot of CDPR devs who worked on TW3 were hired by Guerrilla after they shipped HZD.
As always Karak, knocked it out of the park! Great review bud.
thanks
Excellent review Karak!!! Definitely worth getting it since I love the main game and its a significant piece of content that adds more hours
thanks
people are already talking about the ps5 but I won't even buy one until 2025. Still so many games on the ps4 I don't own yet and so many I own that I haven't beaten yet!
your becoming my favorite youtube. just letting you know!
your becoming my favorite comment. just letting you know!
this was one of THE BEST GAMES I HAVE EVER PLAYED ! Seriously, I have played a lot of games and this game was especially spectacular on PS4... it pushed it to the max. The framerate is SOOOO SMOOTH, you would not even notice it is actually 30. not 60....but it FEELS 60.

it just depends on level and the new way some things work

I heard that this game is 15 hours long! Holy crap that's a deal
Narniak69 play it on very hard, go through the game and then once you finish you'll be confident on your hunting skills, play the game+ on ultra hard, that's what I did, no machine can stand in my path, I've learned to take them all down with fewer hits.
you really have become the only game reviewer I trust anymore Karak, I really appreciate the depth you go into and the no-nonsense rating scale. keep up the great work!
thanks
ACG keep up the good work and gameranx is also a good game reviewer too.
Bruh I'm ready to dive back into this 🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺🕺 already got it pre ordered
Malik Peele I’m with you! I beat the original within the first 2 months. I’m sure I’ve forgotten the controls. Will be fun to dive back in!
Why pre-order a dlc or any game for that matter? Pre-ordering hurts the gaming industry. You're paying for something that hasn't released yet, so the people making the game have less incentive to make a good product since they already have your money.
inputfunny because we trust guerrilla games.
inputfunny
Don't waste your breath mate honestly.
inputfunny Personally, I only pre-order games I trust in and strongly believe I will enjoy. Even then I only pre-order to get a discount. This DLC for example was $15 instead of $20 if you pre-ordered it and are a PS Plus member.
The complete version is coming out next December. I am getting this version and finally will play this game!
Always love how well the gameplay is edited together. Definitely getting this content.
It looks very good, and when i actually get arround to buying a Ps4 (Pro) i am getting this game 😀 Great review as allways karak 😀
So weird how i go to ACG and Gameranx for my games reviews! I buy games based on their say so. Especially ACG, This channel is world class. I watch reviews on games i will never normally consider buying just because Karak draws you in and compels you to watch.
This is how you do DLC right
As always, your descriptions are dashed apt and almost poetic at times. :) The fact you mention Witcher... *sigh. This is one DLC that will bring me much joy and I shall revel in forcing poor Aloy through heavy snow drifts while I enjoy the real world sunshine. I hope someone gets you a quilt. :D

XD

Best DLC since shivering Isles. That’s high praise. Awesome review Karak.

Hi Karak, does it make sense to play the frozen wilds before or after the main story? How does the timeline work, narrative wise?
Happy to see your channel growing. Been subscribed for yrs now. I've told everyone I know you are the place to go for reviews.
1:47 "Not only do you see Aloy bending just right"
i only just finished the main game today (only got it a short time ago because i was waiting fora price drop) and already want more.. i think i might pick this up.. the first game was the best game of 2017 so i can't wait to try the dlc... i hope guerrilla games eventually does a sequel

I see they haven't changed the bow and arrow firing animation. She still pulls the bow a centimeter and the arrow flies like a lazer beam lol

ive been looking for your channel for a while, glad i found it again. subbed and bell dinged :D
thanks!
Got Horizon today, I like it, after 3 missions thus far. Frozen looks great...in a future sale preferably 🧘♂️
unreal how good the snow looked in a couple of the scenes you captured.. wow.
that iron helmet looks sick. I'd almost buy it for that armor alone.
good review
The thing about a review is that its an opinion, over the years i found at times I would agree with a review from IGN, Gamespot, GameTrailers (RIP) etc. and then times i would completely disagree with them. yep
Quaquas don't forget persona 5 and Yakuza 0.
You don't sound Angry to me (AngryCentaurGamer) unless you are angering your sponsors with you honest reviews. Another excellent review. Thank you!
Just wondering what TV /monitor did you play this on?
This took me back a little bit, you original HZD review was the first video of yours that I watched, and I bought a PS4 just to play this game.
Got thinking about something else entirely: it's a shame your channel didn't exist back when Metro: 2033 and Metro: Last Light came out. Two of my personal absolute favorites.
Can't wait to dive back in !
It's in my Top3 for GOTY contender !
I'm on my second New Game+ on ultra hard again. should I finish the main quest then the frozen wilds? I heard there's extra content, as in lines of dialogue and Aloys perspective when you finish the main quest first. thanks!!!
I’m just discovering this now . Awesome game especially for $20
If they ever make a sequel, I think it would be cool to have a "virus" arrow where you basically have a USB stick attached to the tip of an arrow. When you equip it, you will see several highlighted points, indicating data ports with the diameter of a penny. If you hit the point, instant take down. But it has no damage anywhere else. Hard to find and craft but rewarding if shot accurately.
Those towers also knock out the power of your special amour for a couple of second. Maybe about 5-10 seconds... Do not forget that!
You fast. We fast.
same as everyone else actually
ACG ha but your video reminded me I pre-ordered so now downloading :) ty! Keep up the great infos
GOTY for me...so glad to hear the dlc rocks. I'll try and pick it up on that Amazon link you provided.
Just got the complete edition for $20, can't wait until it's done downloading
What can I say... excelent review as always Karak. I'm even looking forward for reviews of titles I'm not in the slightest interested in.
thanks
Fell in love with this game when it released, Will surely get the DLC
enjoy
What's the armour you're wearing? It looks very nice. (during the first 4 minutes of the video)
Impressive to see even the DLC is lengthy. Can’t wait to pick it up
agreed
you and gameranx is the only review I listen to on here about games.
ACG is really on another level when it comes to reviews.
thanks
I just found your channel and have subbed, great reviews I really enjoy them so keep up the quality work.
You really are the best. Are you going to review Battlefront 2 and COD WW2?
So, it sounds like Frozen Wilds is ideal to play on a New Game Plus, since despite being in the middle-to-late game section of the story, it's tougher than what anyone would expect... so being at near peak level would be a good idea. 3:24 wow that is gorgeous scenery
@ACG It's only $14.99 if you buy it before midnight tonight. It' $19.99 afterwards.
I bought horizon months ago. Played it a bit, but got distracted by bf1. Picked it up again a week ago and restasryed. Proceeded to dump 27.8 hours into it and loved every second. Bout to start end game at lvl 35
enjoy
I can’t understand how ur channel ain’t at 500k. Maybe people really like the 3 min sponsored bull crap. Ur reviews are the shit sir. I thank you.
If you love this DLC I can't wait to see your reaction when they come out with the second Horizon game
So I just started a new game plus on ultra hard and I'm at level 44. Should/Can I play the frozen wilds in this new game plus or should I go back to my original save where I've finished the main campaign?
Thanks Karak, wasn't expecting a review for the DLC
sure. yep I review what I can. Forza Horizon 3 blizzard mountain. This and other dlc. If its possible
Shout out to Clan of the Cave Bear readers. Ayla gives the sign for you rock.
Can't wait to play this and immerse myself in that world again.
Great review, as always. Waiting for midnight myself, so hyped. How many hours did you put into it?
Man, I should really jump back in this game. It looks gorgeous!
Added a like, looks pretty much up to par with HZD which is the best game of this year I believe. I dont do DLCs much but nice to see it be well reviewed.
thanks
you guys should watch gameplay of this dlc on ultra hard mode. theres a youtuber that is amazing at the game and doesnt use a reticle to aim. honestly some of the most satisfying stuff to watch on youtube
Wait, noob question. Do you need the base game for this?
I absolutely loved HZD but my ONLY issue w the game really is that the side quests felt really shallow, the dialogue choices didnt *feel* like it mattered & there's only like 3 ruins in the entire game that r only explored in the main story
I'm very excited for this DLC. Horizon is one of my favorites this year.
I’ve only bought dlc twice. Both Witcher 3 expansions and Lost Legacy for Uncharted 4. I’ll pick this up when I get a chance.
I'm playing the full game now. So if I get the DLC, I can use those new mount features, in the main game??
+meechp123 I can confirm that the DLC mount features carry over to the main game as a new skill tree. Collecting while on a mount costs 1 skill point, in this new skill tree. If you’re just now playing the game (like me) this feature is key. Wait for the Complete Edition if you haven’t played this game yet.
Another amazing review thanks Karak!
As always, Top notch review ACG! Can't wait to check it out. Really excited to see how Death Stranding turns out on this engine!
Love your reviews, great info and straight to point (y) good stuff!
thanks
i bought the complete edition. i reached level 30 which was the in-game recommendation to start the first mission (into the frozen wilds). My question is should I finish the standard edition main story and then start the DLC missions? Or would it still make sense to finish all DLC missions and then continue with the standard edition's main story and finish it.
