A brick? Back then over four decades ago, I carried F2A + MD + BP + 70-200 f/2.8 + Metz hammerhead flash + external lead acid battery pack and a backup SLR.

Great vid, nice to see the channel shout outs too. I just want to mention Jules Vuoto's photo focus, and Brian's photo show - two of the best channels with super interesting and in depth content about classic Nikon gear.
Cheers, keep enjoying your F2, I love mine; I shoot it alongside an F and they are both just sublime.

Wonderful video Paolo, I have a couple of F2's and love them dearly, their weight and 1970's industrial design give them enormous charm and are a delight to use and even just handle. Your video was a marvellous walk down memory lane for me. I spent a day in Manila's Intramuros with my Filipino wife exploring and soaking up the history of this place. It left an indelible mark on my soul. Especially the war memorial.

Liked your historical perspective on the beginnings of the Nikon F. I was around at that time and realized that the slr was a definite improvement over the rangefinder system in a variety of ways. The RF was limited in range of lens choices to somewhere between about 28mm and 100mm since the parallax issues and focus issues made it impractical at either extreme. The new through the lens exposure measurements in the slr was also superior because it only measured what the lens saw no matter what lens was installed. As time went on, the choices of longer and wider lenses opened up new photographic possibilities. The big advantage of the rangefinder system was smaller and lighter cameras and the closeness of the lens to the film plane produced sharper images. The new mirrorless cameras have returned that advantage to photography since the mirror box and vibration issues have been eliminated while retaining all the advantages of thru the lens exposure control, smaller size and weight and now electronic shutters. The F2 is the happy point in Nikon history where the last best all mechanical slr was offered. The only use of the battery is to feed the exposure meter. It is a small improvement over the F otherwise with a hinged back, 1/2000th shutter speed option, and a better choice of meters that bridge the ability to use non Ai as well as Ai and AiS lenses.

Good vid. Some great shots at the end. Have used F2s forever ……… they just work…… industrial design classics …… especially with pre-Ai lenses. The 35mm f 3.5 is a peach.

I have the Canon Ftb and the F1, so I feel you when you meant literally strapping on a brick on your shoulders as a photo walk workout 😂. I even train my neck to get used to it and just suck it up and be manly lmao.
Still saving up for a Nikon F2 tho! HAHAHHAHAH
Ps. Your content is amazing and completely underrated! It's nice to see passionate film photographers in the Philippines, let alone a youtuber film shooter?? What a gold mine! Keep them videos coming!

You get used to it eventually, but I rly notice it whenever I switch to my other cameras 😅 It's really a hefty beast, but that's just because of its quality!
There are tons of amazing film cameras to choose from! I'm still hoping to try out a bunch including maybe the Canon F1 too! Hope you get to shoot more and keep shooting! 😄
Anyway, thanks so much for this!! This really means a lot! 😅

very nice video and love your explanation and though about F2. After getting myself 2 F2, i end up getting 1 F3HP and i must say i still love F2 on its design and the mechanical feel. The F3 is very nice and easy to use but F2 is so much fun to shoot with. Try Nikomat/Nikkormat FTN if you want something lighter and cheap. It is very affordable, fully mechanical and very nicely design.

It seems to me that anyone on UA-cam who likes mechanical cameras HAS to make the claim that being non-electronic and reliant on batteries is such a relief of such a huge burden. I for one am quite tired of such nonsense. I support my point of view with a couple of salient facts. One, is it really a burden to carry one or two SR44 batteries? How is this even worth mentioning? If you are on a "mission" to capture images with this or any other camera, you plan in advance and bring a couple of spare batteries! This is less than the weight and volume of pocket change. What happens when you run out of film? You make sure to bring a spare roll. What do you do with digital when your card fills up? You make sure to bring a spare memory card. Why are batteries for these cameras any different? Two, much has been made about the frailty of early electronics and how prone they are to failure. Funny but not anyone who I have read or heard to make this claim has been able to say they have direct experience with this. I have over 2 dozen vintage film cameras, from mechanical manual focus to some of the last autofocus film bodies made (Canon and Nikon). I have had these for years and not had one failure due to faulty electronics. Can and will it happen? Given enough time, absolutely. But it hasn't happened yet, and I don't expect it for some time. The rate of failure is not anywhere near the level of hype it receives. However, if you believe this claim and buy into it, you definitely miss out on experiencing some truly great cameras systems. Also, I believe you have the F2 Photomic which is what I have. I really like the exposure display as well and definitely prefer it over the later SPD prisms. Our prism uses older CDS (Cadmium Sulfide) metering technology, but has that better display. Happy shooting!
