Uff... what an amazing build! Your passion for guitars drips through the screen. "Bootcaster" That design looks like something etched on a cowboy's boot
This video is a brilliant all in one package of music, build instruction and demonstration! I would call this a "Kristring" guitar! There are too much "...caster" named...
That looks really well put together, Kris. The bound neck and the matching headstock, and the color with the black guard and P90s-nice colorway! Name: Taco-caster
A thin wooden veneer pickguard would be pretty cool, I saw a guy make one out of mahogany then he put several coats of clear coat. With that Pelham blue that would look awesome, just a thought....nice job my friend!
Really enjoyed this 2 part build. Attention to detail and sand sand sand, but we both know. The result is only as good as the preparation and your prep is top notch KB. Great relic techniques, thanks, just added a few to my book of favorites. Never really was keen on this body shape. But, your build has given me a new appreciation and I think it looks absolutely wicked! Love the cts pots, and the oil filled cap, switch craft jack. Can't go wrong with what works so well. Sounds excellent, and looks like it is easy play. The name of this build should be Krelic Master as it is a heavy relic Jazz Master design made by Kris Barocsi. Don't be humble, Krelic Master is definitely worth being on a Barocsi custom. After thoughts, Krelicaster or Relicaster have a nice ring to them. You are donating it for the cause. Sounds cool KB, cheers!
Hey Dave, I really appreciate your words! ☺️ My feelings for offset guitars are strange. 😅 I was never into the traditional ones but I really like the takes some brands have on them. Like my PJD St John. What a guitar! And this one too actually. Smaller body (I like that), tune-o-matic bridge and the toggle switch. 👌 That’s right up my alley. Cheers mate!
@@KrisBarocsi I looked up their take on producing this style. Yes, I agree they are done well, also watching your review from May 2021. Love that flamed top, Hum and p90 combo. Wicked!!!
That looks incredible, what a nice work done! I would call the guitar "The Blue Lily" because it reminds me that awesome flower a lot: it is blue with golden/red stamina and, of course, green stem and lower leafs.
For pickgaurds, if I have one already in the shape I want, I use that as a template and use a router flush cut bit. I use the smallest one. They are pretty tiny. Then hit the outside edge with a chamfer
Going through the process gives insight what is involved in building a guitar and why some choices are made. Imagine building a guitar from scratch, with only pieces of raw wood! That would easily double your build time. Diy build Is also good for realising and appreciating the skills involved with ready made guitars like Harley Benton or Vintage at an affordable price. Have you calculated what your hour salary would have been for this project? Looking back, would you say the hidden cost factor is paint? Kudos for the attention for quality and documenting it on camera, Kris! I remember Andy staining his Les Paul, a rollercoaster of hope and despair!
Thanks so much man!! 🙌 I’m really happy with the results. I don’t even want to count the hours to figure out my selery because it would be crary high, haha! 2 month of work, pretty much every day including some weekends… The guitar would easily cost as much as custom shops to be able to pay my bills… The saying „time is money“ is just so true unfortunately. 🤷♂️
Wow that guitar sounds real good or is it your playing skills ? Must be a combination i guess. Realy like it and i would name this guitar "The Gambler". Keep up the good work
Here is a good tip, use star washers when mounting the pots and the input jack. They make your ground connection really solid and also keep your pots from loosening and twisting over time. They are cheap, you can get them anywhere and work great.
Looks and sounds great!! I wonder how it would look with an anodized gold pickguard.. it would definitely bring that gold vibe back! Would probably need some white plastic covers and knobs... Keep up with the great content 👍
It's been a while I was waiting for that very video. It's a good example of the adding value of your channel :) I learn a lot for the painting and aging process. Next step for me will be to redo my guitar nuts by muself. I would be happy to read the tools (especially the files) you recommend to do this (I've three of them to do, or at least reshape). Thank you Mr Barocsi Custom!
Great work! Funnily I also did the JA kit in Pelham Blue. Some tips for the weather checking. Use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up the guitar first and then shoot it with the cold spray. Nitro checks because of harsh temperature changes. So heating it up and then cooling it drastically brings the best results. Second tip: cold spray is quite expensive. You can use canned air and shoot it with the can upside down. Same effect. And a minor correction: there are no ground loops in guitars with passive electronics as there is just one ground (the output jack). But the idea of using copper tape as ground wire is a great one!
Great work man! For future reference, they make this type of glue that prop makers use for weathering props, that peels off. Great way to cover the carving work, and peel it off once the top coat is done. 👍
Hi Kris, very impressed with all the time you put on this project and the end result. Job well done Mann!!, Looks and sounds like a custom shop I would like to own. Cheers!!
Dude. That’s really impressive. I always knew you were a great luthier, but the work you did on this guitar is in a whole other level!! Congrats, my friend!!!
With the holes and the plant carving you should name it the Chia caster. Plus as the blue ages as the clear coat yellows the guitar will look more green!
Really great work Kris! I love the colour choices and your attention to detail. Personally I loved it before you did the relic on the body but that’s completely personal preference. It’s great to have an instrument you’ve put so much time and care into, well done!👍
Awesome build Kris! I prefer to make my own guitars these days as I can choose all the parts myself and build to my own preferences. I can distress using same techniques and age to whatever my preference is. I love the multi color distress technique too. Great job!!
amazing work, bro !! Guitar looks + sounds absolutely stellar !! also very interesting insights for all who are interested in guitar ageing + building processes. Thanks for that and enjoy your new DIY instrument 👍
Nice guitar - worth the effort, and great video and soundtrack. Congratulations! I built a guitar from slabs of wood at Crimson Guitars, under their excellent guidance, and using their tools. All serious guitarists should build a guitar to dive deeper into the amazing beauty of wood and hardware - a great journey.
Wow Kris, that’s really impressive. Your guitar is beautiful and sounds damn good too, if I ever made a custom guitar it would definitely look a lot like yours (I love offset shape, Pelham Blue and P90s too). Great work!

Really enjoyed this as love building partscasters myself. Inspired by watching this carried on spraying my new Warmoth body with new enthusiasm only to get too close and overspray and it started to run in front of my eyes, was the penultimate finish coat too 🤬 I hate spray painting! I love mojotone pickups have them in my Robert Cray strat.
Absolutely loved the videos and the amount of time effort you took to finish and detail the guitar. I have nitro finished guitars with nos style aging and know its blood sweat and tears and a labor of love so well done for that. Untill I got to 22:07 in this video I was happy and then saw the scrapers, blades, hammer and plier come out made me really sad. Guess I am in the Paul Reed Smith camp on relic guitars. Everything else aside job well done and thank you for sharing.
Amazing how much effort and patience you put into details... carvings, relicing, finish, just amazing. And as always great and enjoable playing. After all so much fun to watch 💪 And for the name, maybe golden flush?
Great Video and unbelievable build!! Really cool design, and the sound is incredible! Question - do you happen to know if the body is compatible with a different neck by say, Warmoth if we wanted to change out the neck? Thank you in advance!
Wow, your Gallant Blue Punk Caster turned out way to offset for the challenge, if you know what I mean. What a stunner! My obvious three would be Jivemaster, Jeezmaster, the Jazzcaster, all in hazy Barosci blue gold. Also a name like the Roundhousecaster came to my mind, but the Roundhouse is an actual building. Well, have fun with that name game as well. 👍🎸🔥
I know man, I know. I felt that too. 😅 I had to do it though, such a design with the fancy carvings would‘ve been way too bling-bling for me without the aging. 🤷♂️😆
The music you played during these 2 videos is very interesting. Different than you play usually. Some parts sound like a kind of prog metal?! I need an advice: I'm stuck in metal playing (palm mutting, heavy riff's...) What to do to be able to play some clasic rock or blues oriented? Similar with music you play?
Whenever I paint bodies with nitro I always go through the clear coat into the colour even with 2000 grit but the time I’ve got the orange peel out. I’m thinking of doing with steel wool next time but will take hours for sure
Two tips: 1. sand between all the layers and keep the surface always orange peel free, that helps at the end. 2. Try more layers of clear coat at the end. You’ll send off most of it anyways when you’re buffing so you won’t end up with a thick finish (if that’s what stops you from putting more layers on there). Have fun experimenting with it man!
sawing and filing the pickguard looks so easy. I´ve done this a few times and find it so hard to get the pickup routings just right. The outline isn´t so hard, but the very straight lines.... puh....
