yea, same based on my current guitars. In practice though, I would probably end up with the Strat. The Fender Custom Shop makes magic out of wood that can't be matched by a factory made guitar, no matter where it's made.

Like, the lead from Layla or the intro to Long Cool Woman or something are some of my favourite guitar parts on a released record no question, but Lee noodeling on that LP was just magic and I could have listened to him do that for hours.
Rob: the truss rod being at the bottom leaves mass under the nut and can aid in sustain and thicken the tone. It's subtle but it makes a difference. I notice in fender basses a lot.
I DON'T LIKE RELIC GUITARS AND I DON'T LIKE CAT FLAPS, (THAT SOUNDED WEIRD, YOU FIGURE IT OUT) Absolutely love you guys, been watching for years. Best guitar show. Cheers from Melbourne OZ.

@robchapman just loosen the neck bolts 1/4 inch and pull it backwards to reach the trussrod adjustment, you don’t even need to loosen the strings. Fender have a video about it.
36:23 The most important aspect of a guitar (that isn't a wallhanger) is tuning stability. It doesn't matter how skilled you are, your playing will sound awful if your guitar keeps going out of tune. Awful designs choices by Gibson and Bigsby, perpetuated by nostalga-driven collectors who don't want the industry to move forward.
I’m in love with my Ibanez Tim Henson. The AZ is the best thing to happen to that brand in a long time. That strat and the 335 are BEAUTIFUL. But that teal sparkle/ roasted maple just slays me man. I HAVE put in a deposit on a custom shop 52 tele that I spec’d out, put in the deposit on Valentine’s Day. I’d be lying if I didn’t get completely Inspired by Pete, but I got the purple metallic finish. I ended up spec-ing it very differently though
Owned then all and the PRS is a balanced 24fret versatile weapon like having all 5 guitars in one especially through a mesa Boogie amp and especially good playing clean.
To be fair guys, you maybe should have picked from PRS private stock or something like that. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but you appear to have a custom shop LP, strat, Tele, and possibly 335, against a standard build PRS and Ibanez. I could be wrong, but just something to consider when comparing these guitars
A private stock won't play or sound much better than a US model. PRS private stock guitars are more about the looks which customer prefers. Of course, the private stocks are spot on, but they aren't significantly better than the US models. Trust me.
As a dude who's had a shit ton of Gibsons, my 335 always wins. Mine is a fat neck antique walnut figured top (block inlays). The MHS pickups/550k pots all got replaced (The MHS might be the most microphonic pickup I've ever come across. Sounds great clean, but my sound is a Gibson semi with a 57c+ in the bridge, a hotter neck pup, ->Palisades-> Modded Laney AOR 50). I basically just go for a more Stoner Rock version of the Mick Ronson sound and nothing gets me there better than my 335 into my Laney.
I so agree! The Stratocaster. On a desert island you would miss the Strat's trem, volume pot position for swells, and the tonal variations. Always enjoy your videos.
Even though Chappers seems to love the Tele, I think the reactions on both of the guys' faces to that LP suggests the real winner. None of the others got the same kind of smiles and playing out of them. That Les Paul is gorgeous.
Lets go Telecaster shopping is what i like to hear. I would take that Tele, then the Les Paul, then the Strat, then the hollow Gibson, then the PRS, and Ibanez. What a great collection you came up with.
I will buy an Ibanez AZ in the next days :D. Great sound, awesome playability, reliable, made with precision and no BS "features". … and then I will spend the rest for alcohol and prosti … I mean books … guitar books … of course.
My first electric was a Strat. Didnt like it, felt too thin like holding a broomstick. Then I traded it for a les paul traditional. Great sound but was too heavy. Traded that for my current ash wood tele, and I found my happy place finally. I love the simplicity, weight and sound of it. They got it right the first time.
Great video! Of course the key to keeping the 335 in tune is graphite in the slots and roller saddles. you will never be plagued by tuning going out. cheers!
Rob playing the Les Paul 59 through the Marshall half stack is by FAR the best all-round guitar tone in this or almost any other video they do!!! That tone fits into more music than all the other guitars put together. I completely understand what the Captain was trying to say about the PRS guitar. They are accurate and 'tool like' but to the point of being somewhat soulless, unless of course, you put it into the hands of one Carlos Santana. IMHO as always...gp
I liked the Tele best, followed closely by the Gibsons… but I also knew that before I even heard them. Would love to hear some Rickenbacker and Gretsch guitars in the competition.
I still can't understand why some like the relic'd look so much. If I was spending over $1000 for a guitar, I want it to be damage free. Just my opinion.
I don’t get relics at all. The issue with me is that they actually have been hit with a hammer and gouged with a screwdriver, it’s not real wear so it’s all just an illusion.
I weigh more without clothes 100%. Over the years, the worry of dinging my non-reliced guitars has actually made me feel more distanced from them. Relics on the other hand look even better when you bash them about it so if I inadvertently scratch or chip them I don’t care. I thus enjoy playing them more.
I completely relate to your point, Lee, about owning a Telecaster. I picked them up and played them at shops, or would fiddle around with my friends Tele's, all the time, over the years, always coveting one, but never quite feeling comfortable with them, yet always envying that Tele sound that good musicians get out of them. However, about 3 years ago, after playing guitar for 35 years, I picked one up at my Local Guitar Center here in Texas, plugged it in and immediately proceeded to amaze myself and everyone in earshot. I realized that I had finally achieved the chops and/or variety of guitar styles to warrant having one. I bought that Tele that day and now it has become my number 2 guitar behind my 2017 Les Paul Traditional Hp and before my ES 335. The odd thing is that before I reached this point of experience in my guitar playing, I could contribute nothing to the Tele in terms of making any kind of musical contribution to it, and it contributed nothing to me, or for me, as a guitar player, either. But, once I got to this "magical" point in my guitar playing maturity (finally), the Tele continues to EXPONENTIALLY improve my skills as a guitar player, and I could never see myself without one now... no way! I could see my self with Pete's, though ...lol. I always look forward to your youtube episodes featuring that purple tone master... Thank you for posting this video, Guys!
All nice guitars....what I don’t like is the current relic everything fad going on. They just tend to look too fake to me, I prefer my guitars to age with my own time and playing put in on them. Thoughts?
Like Lee, I have difficulties changing from a Gibson to PRS or anything else. Strangely never have a problem with starting on something else then going to a Gibson. 🎶😉
I'll say what I always say: HSS Stratocaster to Rule Them All. If there's one guitar, and one only, it's almost impossible to beat as a workhorse for _any_ music style
Make it an HSS MIM with a Floyd Rose...in Pacifica blue...oh wait, it's staring at me...next to my other *also ran* 50's Squier vibe Tele...as my wife grumbles "racist swine didn't even mention our glorious Canadian Icon..Godin!"
Hi Rob and Lee, It is really great to see you together! What is interesting to me is that you both have different styles of playing When you review the tape each of you bring out the best in certain guitars. Rob you made the PRS Sing! Lee you made Ibanez sound great! The Telecaster really sound great from both of you which relates to what you said about the players influence. For me theTelecaster is first, and the Gibson is second. Thanks and Best Wishes
My thing on truss rods, The Gibson/Epiphone head stock adjustment location. The cover is a PITA to bother with, it might as well be at the base of the neck. As for my Ovation acoustic guitar, in the sound hole is pretty much the same as the Fender Strat & Tele in this video and I prefer it there, because the head stock is by far the most sculpted. If the base of the neck has an elaborate adjustment mechanism, I prefer it there, but if you have to unscrew and tilt a neck to straighten it out, then put it on the head stock like a Squier. BTW, relic'ed guitars are beaters, I prefer to mess mine up from pristine & brand new. I know you don't care, but if I wanted an old guitar, I'd certainly find a $ 50 Squier practice instrument that's seen a little stage action. Something about a cheap raw instrument that has had a random accident or two. Really, who wants a guitar that looks like wood pests have nested in, a puppy teethed or a rat has chewed on.
I was a bit disappointed that they didn't choose a "bells and whistles" type of guitar. Crazy trem, switching, modern styling, etc. Does Andertons have the Stormbender?
I'm torn between a strat and a telecaster. I want to save up for one and I really love the strat tone, specifically the out of phase, positions 2 and 4 sound, and also the neck pickup - a lot of my favourite artists and the music I would want to play is played on a strat too. However, I played a telecaster in a shop and I just loved how simple it was, there's so much beauty in something just being simple and I feel like with a tele I could play more original stuff and as said in the video it would force you to be a better player and have something to say, there was something about it I really liked which I really didn't expect.
It always come back to the Telecaster.......................There is a reason the original guitar is still very relevant even today. It was just good right from the start, and it a tool rather than a toy. Can't remember the last time I had to tune my tele, it's rock solid all day with no issues.
I've got a video idea... Let's have Rob and Lee's wives come in and pick a rig for their husbands...
Absolutely this.....brilliant idea
Awsome idea!

My picks, in order: Tele, 335, Strat, Les Paul, PRS, Ibanez
Bet that sounds bloody delicious... !!
When Lee said "Michelangelo", I instantly thought of the Ninja Turtles hahaha
I thought of myself...
But I appreciate the thought. - COWABUNGA!
Michael Angelo H. 😂😂🤘🏽
Now we just need the Shredder to play guitar.
Spend the rest on drugs and hooke... i mean ampilifier and pedals
@@mohammadfarajpour4485 they literally have the exact same effects. Instant gratification but leave you wanting more the next day!
335 and LP is killer and the Prs and ibanez . but over all LP has that middle position tone like crazy !
That Telecaster sounded absolutely amazing. I need it.
I swear...
If Andertons did a Gibson Les Paul blues breaker in black.
I would buy it.
In 5-10 years once I've saved up enough money!
Great video! Of course the key to keeping the 335 in tune is graphite in the slots and roller saddles. you will never be plagued by tuning going out. cheers!
I wasn't ready for the "truss-thing" :D
Rob playing the Les Paul 59 through the Marshall half stack is by FAR the best all-round guitar tone in this or almost any other video they do!!! That tone fits into more music than all the other guitars put together. I completely understand what the Captain was trying to say about the PRS guitar. They are accurate and 'tool like' but to the point of being somewhat soulless, unless of course, you put it into the hands of one Carlos Santana. IMHO as always...gp
I don't know what you're paying whoever edits these but it's not enough
I liked the Tele best, followed closely by the Gibsons… but I also knew that before I even heard them. Would love to hear some Rickenbacker and Gretsch guitars in the competition.
I still can't understand why some like the relic'd look so much. If I was spending over $1000 for a guitar, I want it to be damage free. Just my opinion.
Yeah I don't really understand the appeal of paying a lot of money for a guitar that looks like they ran over it with a car 5 times.
I don’t get relics at all. The issue with me is that they actually have been hit with a hammer and gouged with a screwdriver, it’s not real wear so it’s all just an illusion.
@@richtfingers It also triggers my OCD, I would have to have it refinished and restored to be happy with a relict guitar.
I weigh more without clothes 100%. Over the years, the worry of dinging my non-reliced guitars has actually made me feel more distanced from them. Relics on the other hand look even better when you bash them about it so if I inadvertently scratch or chip them I don’t care. I thus enjoy playing them more.
I guess its kind of a sleeper thing. Like no one is expecting you to shred a guitar your grandpa had in the attic.
New segment, "ANGERTONS RANTS". Lees relic rant is the first video.. For the record the Les Paul was hands down my favourite in this vid.. 👍🐨
very pleased you two have an high regard for relic'd tele, roots are good.
@@davej3736 what on earth
Great vid guys. Luv watching u guys back making content together. I was leaning towards the Les Paul bc of the sound and description.
Ok time to give Rory a raise. ...and a beach ball as a bonus of course..
Hi Rob and Lee,
It is really great to see you together!
What is interesting to me is that you both have different styles of playing
When you review the tape each of you bring out the best in certain guitars.
Rob you made the PRS Sing! Lee you made Ibanez sound great!
The Telecaster really sound great from both of you which relates to what you said about the players influence.
For me theTelecaster is first, and the Gibson is second.
Thanks and Best Wishes
What about a guthrie goven charvel
Not dad Rock enough
@@Unchainedmaple888 hahahahahahahaha
ADAM, EXACTLY!
Was thinking the same thing.
"We need something contemporary" and then Lee picks the Ibanez which looks the most like a strat...
Yeah, contempory is anything up to '62
I was a bit disappointed that they didn't choose a "bells and whistles" type of guitar. Crazy trem, switching, modern styling, etc. Does Andertons have the Stormbender?
And Mr Roberto was visibly thinking "YOU IDIOT, LEE! What about a freaking CHAPMAN for contemporary??"
Rob - " that's nothing in comparison to the force" lol @1:22
Absolutely loved the jam from about 30:00
for me I think that the 335 sounded the best!
It always come back to the Telecaster.......................There is a reason the original guitar is still very relevant even today.
It was just good right from the start, and it a tool rather than a toy.
Can't remember the last time I had to tune my tele, it's rock solid all day with no issues.
