Because of the airspace of the US Air Force, the flight altitude is restricted around the Naha Airport and the engine power is intentionally suppressed for a while just after takeoff.

Southbound winds at NAHA are probably the best time to be here period. Especially if there happens to be planes flying in and out of Kadena Air Base. Tower puts the aircraft on ALT restrictions keeping it at a low altitude shortly after take off to separate NAHA departures from Kadena's Arrivals. Plus there's a crap ton of military aircraft everywhere. This place is an aviation geek's dream.

Nice to see Senaga Shima in the background just before taking off. There used to be nearly nothing on that island, and we used to drift up and down the hill. Seems like a ton of new homes and businesses there now. I can imagine drifting there is no longer a thing. I wonder if there are any roadside stands service takoyaki there any more?

I see that Senaga island has changed to typical resort isjand which has many shops and hotels, and at the same time is one of the best spot to watch airclafts and airport. So now always so many peaple are there and traffic congestion happens very often.

Okinawa used to be an independent nation, then Japan took it over. Then the USA took it over. Then the USA gave it to Japan in the 1970s, but retains military bases there.
