      Amen to that , if I was good at wording I'd have said the very same thing. That was awesome, I make alot of tools sometimes just to use once for specific job.... but I believe I'm gonna make one of these cause wife and I been eating alot of garlic for health benefits. And peeling is awful. Thanks, and Jesus bless you.

    With 30+ years of industrial maintenance experience behind me I really enjoy seeing videos of ingenuity. It is so easy these days to just purchase whatever you may need without even leaving your home. I like to see people that have an issue and then take the initiative to form and fabricate a solution. This video is a perfect example of that. Thank you for the video. It is informative as well as entertaining.

      @@Mermaidjm I wouldn't use a brand new washer, nor would I use the one we already have for laundry. But as said above, you can get a used one for very little cost. It won't even have to be hooked up to plumbing. I suspect a clothes dryer would work about the same way and you could disconnect the heating mechanism, just run the motor to tumble the garlic and knock all the peels loose. Perhaps if you left the fan in the dryer running, it would blow all the little peels out through the vent hose for you?

    • @dystopiagear6999
      @dystopiagear6999 5 років тому +2

      Since most of us don't have 2.5 acres of garlic to deal with, look around for videos about making your own small tumbler with a small motor, a bucket and a homemade stand. Usually people use them to polish rocks or put a stone-washed finished on metal parts, but it should work about the same as a washer for peeling garlic.

      Not so much laziness, but the desire to get more return from investment. If you can feed your family with less work, then you can invest that extra time in solving other problems, like heating your house with less energy, etc. If you had ever done physical work to survive, you might understand this.

And a linear bearing. I haven't quite got the container figured out. I want it removable so it can be washed. It's great to see that you've proven the distance it takes to accomplish this. Thanks for sharing this. I think the reciprocating saw approach would work if you placed the jar vertically. In that configuration, the cloves hit the bottom of the jar, are tossed up, then hit the bottom of the jar again. Over and over. You might face some weight issues in that design, but for smaller batches it could work. It’s a simpler design than the drill design and might be easier for some people.

    Well you created a QUICK RETURN SLIDER MECHANISM here.
    To be more efficient and let the garlic peel both in its forward and backward stroke, u need to make the slider move in same speeds during forward and return strokes.
    If the centre of the crank and the slider line of action is offset, u will get a quick return motion with any of one stroke being faster than the other.
    To make both the speeds identical, position the crank centre and the slider line of action in line.

    • @trwsandford
      @trwsandford 5 років тому +1

      correction, I'm an idiot. sorry for sounding insulting, I've been drinking. I just penciled it out. You are right. The return stroke is a bit faster. Pretty sure that isn't a problem in this application.
      1) bearings on all connections.( the video guy mentioned that)
      2) foot mounted electric motor with bearings designed for cyclical side loads. Nord makes a nice one.
      3) I'd recommend a belt drive to reduce motor speed
      4) With a motor as small as this I'd even put it on a VFD, the cost would be marginal.
      5) Like all reciprocating devices, it should have sufficient mass and mountings to withstand the shaking.

    • @venkatpuneeth
      @venkatpuneeth 5 років тому

      @@trwsandford According to you, if you can use some sort of overdrive pulley system, you won't need any motor. You can hand crank it and the peeler would also become some fat burning machine, since it takes only couple of seconds to peel the garlic according to the video.
      And no issues for your reply 🤩🤗😊

    I used a leaf blower to fire the garlic down some pvc pipe and into a five gallon plastic carboy with a hole cut in the side. The impact consistently broke up the peels so they could be removed easily and I faced the carboy downward to collect the cloves of garlic in a container beneath, where any stragglers could be recycled into the machine to be shot through it again if necessary. pounds of almost completely peeled garlic in minutes. I thought about adding a sluice box at the end to separate the peels (which float) from the peeled cloves (which sink) but never got that far.

    with the mason jar/jigsaw setup, you should have tried holding the contraption vertically so gravity could assist getting the cloves to the bottom where they would be struck by the bottom of the jar as it moved upward. the jigsaw would probably need to be clamped securely and the lid replaced with a disc of 1/8" steel plate. but your way is a lot more fun
