Hey friends! Help us get the word out that this 'Hack' works - please share across social media so we can show the world this amazing garlic peeling trick!
Are you going to make a video in the future on the pineapple hack where you peel off the individual tidbits one by one, by hand? :P Might be good to show how that viral sensation just isn't worth the effort.
@@GlenAndFriendsCooking I read that too, or it at least needs to be extremely ripe, would be nice to point people to a trusted resource on the matter if they ever bring it up again in the future.
You can also break the connection to the root with the palm-smash. Put the stem-end down, and slam your palm down on the root end. It'll make a pretty loud crunching sound, but the paper will prevent any of the cloves from actually squishing. This breaks the connection and lets you twist them out, too.
Thanks for this, I tried it and found a safer method to break the bottom part - instead of a knife to cut the bottom, use an apple corer - worked really well.
Wow! I just watched this, tried it and it worked first time! I also managed to do it by only severing the root of one clove, and the bit that was left attached just popped off afterwards, leaving the rest of the bulb intact. Brilliant!
Oh my god, I paused the video at about 1:00, grabbed a knife and a bulb of garlic, popped out 3 cloves in a row, worked an absolute treat! This is my new go to way, so easy, thank you!
@A G Step into my parlor said the -spider- vampire to the -fly- mortal. But no, seriously, with the amount of blood transfusions I've had, I might as well be a literal vampire.
This is already more work than what I do. Helpful if I needed to do more than a few cloves. Since I usually crush the garlic I just crush the garlic clove with the peel on and the peel will come right off. That being said. I love your videos and am always excited for new ones. Keep up the great work.
Your ideas are fantastic. I especially like that every episode you start off doing something and then are almost surprised by the camera... "Oh hello friends!". Keep it up. love your work.
Thanks, Glen (and your wife)! I don't remember seeing (if it was there) the loosening the cloves from the roots bit on the original video. That seems key. You sharing this video is quite helpful, as usual. Grazie!
And for those of us who you mentioned who steer clear of very sharp knives and hard garlic, get one of those silicone tubes to easily peel garlic. You pop the unpeeled clove in the tube, roll it on the counter a couple of times while pressing down, and shake out the peeled clove. Probably just as quick as your demo and no risk at all. Just another method. 😊 Thanks to both of you for your videos.
So happy I found this as I’m growing garlic. It will be ready to harvest in about 3 to 4 weeks. Obviously I will be storing all 110 heads in a cool dark place and making garlic powder too. The garlic I planted came from central California. Garden to table clean eating. LOVE your channel. I have made several adventures recipes to include the ginger beer and the peanut butter bread and cake. Loved the KFC ones as I grew up in Louisville Kentucky. I’m a devoted subscriber. Thank you.
Amazing! That's great. I have worked in restaurants where I have done 1000s. Wished I knew this then. Have you seen the video on You Tube on how to cut a pineapple into bite size pieces with little or no effort. Its called how to Pull Apart a Pineapple. I have tried it and it works. No knife is needed. However, it's important to have a ripe pineapple. You don't even have to deal with the core. I love your videos. Thanks.
Love that we can always learn something new, 29 years and many years around chefs in kitchens, this the first time seeing garlic being peeled like this, nice
Glen, I somehow came across your channel on a rainy day and now you’ve inspired me to cook and I love it! Please could you show us a version of an English ‘toad in the hole’ recipe? I’m intrigued to see how you do. Once again, thank you for sharing your expertise in a clear and concise manner. Love it
Toad in a hole? You mean Birdie in the Nest? Eggs in a Basket? Eggs in the Nest? Popeye? Bullseye Eggs? *Googles* Huh... Birdie in the Nest is called Toad in a Hole in some places in the states, but in the UK it literally has sausage, which actually makes bloody sense. I still don't understand why some places call a fried egg made in a cutout of a slice of bread Toad in a Hole, it's never made sense, and now having seen that the UK version uses some actual meat for the "Toad" I feel extra justified in feeling the way I do when people call Birdie in the Nest, "Toad in a Hole."
Thank you!! I was soo disappointed when it did not work for me. 😂but now it does. So I am considering you for the credit of teaching this hack. Thanks to you.
Thank you sooooo much for this cool hack!! I use quite a bit of garlic and kinda dread the peeling process.. until now! Off to find a peeling hack for ginger, lol. Thx again!! 🙌🏾
I love good tips. This garlic tip is the best one I've seen, I think, ever. Now I can toss out that silly rubber tube. Thanks Glen, this is a super duper tip...
Hi Glen, Thank You!!! I use a lot of garlic when I cook. I am from Toronto, however I travel to Europe several times a year. I have seen many methods of peeling garlic. This is one of, or perhaps the best!! Great, I subscribed so I cant wait for more!! The hat,,, yup! yup!! That's what I wear!!!!!! Cheers, Peter
I've always just gently crushed the individual pieces of garlic with something hard, say a large knife, and the paper just gets loose enough for me to peel it off without any problem, and the garlic still stays mostly intact but also broken up a bit to release the flavor. But this is also a very neat way to peel, I will try it the next time when I cook something with garlic.
Garlic life hack #2 and #3: When using a garlic press, don't remove the skin. Put the whole thing into the press. The garlic will come out as you press, the skin is left in the press and easily removed (typically comes out as you open the press again). Added bonus: press becomes a lot easier too clean. When cleaning one's hands after working with garlic, don't use hot water as it will cook the garlic on the skin. Use cold water instead and you don't have to suffer garlic smelling fingers.
Hey friends! Help us get the word out that this 'Hack' works - please share across social media so we can show the world this amazing garlic peeling trick!
I was on Twitter, until last June. My account got knackered, and I was not able to get back on it.
Are you going to make a video in the future on the pineapple hack where you peel off the individual tidbits one by one, by hand? :P Might be good to show how that viral sensation just isn't worth the effort.
My understanding is that you need a very specific variety of pineapple for that to work - If I can track one down, I'll show the difference.
@@GlenAndFriendsCooking I read that too, or it at least needs to be extremely ripe, would be nice to point people to a trusted resource on the matter if they ever bring it up again in the future.
Have you seen the one where they shake the garlic in a bowl to peel it?
I have no words, amazing. No clickbait, right to the point. This channel deserves millions of subscribers
Thank You!
Bless you for actually explaining how this madness works.
Use plastic box for food put inside garlic and shake it when it closed.
It's 100 times better way that this one.
I was so disappointed when i tried the viral video, and it worked only for the large pods, not the little ones.. but he explained well...
@@kat0197 I did just that last night and worked like a charm !
will never peal garlic any other way !
GREAT tip! TY for going through MANY heads of garlic to demonstrate exactly how to peel garlic effectively!
You can also break the connection to the root with the palm-smash. Put the stem-end down, and slam your palm down on the root end. It'll make a pretty loud crunching sound, but the paper will prevent any of the cloves from actually squishing. This breaks the connection and lets you twist them out, too.
I just pry the bulb apart then cut the root of and squeeze the top. Shoots right out.
Interesting method you explained.
Thanks for this, I tried it and found a safer method to break the bottom part - instead of a knife to cut the bottom, use an apple corer - worked really well.

Looks like youre getting ready for the vampire wars with all that garlic
As a kindred, the garlic thing is completely overblown and not true at all.
@A G Step into my parlor said the -spider- vampire to the -fly- mortal.
But no, seriously, with the amount of blood transfusions I've had, I might as well be a literal vampire.
That might explain why his wife didnt show up in this video.

Glad I stopped by. Thank you for showing me this neat way of pealing garlic
That is really a fantastic method. Thanks for showing.
Straight to the point! I love this vid and subscribed immediately in the first few seconds, just love that it has no long introduction.!!
I'm one of those weirdo's that doesn't look at twitter... so thanks for sharing :)
I didn't see it either, but I like Glen's explanation to how it works. Well done, sir.

That's exactly how I do it ! Not difficult at all that way ! 👍😉
Me too for past 10 years. But a friend said you lose a bit of the essence on to the knife and peel when you crush them.
Thank you soooo much Glen. So kind of you to share us the secret
😀
This is absolutely superb. Thank you for demonstrating this properly!

This really is life changing, thanks a lot! :)
Veeerrryyy useful/handy technique!

Absolutely brilliant!! THANK YOU!! Just confirmed on first full clove of garlic.. got 5 more to do.. but sooo simple, now, that is :-)

But what if I want to season my skin before I bake in the summer sun?
I'm a garlic lover. Doesn't bother me to have garlic in my fingers long after. Especially if it's a good meal!
If you run your hands over stainless steel when washing the smell disappears.
I'm so excited to try this!
My life is now #blessed. Please make your favorite #GarlicBread next Glen

Thank you. Already got my 30 garlic heads and going to practice :D
You just have to squish the whole bulb slightly, put it on a container with a lid then shake until all the skin falls off. No knife work required.
This, it's easy
I've tried both and this is by far the easiest way to peel garlic.
Super! Worth trying
