I just finished this pillow tonight, and I used a thin #4 weight (US) cotton yarn held double in blue. It looks amazing! Thank you so much for an excellent tutorial! Mine worked up to fit a 18"x18" pillow. Thanks again Tuula! 🙂
thank you so much for sharing. your instructions are very clear and easy to understand. I am new at crocheting when I saw your cushion I thought there was noooo way I could even think of making anything like it. but thanks to your easy to follow instructions I actually think I could make one. I cannot wait to try this
Ma’am this is fabulous! so easy to understand and follow. Thank you for the multiples and working in the round. Much easier than the smaller basket weave. My son has asked for a pillow in this stitch. 😃
Thank you very much for this video plus the one explaining the pattern in all detail! I JUST finished this pillow as my first one ever and I used your video intensely and kept getting back to it especially for the first few rows to make sure I did things correctly. Very helpful!!! I am a beginner. The yarn I used is very similar to the one you used. But I have to admit that yarn nearly drove me insane as the small threads that form the one main thread kept seperating from each other and my hook kept getting somewhere in between the small threads......I bet this is a typical beginner-problem :-) !! So this did tun into a bit of a challenge for me :-) But this is the best way to learn, I guess ;) And so I kept at it and am now the proudest owner of this kind of pillow-case there is! It will have a specieal place on my couch! All the Best from Germany!
So glad you got it done! 💗 Yes, this type of yarn can be hard if you haven't crocheted much yet because it splits. But now you have much more experience in crochet! Enjoy your cushion!
That’s gorgeous. If you use a brown and a gold it would look like a Louis Vuitton cushion 😊❤. Anyway, your cushion is beautiful. I think I’ll try n make it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love the pattern and your explanations Tuula. I've not been crotcheting long and ready for a new challenge. Can you help with more details about the yarn? What width is the yarn please? My husband, who is a boatmaker thinks it is 4mm? How much yarn did you need? Any substitute yarn recommendations in UK? Thank you so much
Glad you like it! The yarn I used is not available in UK but the closest I would see in Woolwarehouse is this chunky cotton www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/yarn/dmc-natura-xl-all-colours. It's hard to say about the width of the yarn, they are normally counted in metres per 50 grams. This one is chunky, only 35 metres. The cushion gets very heavy, it took 800 grams of yarn. I hope this helps!
@@tsionaheffes3538 Then you need to work in a completely different way, I would do it back and forth so you wouldnend up with so many yarn ends. Also the front and back post would work differently in the wrong side rows. Or you xould make each square separately and at the end sew or crochet the squares together.
You would need to measure how many squares will go for the width of it. The actual way you make it is otherwise the same. Trust you will enjoy making it!
The best way for that is to hand-sew a zipper at one end. Although I opened the stitches on one of these to change the cushion inside, so that is one possibility. To sew loosely to unpick the stitches easily. But a zipper is less work on the long run.
Great you are making one! The cushion in the video was made in worsted weight yarn, using hook 5 mm. This yarn is cotton so it depends what material your yarn is how much takes but approx. I used 600 meters (around 650 yards).
Hi there Lovely pattern - do you carry on using front post then back post for four rounds and then go to back post to front post ? It’s not entirely clear
Either you would sew a zip on it or, like I'm doing with that one, sewing it using long stitches that are easy to unpick and redo when you need to remove the inner cushion. If your yarn or the place are such that it needs to be washed often then I would use a zip.
I am confused on where I am going wrong. I started with 80 chains in the foundation chain and then half trebled into each of those but on the next row I end up with 3 stitches between the last set of 8 and the first of that row, which obviously are not enough to make a square. If i did the stitches would just make the first or last square 3 stitches too long. I dont know how to correct it, i have started from scratch so many times and end up with the same problem.
I have to be special. I’ve been sat here for good 3-4 hours messing up on the first two rounds. I chain 32 at the start and by the time I’m done making all of the treble crochets I’ve either got 31 or 33 treble crochets. I’ll get 33 and go back to the chain and remove one then I’ll end up with 31 so then I’ll go back and add an extra one and end up with 33. Why does crochet have to be so hard 😢
What I sometimes do I just make a chain that is a bit longer than needed and only count stitches on the first row or round, and if there are extra, then undo those later on.
Unfortunately I have no idea where to get it there. If you can order from abroad, you can check Amazon. But you may have to pay customs so it would be better to see if it is available online in your own country.

This looks lovely, I’m going to give it a go, I’m a beginner, but you explained it very simply. You have filled me with confidence.😜thank you.
Wonderful! It is simple after you get used to it, and then just repeating the same!
Hello Tuula
This is a marvellous cushion. Thank you.

Me quedo clarito chh
Lindo trabalho ,vou tentar fazer não deu pra saber quantas correntes pra começar.
I had 96 chain stitches to start with. Needs to be in multiples of 16 (8+8).
It's easy to understand.Thanks
Great, thank you!
Awesome
So beautiful!! If I want to do it with more than one colour how can I do?! Thks!!
Do you mean different colours in rows or each square different, those techniques are very different?
Every square in different color!!

Maravilhoso.Obrigada.😘♥️
Hi, may I use a yarn 4-5 mm acrylique ? Or it needs a bigger yarn ?
You can use thinner yarn but then you need more squares and also it will look different, not this chunky look. But it can look good that way too!
@@TuulaMaaria Yes it will not be such chunky... ok thanks :)
Hello ! Would I have to do anything different with the pattern for a pillow that is a rectangle? it’s measurements are 12” by 16 inches.
You would need to measure how many squares will go for the width of it. The actual way you make it is otherwise the same. Trust you will enjoy making it!
Thank you!
I want to make this cushion, but want to be able to take it off to wash it. How would you do this please.x

Thanks mam
hai there i know this is a really old video, but im making a gift for my mom! I have a question, how much yarn do i need to use? what's the weight?

Hi there

Yes, you need to alternate. Did you check the actual tutorial video, hope it is more clear ua-cam.com/video/S6L79gzaqkE/v-deo.html
Many thanks ! Really excited to get going 😊
Very nice...
so how do you remove the cushion insert to change it or wash?
Either you would sew a zip on it or, like I'm doing with that one, sewing it using long stitches that are easy to unpick and redo when you need to remove the inner cushion. If your yarn or the place are such that it needs to be washed often then I would use a zip.
Perfect,thanks✩✩

Can I use velvet to make a cushion cover?
Yes, that would work as well! Would look beautiful!
Hi, what are they multiples of , if i need for 50 cm
It's in multiples of 16 stitches. That gives you one of each squares so you don't end up with 2 same ones next to each other.
Where to buy the yarn for this cushion
I live in Malaysia
Unfortunately I have no idea where to get it there. If you can order from abroad, you can check Amazon. But you may have to pay customs so it would be better to see if it is available online in your own country.
You can buy from shopee or lazada...there's many yarn shops as well.
How make to tools crochet cover
You could use the same idea, just measure the item it is going on.

96. You get that in the video at 6:40.

Definitely easier to make it look neat when you make it in the round!
