  • I got my first set of Falken Wildpeak tyres in late 2018. I've since fitted them to three more 4x4s including the Dream Tourer, the Range Rover and my current Troopy. These are my conclusions.

Nice review. That is why I always run one tire line - BFG K02 - on all my Land Cruisers since the early 1990s. Not saying they are the best tire. They just provide me solid and consistent service for my purposes for 30 years. Glad you have had similar experience with the Falkens.

I have the Falken Wildpeak AT3W on my 2017 Discovery and I drive A LOT! The first year I owned the car I put about 22,000 miles on it. I LOVE the tires. I've been in snow up deeper snow, mud, rock, sand, river crossing, long long highway trip on pavement and they track sooo sooo well. I will most likely get them again.

Their AT3W are popular as a year-round tire here in Canada. Not as good as a true winter, but one of the better all terrain tires in the winter.

Agreed. In Calgary I have K02 on 2 vehicles, and a set of at3w on the 3rd. Id say they’re about the same in performance. The k02s looks much nicer from the side imo

After running 4 sets of KO2’s on two different vehicles; then switching to Falken AT3W’s, there’s no comparison IMO. The Wildpeak’s outperform the KO2’s on snow and ice. They also lasted much longer. Better ROI. I’m done testing tires and will stick with Falken on all my vehicles. Should mention I have had 3 sets of Wildpeak’s on two vehicles. Currently running 35’s on my truck.

Have to agree. I've been running at3w on my pathfinder since I got in 2019. Best single purchase so far. I've only lost traction once, and that was on a steep hill with rain, 2 wheel drive fully loaded. Road noise, no issue at all. Punctures not once yet, 40,000km everything but snow and sand. And the look good

I have used the complete opposite end of falken’s product range, their extremely performance track tires. The common theme with the brand is that they a catering towards the “enthusiast”. I have heard of stores of tires that had manufacturing defects but falken always made the situation right. I am looking forward to getting new sets of their a/t tires for my 4Runner and Chevy 2500 to replace oem equipment that is just sub par.
Keep up the great videos, I hope falken reaches out to you, from the reps I have met an track events they are wonderful people to work with.✌️

I have been running the Wildpeak AT3s on my Amarok for a couple of years now. They have performed absolutely great 👍 both in rocks, gravel, rain and snow ❄️ the only situation where they struggled for grip was on pavement with packed ice - but to be fair only a studded tyre will perform well in that situation..

I’ve been running the at3w for a couple years now. Almost 50,000 miles in the south east US. We have deep mud and slick river rock on our trails. I’ve been buried up to the frame in my 2 door Jeep jk and have been able to claw my way out. I plan on switching to the mud terrain next set. They have been an amazing tire. 50k on them with tons of life left.

If she doesn't go offroad and you want something decent and safe for winter driving, why not fit winter tires?
Winter tires from reknown manufacturers are magnitudes better in winter conditions than any allterrain you can find.
As a european the fixation on all terrain tires for onroad use throughout the year is a mystery to me. (they are worse than summer tires for half a year on road and are worse than winter tires the other half of the year, and aren't much better than running winter tires during summer on road.)

Thanks for the thoughtful review. My Jeep Rubicon JL Unlimited came with Falken MTs on it. Yes, pavement wet grip / ice grip is not the greatest. But this vehicle lives on a Wisconsin farm and spends a lot of its life in low range, with diffs locked: off road, sand, dirt, rock, mud, deep snow, over logs, the tires are pretty unstoppable. Zero punctures, so my plug/compressor kit sits in the back, virginal, unused, but ready. Wear? Can’t tell yet … got about 35k miles on ‘em and I’d say they’re good for another 20-30k. (but likely won’t) consider replacing them with ATs when the time comes, just for on-road noise reduction … I’ve rented several Jeeps with ATs in western U.S. - in e.g. Death Valley, and they’re MUCH quieter on paved road than are the MTs. But then again, I’ve never gotten stuck while on pavement; I’ll trade on-road quiet to get off road traction most any day!

Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws in LT285/70R17 C came OEM on my Jeep JTR. Loved em. When I went to 35 x 12.5 R17 E I went with em again. Once again love em. From pavement to beach sand to mountain mud and rocks, they’ve been great. And they have been very good in the snow in the mountains. They actually deserve the 3PMSF rating. Prefer the load range E- bit stronger and I don’t mind more of a “truck” ride. I may never buy a different tire again. Lol

I have the AT3s on a Prado 18", very happy with them. Quieter and more wet grip then the BFs on road and probably the same or better off road, and have favorable reviews on snow. It is also a daily driver. Going to try some Mickey T A/Ts on 17" rims we have for more difficult offroad trips soon, also heard good things from people I trust.

Happy with my Falken AT3W’s on my 200 series (33”), 5 years 55k km. Had one stake last year off road at Cashmere Downs on the north side of Lake Barlee, fitted a single plug, then climbed Mt Forrest and Mt Elvire and it is still going. Also changed out my factory-fitted spare for the same Falken tyre several years ago, but I haven’t had to take a wheel off the vehicle in anger. Touch wood… May try the MTs, but AT seems to be fine for my needs.

Running Falken AT3w's, (285/70/17's), on my 2000 4Runner and I've had zero issues for 30K miles. Did several trails on the Alpine loop in Colorado and was astounded at their grip, (at 20psi), and crawled over every obstacle without a problem. They have been excellent in the rain, snow and ice. I have not had them in deep mud, but they are fine in moderately muddy situations. I have a fairly steep hill to get to my house and I don't even need 4wd in packed snow and patchy ice to climb it. I will be buying Falken's when this set wears out, but they still have 50% tread depth....might be a while.

I haven’t experimented with Falken’s yet. I’ve been using Toyo, open country AT2 or AT3 for the last three sets, and have nothing but good things to say about those. Previous to that there was some coopers, firestones, BFG and Goodyear. The Toyos and the coopers are the only tire I’ve never had a flat with and up on Canada’s roughest overland route, the Dempster highway, which can be any number of things depending what time of year you drive it, the Toyos held up stupendously. They also held up on the rough tracks of Vancouver island, which our made with blast rock. I’m very interested in Falken tires after this video though, but I’d still want to stick with Allterrains because of the snow conditions we have in Canada. I express your concerns with wet road driving with mud terrain tires, but would like to add that they suffer in snow and ice too. Even some of the ones which proclaim they’re good for mud and snow.

I have Falken Wildpeak MT on my Land rover in Arizona. I drive on a lot of rocky trails, and I have lost a lot of rubber chunks. I do like how quiet they are for a MT tire. They have gotten me through some "deep" mud with no problems. About a foot deep with rocks underneath. I just don't like the large chunks of tread missing.

I’ve also had good results with the AT3W and the MT in 285/70r17. AT3W is really good in snow and ice. MT are great in gravel.
Both are much heavier than other options in larger sizes though.
But if they made some tall skinny tires, I’d get them again.

Combination of bitumen, gravel and off road around central queensland and the gulf. The AT3 have handled everything I wouldn't even consider changing to the MT. The first set had done 65000 + when removed and probably had another 15000 klms in them going on the wear rate.

I have the AT3W on my JT Rubicon and they have been pretty decent on some of our longer more severe trips but the issue I have is their weight. They are very heavy for their size and considering most Overlander’s end up installing larger tires that only adds to the degradation of the vehicles braking and street performance. My next set of tires will have a higher profile (70 to 76 series) and will go from a C load rating to an E rating. There are several manufacturers that will fit the bill AND still come in lighter…food for thought. Cheers Andrew

My tyres are 245/75r16 cooper st maxx's and my p38 hasn't had any issues with traction loss on wet roads (or anywhere else for that matter) but has some chunks out of it over the past few years of ownership including a good amount of Tassie mud/rocks.
As I understand it a softer compound reduces the wear life of the tyre but allows more effective grip.
Which given (as you mentioned) I, like others, look forward to the purchase of new tyres seems like a win win for me

5 years and 95k with at3ws in west aus with variety of highway lots of gravel lots of sand and rocks, never been stuck never had a puncture and still have about 15-20k left in them. 2wd traction isnt the best in the wet or on gravel as they grow old but other than that they are an amazing tyre which ill happily purchase again

It's serious videos Andrew does like this one that surprises me he joked around on the CSR.
I know an excellent tyre too but I'm not going to say which brand.

You should look into Mickey Thompson BAJA BOSS A/T in 255/85R17. I think you will like them. They are made by Cooper and it's the only tire available in that size.

@ASPW....A little while ago you mentioned that you like the 255/85/16 tyre, but didn't like the options in Australia. I also remember you saying you might have an idea or something happening....any news on that size tyre?
I really like the tall skinny tyre idea. Would be even better to have these Falkens in that size.

unless you have contacts the general public is not aware of you might have a difficult time finding the falken MT in south Afrika. But if you do would you be so kind and tell us where you did happen to find them?
thanks for the video, its always nice to watch your content.

Good pitch for the tyres, well tiptoed through the cons ,good luck with the impending sponsorship. Just in the nick of time as well for the whole fleet. Love your work. Cheers 🍻

i have only used wildpeak a/t tyres for the last 4-5years, i dont have a single complaint in in mud they are great, extremely quiet they seem to last for ever and i haven't had a single puncture or issue with them

I’ve been running the falken wildpeak mt on a 79 Landcruiser single cab for the last 3 years, got about 40,000 km so far.
Great in the mud , no punctures and will get at least 60,000 out of them

I've run two sets of at3w and can't fault them. Like your set I may have had one puncture but for roughly 70k km and going into the local tip numerous times (probably 3 or 4 trailer punctures) and the general abuse I dish out they just work well. Wet grip is something I've found to be quite good and they also seem to perform admirably in the mud for being an all terrain. I'm going to run another brand for the next set but only to see what the competition has to offer.

I fear you don't have enough ks/miles on them to give a long-term review. You've had numerous sets, diluting the distance on each set. So many tires do great for the first little while. It's after 15,000miles/24.000kms where the true value shows.

Just be careful when purchasing and buy the light truck at3 tyre. The LT are stronger and come out with deeper tred from factory. I stuffed up and got the standard at3 and got 30k from them before they were warn out and also had 3 punctures in that time. I looked after them as well with rotations, alignments, pressures etc. My friend has the LT ones, although noisy, he has had no punctures and he's at 60k on them now with plenty of tred left

👍. Thanks for the update & honesty. Much appreciated. Why wouldn’t u mention the other tyre brands that had flats on the run? It’s not as tho your giving them a bad wrap, they got a flat…. There could be a 100 reasons y.. as we all know what’s written on the box / label isn’t exactly what we pay for or even get…. & now that the prices of everything going up & becoming quite ridiculous. It’s good to know in this case the other brands & where they a mt or at tyre? One of the reasons I listen to advice from people like u. Who use their gear in the real world & not just from a table or armchair. Hope your next trip goes better then the last. Oh by the way. How did that issue with Toyota warranty go? Hope they covered it like they should!

Just bought a set of 5 of these 35 inch bad boys for my 2002 Lexus LX470. First impression: very aggressive look, softer ride (compared to BFG AT same size), zero vibrations. Price of 5 including mounting: €1966,- which is crazy expensive. Update after 5k: fuel consumption is up by 20% which is way more then expected. Tyre noise is much louder then expected when compared to Grabber X3 I had before. These tyres are really rough and rugged. Biggest drawback: they are extremely heavy. Like 10lb PER TYRE compared to the BFG AT’s in same spec. Don’t underestimate the extra strain on your suspension.
UPDATE: I sold the Falken MT’s and switched to pizza-cutters: 235/80/17 Yohokohama X-AT
