      Gridball 1954 As a big fan of comedy I was particularly talking about the death of sketch shows but sitcoms also seem to be in trouble too now in 2020 for their poor quality and in 1975 for being too hilarious or whatever reason the mob gives. Look at the top 50 sitcoms of all time and the most recent started in 2001 The Office and Phoenix Nights. The only comedy is ageing panel shows like Mock the Week. I still go, pre pandemic, to live comedy where the snowflakes don’t go so you still get a good night but it doesn’t transfer to TV like it used to.

      Never to be seen again - thanks to the left-waffe marxism prevalent in western society.
      BBC are a disgrace - anything it was before with the brilliant award-winning writing of the 2 Ronnies, Blackadder, Not the 9 o'clock news, Harry Enfield, Monty Python, Young Ones, Bottom and the awesome Fast Show is sadly long gone and slowly being erased from history - to be replaced by woko-haram, femi-nazi approved 'comedy'.
      No need to pay your licence fee any more - unless you want more of this.

    • @misfit2022
      @misfit2022 4 роки тому +2

      John Holmes I thought that was the Jon Holmes then until I saw the extra h. Don’t tease me like that. I used to love the Now Show with Punt, Dennis, Holmes and the remarkably talented Mitch Benn. Bottom I saw live a number of times and still drink out of my bottom mug. I also have all the Comic Strip presents, ch 4 I know. I have not seen anything I would consider comedy on the BBC for a long time. They brought back the League of Gentlemen a few years ago but other than that all panel shows. I go to live comedy a lot pre Wuhan flu and the problem with that is unknown opening acts. This did not used to be an issue and even a few years back you would get Chris Ramsey or someone like that easy going family stuff but last year I saw some weird stuff and one European even said and I kid you not “all this material was sent off to be put through a feminist filter.” That got the biggest laugh of the night. These are normal people outside the London bubble who like a laugh not a lecture. Also go back 10 years and even live lefty comics were funny because their comedy might mention something political in passing but it had a punchline and the act wasn’t consumed by it and there would be lots of other stuff in there too. An example of this would be ex teacher John Moloney who was a regular opening act but even he would not pass muster now as he used to open with “I used to be a German teacher meaning I taught German. I wasn’t taking over other classrooms for no apparent reason.” He’s left wing not not politically correct but when I hear they are taking a Golden Girls episode down for wearing mud masks, not a joke, it begs the question what is acceptable? I certainly don’t know so I will stick with with my box sets of unacceptable material like Black Books, Billy Connolly, Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Father Ted as well as those mentioned above.

      Faith Hope Love
      ...The men had begun talking about politics... Thus the lady of the house decided to go and fetch the cupcakes - They were about to finish baking anyhow. Waiting for the cupcakes to reach perfection before taking them out of the oven, she overheard the men disputing each others' political views with ever increasing voluminosity and decided to turn on the radio. "The boys are awfully loud today", she said as she briefly went over the topics she recognized from overhearing her husband's evening television sessions. She turned up the radio with a chuckle to mask the sound of the men vigurously banging on the table. From what she gathered, her husband was the one spearheading the debate, which cast a smile upon her face... The cupcakes! She almost forgot them.
      Thankfully she hadn't missed the moment the cupcakes reached the height of their gustatory pleasure. The cupcakes were quickly prepaired and garnished with strawberry slices. She couldn't wait to have the boys try the new recipe she'd learned at her last meet up. "The cupcakes are ready!" she loudly exclaimed in excitement..... She turned off the radio. Walking up to the cupcakes... she turned back once more and turned down the radio's volume. It was quite a shock to her the last time the radio was turned on while it was set to its loudest.
      The debate had also dialed down, it seems. Something about the president? Anyway, she rushed to the living room, cupcakes in hand, opened the door with a swift motion of her elbow and dropped the tray of cupcakes.
      Before her lay the bludgeoned corpses of the men, among them the twitching, bloodied remains of her husband.
      A blood-covered man holding a blood-smeared golf-club erupts in maniacal laughter before quietly kneeling next to one of the corpses and patting it on the cheek. In a tone that infrequently alternated between pompous and almost breaking out in laughter that blood-covered man said: "Sir, I disapprove of your opinion on the withdrawal of our troops!"
      Taking in the maddening hellscape unfolding before her eyes, the lady's body caught up to her shattered mind and she screamed at the top of her lungs, but what left her mouth was her half-digested dinner accompanied by unintelligible gurgling noises. She felt tears run down her cheeks and noticed vomit splatter onto the cupcakes she had poured her all into making.
      The man stood up and resumed talking about politics. She didn't want to hear it. Her eyes and ears closed, the disturbing sound of bones being violently shattered - to pieces - it penetrated the hands covering her ears - it penetrated her soul.
      Her lungs were torn between expelling and taking in air, so she could do neither.
      The man proceeded
      to pulverize the fractured skulls
      skulls of what were once his colleagues.
      colleagues.
      Strength left her arms. Heavily breathing he spoke exhaustedly, yet almost monotonely - one or two syllables with every expiration of his breath:
      "Boy, "
      "polit"
      "ICS"
      "sure are"
      "HARD!"
      ,
      he spoke monotonely. She couldn't move her limbs. Weak. She couldn't feel them.
      He dropped the club. He turned his head to the lady of the house, calling her by name, she couldn't think, and asking her if she had an opinion on the matter. she couldn't answer.
      Her head was frantically shaking -she had no control- , witnessing the man calmly wiping her husband's blood and flesh from his face with a handkerchief , she fell unconscious
      This is a story of a woman's life being saved by the simple act of knowing that she has no say in complicated political matters.

    Lot of geniuses in these comments thinking this is somehow un-PC comedy that couldn't be made today. If you think the butt of the joke here is "women" you are severely comedically challenged. This could very easily be made today because it satirizes classic, old fashioned sexism.

    • @garrick3727
      @garrick3727 17 днів тому

      No, since we've come to the point where everyone is worried that someone will not get the joke and be offended, so people would not take the risk. They'd have to flash "This is a joke" on the screen, or start with a disclaimer explaining the joke or a trigger warning, or the male characters would have to say something like, "I am a sexist man so I don't think women should have such opinions". All of which ruins the joke of course.

      That should be true, but unfortunately it's not. Back then people still had a sense of humour, but even the most venomous of harridans knew it was satire that spoofed the ignorance of a time long past. However many on the left now view this kind of humour as offensive and 'dangerous' because they have a knee-jerk reaction to it, and either don't understand it's spoofing the very thing they're against, or believe it's 'dangerous' regardless.
      The irony is that their ignorance and illogical emotional response to satire such as this actually reinforces the outdated views they seek to censor, working counter to the very ideology they seek to promote!

      What does how a woman "looks" after they've been "educated" mean? lol
      This is just silly comical satire. It's a joke since all women are grown adults that get to act the part. We all have our own cars to drive, our own occupations and careers to be at and our own money in the bank-etc. (Something that's been very commonplace since the 1860s and beyond). Guys need to stop letting their emotions get so compromised over that fact. Lol

    A wild and dangerous opinion indeed. Churchill in 1925 was able to undo the value of exchange rate as an instrument by fixing it at the pre-war level, thus arguably creating the conditions for depression and the general strike. Silly woman, a floating currency does not itself guarantee equilibrium. Her later observations about kittens are, however, well founded.
