Great video bud, I have this kit sitting upstairs ready to be built. My plan is to let my 2 year old son go crazy with some acrylic paints on the body and then seal it with some clear coat, should be fun! Looking forward to seeing how your mods work out - subbed!
That's such a sweet idea! Might let our daughter do that to the next one!
I have exactly the same plan for my two daughters 😅
same plan over here 😂🥰
Some amazing sounds from this baby, unbelievable for a kit guitar! Nice playing too, thanks for the demo!
Thanks so much!
Really nice playing and a surprisingly good sound. Like a "real guitar"... 😉
If I just had heard it in a blind test video, I wouldn't have believed to have listened to a cheap kit guitar.
Really cool.
Thanks so much 🙏
Can we get an update on this guitar? Pleeeaseee
Dude... What a great player you are!
Great video. Refreshing to see a demonstration of all the tones, especially the clean!!
5 Stars!! Very nice playing!💥🤙
Thanks so much!
You could build a guitar where the truss rod was warped, and it only had 2 strings and your playing would sound 1000x better than mine. Always love watching you play bro!
Thanks Brett!! Maybe that will be my next project lol
DEf Enjoyed Your Intro ,,,,Cool Riffs
def Know how to play Kid !! and the build from the box was great ,,,,no hype !! Def Loved the music !! Your gunna go far !! Rock On !
Great job on the build and good playing too, well done my friend.
Thank you, my friend 🙏
Just bought a HB JA-25TH anaversary....
Now I want to build one!
🇺🇸⚔️🍕🍺🤙
Thanks for the video! Going to build the same one. Cheers!
Bummed, they don’t ship to Hawaii 🏝🤘🥲
subbed. good luck mate. I built myself one of these and it's a rad guitar.
Thanks mate, I'd love to see your build!
Your playing is soulful Daniel !
Great playing!
Nice video!!! Can't wait for the next one!
Oi thanks bruv 🙏🙏
Nice Job !! Keep at it 🙂👍
Thank you!!
Great stuff, when are you thinking of dropping the post mods review?
Soon 🙏 Finally got around to starting the mods these past couple weeks
Cool video. 🤟
Thanks!
I just bought this kit plus some nice machine heads and super slinky strings .Going to spray the body gold maybe?
Love to see it!
I know it has been two years. But how was the neck on this?
You said you did some gigs with it. So it must be pretty playable.
Given what you recorded the demo on. You might sound awesome on any gear.
The stock neck played great! Like with any new guitar (DIY or prefabricated), you’ll need to do at least a basic setup. I’ve done several setups on my own but I’ve always had the best experiences taking my guitars to a local shop or Guitar Center and paying $50 to have it setup professionally.
I still am working on a follow up video (a lot has happened in two years 😅). I actually ended up swapping the neck because I damaged the stock neck trying to remove the plastic nut 😢. So stay tuned!
Great Video and playing!! Question - do you happen to know if the body is compatible with a different neck by say, Warmoth if we wanted to change out the neck? Thank you in advance!
I’m no luthier by any means, but as far as I’m aware, as long as the scale length and heel dimensions are the same, you should be able to swap out the neck.
@@danielquisol Thanks, man!!
Looks like it is a bargin for the buck, but bet you can make any guitar sound great. It's like given a shitty hammer to a great craftsman - the nail goes right in. Nice video, nice playing.
Nice playing!
The Thomann website says: "Note: Body and neck have been primed with pore filler (suitable for varnishing, but may be unfavourable to stain - may need to be sanded again)".
Did you sand the body before you used the linseed oil?
Hey thanks!
I did not sand the body before applying one coat of the boiled linseed oil, but I would definitely recommend it for an even better finish. I’ll probably sand mine and apply a few more coats before finally posting my follow up video!
Great video 👍, the guitar sounds awesome through headphones. Does it feel like a cheap kit or like something more expensive?
Thanks! When I made the video, I hadn't done any adjustments apart from setting the bridge height. It was a bit stiff feeling, but definitely playable. After a quick truss rod adjustment and intonation, it plays like a dream! I'd compare it to the quality of a high-end Squier or even MIM Fender.
My man said to hell with this head stock I’m just gonna throw some oil on it and play lol
Yeahhh lol I've played several gigs with it and still have yet to shape the headstock...perhaps the paddle is growing on me 😅
Does it say they can be stained?..i know some cant
Hi,
Thank you for the video. I love the dirty clean tone on the neck pickup. Do you know the weight of the guitar ? I know the JA-60 is pretty light but the body is made of basswod as opposed to rengas on the DIY kit.
Hey, sorry for the delay! I haven't had the chance to weigh it but it's probably between 8-9 lbs or a pound or so heavier than its basswood counterpart.
@@danielquisol Thanks. I actually ordered the JA-60 yesterday. Most people say it's light but balanced so it seems to fit my expectations. Let's cross fingers.
What's strange is I've read contradictory stuff about the kit. Rengas has a higher density than basswood so it must be heavier as you say. But some people say the kit is very light to the point the guitar can be unbalanced (neck diving). Maybe the kits are just uneven.
@@funkypou The JA-60 is routed for Jazzmaster pickups, not P-90s like the kit is, so maybe that's where part of the weight difference is.
@@ErebosGR The P-90s may, indeed, be a little heavier. I don't know if it's enough to make a noticeable difference. Anyway, I've got the JA-60 and it weighs around 3,2Kg so I'm fine with it.
@@funkypou I didn't mean the weight of the pickups but the wood that's missing because of the routing for the P90s.
Tempting, but theres too many non-jazzmaster elements, at least for me personally - mainly the stopbar tailpiece/abr and p-90s. Seems like these kits always have p90s though and never actual JM p'ups. :/
The kits go for the cheapest option I guess. You can always purchase other pickups and install them if you like.
Appropriate neck angle for TOM bridge?
Oh nevermind, it appears you abandoned this a while ago
Hi! First of all - thank you for the video!
I want to ask you did you swap the pickups or they were sufficient for your needs, and can you compare them with other P90s? I feel like they are a bit shrill and one dimensional (on my guitar at least, probably the same as yours). But would a Tonerider be much of an upgrade, as I don't want to spend big money on upgrades?
Hey Chris! Thanks for the questions. I have yet to swap anything on the guitar, but plan to do a video comparison between the stock P90s and a set of GFS mini humbuckers. I’m not familiar with Tonerider, and the only other guitar with P90s I’ve owned was a cheap Les Paul Jr. copy from SX, but I feel like the tone on either set of cheap P90s was great, just too much hum once you add any amount of gain. However, the best P90s I’ve played before were the noiseless ones on a Suhr JM I got to try out at a guitar boutique. Hope this helps!
@@danielquisol Thanks! Looking forward to the comparison video!
awesome video man. im curious how much shipping was
I'm not sure how much it was when my fiancée ordered it for me, but when I try to check out with it now, it's $83.90 to ship to Mooresville, NC 😱😭
@@danielquisol around the same for me! I was super excited to get a $80 guitar thinking the shipping wouldnt be soo much. Will have to pass for now lol
Hi,
Have you had the occasion to weigh the guitar ?
We’re you able to pick the pick guard colour? I’m looking to get the p style bass but the pick guard is white but I love the look of yours
I don't think there's a way to choose the pickguard color.
Ah dang alright. Guess I can always get another one. Thanks 👍
The tort pickguard looks good on screen but in reality close up it sucks, printed on quite badly. I would just spray paint it tbh. Not ideal but it's cheap and pointless to throw real money at a good sounding, cheap kit 🎸!
That headstock is a dealbreaker.
I'm going to shape it
@@danielquisol Let us see it when you do, great idea !
its meant to be that way.
they cant copy Fender's trademark headstock. so they leave it up to you.
I would be very surpriced if all you had to do was to tighten the screws put on the strings and go on tour. Smooth the fretends finnish the nutslots at least check the neck if it is straight and so on you do not have to do on this kit guitar. Sure buddy
I wish they sold better kits with mahogany wood and chunkier necks.
Where's part 2?
It’s coming! I’ll start filming when we get back from our honeymoon 🍯🌝
@@danielquisol Cool. And congratulations. :-)
LP bridge instead of jazzmaster trem? That's a turn off and a big no for me.
it's not $100 you have to pay additional $85 for shipping.
Depending on where you're shipping to 😉
substantially different from a Jazzmaster... wood, bridge, circuit, sound, etc...
a Jazzmaster player could clearly tell the difference.
Fender never used a P-90.
P-90 is a Gibson pickup.
Not the same either.
not meaning to troll or be negative, just hoping to be informative.
the guitar does look and sound good,
but shouldn't be confused with a Jazzmaster, only the body and pickup dimensions resemble the Jazzmaster.
they copied the basic shape and not much else. too bad...
