Awesome. I knew about part 1 of the shake trick (to peel), but had never heard about part 2 (to dice)! Definitely want to try that. Hadn't heard about the 10-min water soak, either. Great stuff!
i have 2 pounds of garlic to peel for slicing and dehydrating. don't have a microwave, but looks like they don't just slide out that way. weakness in one arm so shaking 2 lbs of garlic is out. tried the soak method. 2 hours later, still have a lot to do to peel them. not cooking with them immediately so crush method is out. i have a silicon roller. gets sticky after a few so it's only good if you're going to use just a few right away.
The shaking method is definitely the easiest and fastest, but what are you going to do with all that garlic? Unless you freeze it or dehydrate it and make powder out of it, I'm kinda lost. Maybe giving some away to the neighborhood? The WHOLE neighborhood? ;)
I shake garlic in a glass jar. Also like the idea of shaking it into pieces! Sometime I smash the cloves with a can, especially if I am using tomato sauce....lol.....But, how do you store all those cloves after you've peeled them? In a glass jar?
