"I think working as an IT person is a great way to learn cyber security". Analysis: 100% correct, for you cannot protect that which you do not understand; However (you did know there was going to be a however... right!?) when the time comes to make a move outside of trench warfare (Level 1 and 2 tech support), you must make that move quickly, boldly, and decisively. There is simply no real money in it, and corporations do not care about you one bit. So, be the best IT Support person you can be, so that your signature appears on the radar. Then, when the opportunity comes, move out of there at the speed of light, while you still can. AI will continue to advance, and your time window grows shorter by the day. Good luck!
Our company shifted from MS to Google Workspace, and the shift was somewhat messy due to it being a large old healthcare company running 100% internal IT (Still running local AD, M365 AND now Google workspace for some respective tasks/systems). Now here's a good one for you: Let's say someones microphone doesn't work in Google Meet all of a sudden, even though it did so only a couple days ago, what could the solution be? -Does another external microphone work? Nope. -Does the microphone register in device manager? Yup -Does the microphone have permissions to be used in the web browser and by the web browser? Absolutely. -Are there any funky updates available, or is the PC old? Nah -Hmm, maybe the browser? Check chrome version + reset cookies/settings? Didn't do squat -Restart the PC solves some of these issues right? Not this one! ... ... ::: Is Teams installed on the PC? Yes. >Start up teams and make them log in Does Teams find the microphone in settings? Yes. Does the microphone work in a test call? Yes. Let's exit that test call, shut down MS Teams and try another google meet test - WORKS immediately. 3 days later, a similar ticket comes in, and just as a test I immediately go to teams to try it out. - Of course it works?! Why does it work? Nothing above worked, most of which have the potential to solve an issue like this, but the plague that is MS teams magically solves it? It turns out, somehow, some people who still use MS Teams for meetings with external partners sometimes, after they've had a meeting their mic magically stops working in Google Meet, almost as if Teams has reserved the right to use the microphone until you enter and exit another call. And this is why this job is great, never know what kind of black magic you'll find, nor will you always figure out the root cause.
