Apologies for my lack of energy in the video. Just a combination of me being tired from Christmas and not enjoying the episode. Problem is you can't rerecord first time reactions lmao

Is silly, is cheesy and weird...but is a Christmas special. I love it.

Hmm. I get what you mean about the year-with-Anita being a bit confusing thematically- like how it's supposed to fit and be relevant to the rest of the story. Apparently she was supposed to have just a few lines but they liked what the actress did so much they expanded the part. FWIW I think the idea was that the Doctor was alone and lonely but not acknowledging it... hence the lack of chairs in the TARDIS and his hint of insight into that. The year with Anita taught him about connection and not being alone blah blah... then when he got back to the "present" in the Time Hotel with Joy he was able to work out hot to break the conditioning i.e. a year in that hotel room to think about her and about how being *with* someone feels, enabled him to see that she was hiding a lot of pain and he could break her away from the suitcase/ star-seed... and then she was able to *choose* to go back to it and resolve the story.
I think what *was* really missing was something establishing that because Joy was able to break out of the conditioning and then could CHOOSE to go back to the star-seed voluntarily, she was able to control it and so would take it up into the sky and avoid killing loads of people and collected the other consciousnesses together into a hive-mind-community and radiated the joy that she got from being able to connect again with her mother and keep her word that she'd see her again. The turing into fairy dust was people dying but also being uploaded into the star-seed afterlife consciousness (def a Moffat trope but a good one)- that's what Joy then did for her mum at the point of her death. Instead of dying with strangers in a hospital from covid, she was taken up into a star with her daughter and a bunch of other consciousnesses.
That could have been made clearer I think. Much clearer.
Tbh I enjoyed it. I just like Moffat's diaglogue and the ideas. And Ncuti seemed much more comfortable in the role- really felt like it was his now. MASSIVELY looking forward to S2. Sorry you didn't vibe with this one.

I normally enjoy your reactions but this one came across as you had missed a months worth of your Sertraline medication.

Yeah that's fair. Was really tired. I would've got more excited if I enjoyed the episode tho

@@murkanium4 I enjoyed it, it made me laugh, cry, gasp and smile. It was clever and subtle but I imagine I would of not of enjoyed it as much if I had been to tired to notice them. I was so focused I even noticed a nod to "MR Ben" a very old British children's tv show, LOL.

I agree it was a shit episode as a Dr. Who fan i was embarrassed by it particulary the jesus scene which was just over the top they seem to have forgotten what "Dr. Who" is all about i was never really a fan of Moffat's other than the Capaldi era.

No you’re missing nothing. It was just recycled stale Moffatisms for an hour with absolutely minus plot, threat or character. Instead it was just filled with cringe 2020 references 4 years too late and enough smaltzy sentimentality to take down Santa’s sleigh and kill the populace below.

Lmao. I need to rewatch moffat's era. Is this what moffat haters see his era as being like?

@@murkanium4 I looooooved Series 5 but I think it’s success boosted Moffat’s ego and he doubled down on everything and so Series 6 is where the rot set in and the whole series has been on a downward trajectory since.

@ sorry you hit the buffers by the end of season 5. Personally, I thought the whole Moffat era was superior to the whole RTD1 era (and I liked that era as well) so for me, the rot set in when Whittaker was cast as the Doctor and Chibnall came on board as showrunner.
It is my belief that the many fans who disliked the Whittaker/Chibnall era (and voted with their TV remotes to switch it off) brought about the low ratings which in turn forced the BBC to reach out for RTD to return.
With RTD2 back at the helm, the show went from bad to worse (with even lower ratings than the Whittaker era) and will no doubt continue to decline further under the leadership of RTD2 and the insipid Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor
