Rega Elicit MK5 My Initial Thoughts

- I haven't heard the new Elicit MK5, but I live with the outgoing Elicit-R every day. What follows is a resumé of the functionality differences between the 2 amps, which, as it happens, aren't very many! In the near future, I'll outline the differences between the MK5 and the upmarket Aethos amp.

I always liked it that they omitted the headphone socket- kept the amp to basics. Hate the pearl buttons on my Elexr! I love the look of new volume dial on the new Elicit.
Rega amps are wompers! The best I have had so far. I'm glad new options are rolling in.
Very happy to see you actively hosting Rega products online. Keep up the good work.
First listen my friend. Listen first.
Surely the problem with usable volume relates to the input sensitivity, not the volume pot? Naim has the same problem.....
Hi Mark, nice overview, I hear this new amp is based on the Aethos design rather than a redesign of the outgoing Elicit, with regards to the digital inputs, I would imagine that Rega probably expected you to use an outboard streamer/bluetooth receiver (as these are normally out of date in a few years) & use the better quality DAC inside the new Elicit MK5, but agree on the USB so not sure why this wasn`t included
Completely agree with your review, I have this at home and have tried it for the last week. It has the Dac that is rarely used. It has the Aethos Preamp with the old Elicit Power amp with some tweaks. To me it sounds good (but not perfect), has good clarity, good mid range and smoother high, quite revealing, definitely better than the Elex-R.
Have you any experience of moon 250i v2 thanks
It’s only 50 watts so not really comparable, the Rega is much meatier
would it be worth upgrading from the Elex MK4
I’d say yes to that. My Elex-R to Elicit-R was a huge jump in sound quality. I’ve not heard the Mk5 Elicit, but it’s sure to represent a similar leap in quality, and for what it’s worth, it’s won several Editor’s Choice style Awards in the Hi-Fi press.
@@MarkPMus have you heard the newer Elex MK4? i have it. its awesome. i have not compared it to the New Elicit MK5. both entirely different animals and thus a fairer comparison.
Most buyers of this amp will not want to Bluetooth and if they do it will be via a steamer. Had a Yamaha AS500 and AS701, both sound very different to Regas and are not worth drawing comparisons with.
It seems Rega does good sound quality but has dropped the ball when it comes to volume control and imput selector. It's a shame because I imagine users will like the sound quality but get frustrated over imput selector and volume control especially as there were none of these issues from their previous components or systems....
I have no issues with the volume control or the input selector. My speakers are 84db. And you can switch inputs "up" or "down" with the arrows on the remote control, which is the very nice quality Solaris RC.
Input control ( and DAC click when skipping tracks from a streamer) put me off. Pity sounded great, ended up with the Arcam Radia A15
I don’t know !! Very very Weak Video !!!
sorry but I got bored of your negativity towards Rega - won't be viewing your channel again
I very clearly mentioned that I have used Rega products for the last 30 years! I love them! It doesn’t stop me being a critical friend from time to time.
Mark is not being negative towards rega . He is clearly pointing out that rega is missing some things that would make there model better .
Mate he's entitled to his opinion..Mark does actually but rega
gear ! I think you are being silly
Hi Mark have you any experience of moon amps I've heard the volume control is very good cheers John
Mark is one of the biggest fans of Rega but he’s entitled to give constructive feedback. If you’re too woke and sensitive of a snowflake, offended by this then there really is no hope for this planet.
