This is an original 1976 Holden HJ Sandman windowless panel van. A true factory XX7 Brisbane built 308ci V8, 4 speed manual Sandman. The Brisbane built cars were the only Sandman’s that were nominated using the XX7 code on their build plates to confirm they are genuine factory cars. Sandmans built at every other plant were not coded which means you have to follow a series of clues to try and prove their authenticity. This car was purchased by its current owner in Brisbane approximately 12 years ago. The car was complete but a certainly a project that required some repair and restoration. The decision was made to take the van back to bare chassis and perform a full restoration that would end up taking approx. 4 years to complete, finished in 2013. The owner stripped the chassis and replaced anything that needed attention while the body was taken up to Gympie to be professionally repaired and repainted. The car was returned to its original colour of Papaya with a slight metallic added to the paint to make it pop. Once the bodywork and paint was completed, the owner took the restored chassis up to Gympie to be mated back together with the body. Once the car returned home, it received all new rubbers, bolts etc. The car runs an original type 308ci V8 engine but not believed to be original to this car. The engine was in the car when purchased and was pulled down and inspected before given a top end rebuild and freshen up with new seals. The engine is mostly factory spec with the addition of a mild cam, 600cfm Holley carb and extractors. The engine is paired to an original type M21 4 speed manual transmission. The power is fed to the rear wheels via a 10 bolt diff with 3.08:1 gears. Power steering and power disk brakes make the Van a nice driver. The interior was all redone during the resto back to factory in black using real leather on the front seats for comfort and durability. The correct Sandman full headlining is in place and it is empty in the back like it would have been from factory without any wild fit out. The van has been used as a weekend cruiser since its restoration and was recently used in the Australian movie Swinging Safari. Holden Historical Services Report is available with the car.
