Good morning from Chicago! I’m on what I call my no nothin’ January, 😅 No spend (essentials only), no alcohol, no fast food, no going out, (it’s too cold anyway) and no sweets as I try to take off some weight. It’s a good reset period of time. I also got the AG1 greens you recommended, they taste pretty good and seem to have eliminated my cravings for sweets. Thanks Austin, love your channel and watch you daily.
Some things I do: Cook at home throughout the week. I use my brother to buy the groceries, since I cook for his kids, too. I rarely eat out. I drink from a water filter at home. I go to Sam’s Club to get gas, which is much cheaper than all the other gas stations around me. One thing I recommend, is to check any gift cards you were given, to see if there is any money left on them. I still have some funds left on gift cards from years prior. I do have Spotify and UA-cam premium, which I will keep. I am working on cutting back my Amazon purchases, and have been doing well. It is also important to keep and write down a monthly budget. Getting out of debt will be my biggest hurdle.

@jhunbn2296 Hi, my two meals per day are the only things that I need to eat, so I don't need snacks. Basically, because I consume a lot of healthy fats (olive oil organic, coconut oil and butter), I'm always full up. So much so, that on two days per week, I just eat one big meal, resulting in a 23 hour fast (until the next day). However, if I was still eating carbs/sugar, I'd get hunger songs, so that's a no no for me. I started out with three meals per day, but in the end, my original six hour eating window meant that I was too stuffed to eat the middle meal - hence two meals per day. I never had to do this, but if you're struggling with hunger, get fat adapted and build up to more fat. If you have a sweet tooth, look into making fat bombs. I made my own in the early days, consisting of sugar free peanut butter and coconut oil. I hope that helps.

From someone who works in dental office: Both toothpastes you mentioned use sodium monoflourophosphate. Both are a "safer" fluoride options and won't stain the teeth. I see a lot of people with fluorosis. I live in a LARGE city and have seen it all (ugh) . Your teeth a fantastic looking, great job :) . I use the whitening one 1x a month, the 1.99 on the other days with a sonicare (I've had the same one for 10+ years).
No spend January has been going well for me so far. The only hiccup is my son asked if we could get a cat named Rainbow. That was a request I wanted to say yes to because I’d love a fur family member 🥹
Eating out is a habit. We had to eat out a lot after the hurricane as we had no power for several days which meant since we are on a well we had no water. Then we fell back into the eating out habit. And I don’t like to eat out but sometimes I just don’t feel like cooking and cleaning. For awhile, I was trying to decide if I was going to keep my large chest freezer or not. I did finally restock and used the holiday sales to stock up on stuff. So now I’m breaking the habit of eating out again. Haven’t watched the entire video yet but I’m going to try and quit my soda habit. I figured out how much we spend on soda a year and it’s astronomical. It’s really ridiculous.
We are eating out a lot less. It's crazy expensive to eat out. My sister and her husband are staying here, so we take turns preparing dinner. Processed foods are a super rare thing. I'm decluttering the unnecessary items from my home. It's a long way to go, but we are weeding out the excess. Credit card debt is necessary if you shop on Amazon. I'm cutting out Amazon...very very intentional spending. My home gym is second hand equipment. My dog has plenty of toys. She has a nice steel bowl. Our last couple dogs used the same bowl. Our fruit farm is 5 hours away. When we go there, we are spending more time, but going fewer times. I make most of my cleaning products. I dont buy paper products. We have a bidet for our downstairs bathroom. We rarely use the upstairs bathroom, so it has tp. I bought a huge case of tp prior to covid. We still have it.
I have a small cream colored doodle. I am always telling her if I think it is cold outside and I want her to go outside without me. I don’t think she understands because she has a beautiful fur coat that she wears all the time😂
One tip, if you like sweets, you really should consider a fluoride mouthwash now. My dentist says a fluoride toothpaste is not sufficient if you eat any sugar. I learned this way too late. I am always impressed but amazed at your frugality. I couldn't live like this for sure!
Please consider the light up collar as a purchase for february if you leave your house with your dog during the dark at all. Yes, even when she's on a leash at all times. It makes it way easier for drivers, bikers and pedestrians to see her and can prevent accidents.
I work with dogs. Dogs need things to chew. For their mental health. Especially young dogs, including young adult dogs. Some dogs are big chewers forever, it’s a personality thing. Chewing relieves stress and is biologically appropriate for them. They can chew on sticks for free (check their upper palette and gums for small bits of stuck bits once a week) but if you buy them dried tendons it’s very good for their teeth. My dogs lived to 14 and 16 and didn’t need dental care at the vet. Dogs also benefit from a rubber toy and stuffed animals to play with/chew/groom. A Kong stuffed with peanut butter and frozen is a good activity for a dog, especially if you go out for a long time or cut your walks short because it’s raining. Tennis balls are actually bad for dogs, the very extreme dyed hairs get stuck in their intestines and don’t biodegrade and collect bacteria. One doesn’t need to ban them outright but a rubber ball is much healthier. Make sure it has 2 small holes one on each side so it doesn’t get stuck to their tongue when you’re out, that’s a very dangerous situation that you do not want to google, it’s too sad. You’re right, very few dogs need a jacket in 40 degree weather. Many breeds have little fur on their bellies though. Old dogs with arthritis benefit a lot by keeping their hip joints warm. Sometimes people don’t want their dogs to get wet, fair enough, though I would force mine to walk in the rain instead of giving them a bath sometimes.
I agree with you regarding you tube premium, I have done exactly the same, as I get more value from you tube music and watching wonderful people like you ... without ads . 👍♥️

My husband and I decided to try to stick to a no buy until July. I didn’t want to commit to a year because that could set us up for failure. Lol 😆 I went through our bank statements from December 2nd 2024 to January 4th 2925 and we spent $1,227.00 dining out. This included fast food, dining out and take out. I was shocked that we had spent that amount of money eating out. No more! We are starting a budget and only eating out on weekends and this will be for either Saturday or Sunday but not both. No more buying holiday decor, coffeehouses or things we do not need. We canceled Amazon Prime, Netflix and Peacock. We are no longer buying liquid fabric softener, dryer sheets or soda. We will limit ourselves to one (weekend only) trip a year. If we travel no souvenirs-pictures and memories only. No pedicures or manicures but we will get hair cuts every 2-3 months. I can’t wait to reach our goal of saving success!
As a 39 year old, full time worker, father of 3 living in Canada, buying some gym equipment is a must. Just a few kettlebells and a rower machine, though.
Do NOT say "Jeez," for that is a euphemism for Jesus, and you are you are cursing Jesus. Jesus is NOT a CURSE WORD! JESUS IS THE LORD! I LOVE YOU, JESUS! I LOVE YOU BECAUSE YOU FIRST LOVED ME! THANK YOU, JESUS, FOR LOVING ME! THANK YOU, JESUS, FOR SAVING ME! HALLELUJAH! AMEN!
I have a "staples" list of things i always buy, like groceries, TP, etc. If i stumble on a sale of one of these items i will pick up half a dozen extras. It's good to maintain a list of staples and what you paid for them because some items will be cheaper seasonally so you can stock up on them then. I do have an amount of "wild card" money on the groceries so each week i can mix it up a bit and prevent food boredom.
The thing about paper towels is they cost like $1 each and depending on your usage, you might go through 1 every week or 2. They can be helpful in a pinch for something that's gonna end up costing you $50 or less every year.
When I buy things online I go to Walgreens and deposit the cash for the total of the purchases into my Chime account. So that way I still have the physical connection to money.
Loved the Wicked ending…💚💚💚Happy New Year Austin! Found your channel few weeks ago and i am currently binge watching all your videos and learning SO MUCH!!! Lots of love from London. ❤❤❤
Paper towels aka kitchen paper. Husband and I live in a motorhome, so we have to go to the launderette about every 7 to 10 days. I can't have greasy or pooey rags lying around. Teatowels are for drying the dishes, but a frying pan I dry with a paper towel and I clean the cassette toilet bowl and surrounding areas with a paper towel. I use good quality non bleached eco.
Im not starting till February. I'm currently stalking the Internet to finish lower the rest of my legally mandatory bills (insurances). $5 Tello for cell phone & no subscription anything. Almost there.😂
Restaurants, that’s the big one. When my wife and I went frugal back in 2020 was the first cut we did and after realizing how much it was costing us we never really went back. We do eat out on special occasions but nowhere near once a month.
Well, some dogs have hair and need the jacket as they live more north, like in Canada. 😂 i would love to see your reaction to harness puffer jackets and vests and suspender boots 😮
I used to have multiple subscriptions but at the end of the year I’ve cancelled them and only kept Netflix. I also downgraded to the cheaper version. I don’t watch that much and I don’t really need 4k and dolby audio. Figured it saves a lot of money.
I don't like eating out so I don't, I don't buy decorations, got white washcloths and use them for paper towels , no cable, books,or magazines. Been doing this for years.
Depending on your grocery costs, energy levels for cooking dinner after a long workday/week (dont forget cleanup!!! too)...TIME is more precious than money and I'm not suffering each evening to save a few extra dollars...nope
This video is a game-changer! So much helpful information packed into one clip. I personally don't like promoting anything in comments, but I simply have to share with you a book called The Gilded Nexus of Prosperity, that book changed my approach to money, the methods in that book are impressive
I am very guilty of being lured by sale items. I think companies recognize this and jack up prices knowing that most people are never going to buy it at full price and are much more likely to be enticed by 25% off, or what have you. Before the holidays I saw many clothing companies touting "everything 40% off" -- and yet they're still making a profit!
I’m posting comment while I’m watching. Let me check my BAD Habits! 1. I eat Chick-Fil-A about once a month. Sometimes 2. 2. I seldom by cheese. 3. I don’t buy those. I need a jacket. 15. I have no streaming services. I live a boring life. 12. I cancelled UA-cam Premium. 13. I have to stop buying bags. Thanks Augustin.
I really can’t let go of paper towels. I have tried, and I’ve definitely cut down, but I am an artist and (oil) paint messes don’t go in the washing machine. Also for draining food paper towels work far better than cloth. back in the day when we used to get paper newspapers, I would use those for draining food, but don’t get them anymore. Sad face.
I bought a bunch of parts for my car and truck that need to be fixed like ball joints and other worn out parts Is that a bad purchase? I haven't splurged on any luxury items but i still feel bad about these purchases cause it was alot of money
I like to travel and spend my money now while I am physically able. Some people save all their money, hoping to travel when they retire. They age to mid 60's and catch a debilitating illness and apend all their savings on medicine. Their sreams of traveling goes out the door... What good is your money then? It's smart to save, but don't let saving stop you from traveling, dining, and taking your kids out on trips.
I decided not to buy clothes in January. I might buy some shoes, but no other type of wear. I might eat out a little bit more than I would like to due to me starting hybrid work.

This one is really funny. And there’s singing! 🎉
I don’t think she understands because she has a beautiful fur coat that she wears all the time😂
How have you been, Austin? I always look forward to your videos ❤
Great! Thanks for your support!
One tip, if you like sweets, you really should consider a fluoride mouthwash now. My dentist says a fluoride toothpaste is not sufficient if you eat any sugar. I learned this way too late. I am always impressed but amazed at your frugality. I couldn't live like this for sure!
Fluoride is a neurotoxin. No fluoride
Fluoride is nasty, though. It's time to start searching for alternatives.
I got me a $30 hair trimmer and save $35 a trip to Supercuts
I moved from Chicago to Southern California 10 yrs ago and let me tell you!!!! You will feel bad for judging the locals for wearing winter gear.
Also, can’t wait for the upcoming content.
Also, love your channel. Ur one of my favs.
Great video! Happy New Year, Austin!
$3.00 for a candy bar? Jeez, I remember when they were 10 cents. Dang, I’m old. Glad I don’t eat them anymore 😂
HALLELUJAH! AMEN!
I think buying dog jackets is actually really cute and practical for cold days! But totally get the minimalist approach.
Love your videos! 💜
Your videos never disappoint. 🎉😊
The thing about paper towels is they cost like $1 each and depending on your usage, you might go through 1 every week or 2. They can be helpful in a pinch for something that's gonna end up costing you $50 or less every year.
He ain't gettin' my stinkin' paper towels!
Thanks Austin for all of your advice ! Everything you put out is so helpful ! Happy New Year to you ! 🎉🎊🎉
When I buy things online I go to Walgreens and deposit the cash for the total of the purchases into my Chime account. So that way I still have the physical connection to money.
It should be interesting to hear the results of your experiment to buy more w/cash than a credit card. Looking forward to your results report in Feb.
I have never had streaming. But if I give up and decide to have streaming, your approach is exactly what I will do.
Loved the Wicked ending…💚💚💚Happy New Year Austin! Found your channel few weeks ago and i am currently binge watching all your videos and learning SO MUCH!!! Lots of love from London. ❤❤❤
Glad you got it! I can't get those songs out of my head. "Dancing though life!"
@ Ahah, do not try to get them out!!…lots of great lessons there… 🎶 stop studying strife and learn to live the unexamined (frugal) life 🎵 … 💃✨
Oh wow. I didnt know that about mouthwash. Thanks for sharing
since i started carnivore diet I havent bought any processed package food. its just so unhealthy. im already going on 4 years now
As an animal lover , your dog is adorable 🥰
She is!
Almost there.😂
5:00 Start contribute to the household's overall joy 💪
Restaurants, that’s the big one.
When my wife and I went frugal back in 2020 was the first cut we did and after realizing how much it was costing us we never really went back.
We do eat out on special occasions but nowhere near once a month.
Bulk candy is crazy! Horrible for your health!😢
❤ your channel!
Thanks!
We keep "Alexa" in a box, lol. "She" only comes out when we watch the Fire TV. Which isn't very often. It mostly stays unplugged.
Well, some dogs have hair and need the jacket as they live more north, like in Canada. 😂 i would love to see your reaction to harness puffer jackets and vests and suspender boots 😮
Look at periogen and interdental brushes - gums will ❤ you. Also the best cleaner: ammonia 20% and dishwashing liquid 10% mixed with water 70%
Are the brushes better than floss, in terms of being better for gum health?
Great great great Austin :)
No new clothes, no space and a waste of money
I used to have multiple subscriptions but at the end of the year I’ve cancelled them and only kept Netflix. I also downgraded to the cheaper version. I don’t watch that much and I don’t really need 4k and dolby audio. Figured it saves a lot of money.
I don't like eating out so I don't, I don't buy decorations, got white washcloths and use them for paper towels , no cable, books,or magazines. Been doing this for years.
I'm simply not buying anything that isn't a necessity now. We had to replace our toilet already this year, Happy New Year to us LOL!
Paper towel isn't entirely bad such as the blue colored shop towel sold at Costco, as it is washable and is good for multiple uses.
I am not buying stock up items this month. I have plenty of stock for this month.
Depending on your grocery costs, energy levels for cooking dinner after a long workday/week (dont forget cleanup!!! too)...TIME is more precious than money and I'm not suffering each evening to save a few extra dollars...nope
You can also thrift gym equipment I’ve found great high brand gym equipment
This video is a game-changer! So much helpful information packed into one clip. I personally don't like promoting anything in comments, but I simply have to share with you a book called The Gilded Nexus of Prosperity, that book changed my approach to money, the methods in that book are impressive
I used some techniques from that book to make money, and I can truly say I'm earning more now
I'll buy you dinner for this recommendation
I know about that book, my father told me about it
Lol bots
I am very guilty of being lured by sale items. I think companies recognize this and jack up prices knowing that most people are never going to buy it at full price and are much more likely to be enticed by 25% off, or what have you. Before the holidays I saw many clothing companies touting "everything 40% off" -- and yet they're still making a profit!
That wasn't obvious before, but indeed, if you're ready to buy the item at full price why bother chasing sales?
I’m posting comment while I’m watching. Let me check my BAD Habits!
1. I eat Chick-Fil-A about once a month. Sometimes 2.
2. I seldom by cheese.
3. I don’t buy those. My wall is BARE.

5. Goodbye Amazon

7. I no longer have a dog.
8. I love to Travel. I cannot do extra traveling.
9. Sale is NOT my weaknesses.

12. I cancelled UA-cam Premium.
13. I have to stop buying bags.
Thanks Augustin.
Ww^w
I really can’t let go of paper towels. I have tried, and I’ve definitely cut down, but I am an artist and (oil) paint messes don’t go in the washing machine. Also for draining food paper towels work far better than cloth. back in the day when we used to get paper newspapers, I would use those for draining food, but don’t get them anymore. Sad face.
Same here. I have to have them.
Hey, i crushed No buy months since Oktober Last year ;).
All in Depot
Im not doing great on my no spend January 😂
I bought a bunch of parts for my car and truck that need to be fixed like ball joints and other worn out parts Is that a bad purchase? I haven't splurged on any luxury items but i still feel bad about these purchases cause it was alot of money
Not at all. IMO maintenance is essential. I had to spend quite a bit solving a misfire early into this month. @@jonathna11
Bad!
Same, damn semi annual sales!!!!
It’s hard to spend a lot of money riding on a Dallas Dart bus!
If those processed foods are in our house we will eat them.ElAugustin- you’ve been a little naughty with your food!!😂😂😂So, have I - and with my medical problems- I Really- shouldn’t!. A couple of years ago around Christmas, Georgia was very cold, not normal but - it was cold!🥶🥶🥶
I legit have FOUR baskets of dog toys lol...i do have nearly every toy i have gotten my past 2 dogs for the last 23 yrs though, but this dog i have definitely bought him way more than i should lol..hes a pomeranian and he does love getting new toys 😂
Star is a 🌟 ❤

I don't want to eat outside alone this year. Either I'm eating with someone or I will cook at home. :D
Planet fitness is $15 now
I saw that. They kept existing customers at $10. My guess is that if they alerted people their membership was going up, they'd cancel and their business model is to get people to sign up and forget about it.
You said no more packaged food. Then in the next slide you’re going to buy Starburst(a candy banned in some countries because of the ingredients) in BULK????🤣🤣🤣👀
And that's my plan!
You can't beat Planet Fitness! It's totally worth it...yeah, it's not 'high end' BUT you don't need 'high end'!
Spotify premium also gives you access to podcasts and select audiobooks.
UA-cam msuic gives you podcasts too...but no audiobook.
I’m eating all the canned food I have on hand. Sardines, salmon, chicken, etc.
Dude, it seemed like you were *STRESS eating* ... I get that too but it's with *sweets*
I stopped my AMC A-Lister membership and UA-cam Premium subscription 😭
Now is a good time to buy a pair of quality running shoes, you can get last year’s models for cheap.
