- Today on The Skid Factory we’re hanging out with The Hoff at @NuggetGarage to tune Timmy’s VQ35 Turbo Datsun Bluebird!
Timmy has featured on the show many times helping us out with wiring and showing off his Datsun products from One Six Industries. He has a couple of cool Dattos including this 1981 Datsun Bluebird 910
The Current setup consists of a VQ35 bottom end from a Nissan Elgrand with Weisco Pistons and Eagle Conrods mated to VQ30 Cylinder Heads with HKS MLS Gaskets ARP L19 Head studs, VQ35 Kelford Camshafts and Valve Springs.
After playing around with a few different turbo combinations Timmy has settled on a G40-1150 which he’s hoping will provide both response and Top end power.

I love crossover episodes. MCM, The Skid Factory and Nugget Garage in one big mashup someday please! Preferably also including Scott and Dave from Haltech. AUD50K build competition. Scott, Dave and Benny help MCM while TFS teams up with NG. Final evaluation contains drifting, circuit racing and drag racing. Three episodes on each channel!
Mate they would have to be in the same shed working side by side. Cause you know the sledging and banter between them would be both next level and equal to or better than the builds!

What you guys were seeing with the fuel pressure was likely one pump surging (backflowing) thru the other and no, the check valve cannot react fast enough. You shouldn't use 2 pumps with different flow rates in parallel, just like you can't do that with turbos. I imagine he probably had 2 similar pumps previously, as he said "I did just swap the PRIMARY pump out".
If you're curious, I have tested 'mixed' pump combos to flow less than a single pump in certain situations. It's smarter to just use an aftermarket check valve if you're running 2+ staged 525lph pumps rather than a 525 and another smaller pump with an integrated check valve.

Totally understand the 3-hour drive to see a pal and have him tune. I was starting to wonder what was up.
I have pals easily 5-6 hours away. Almost never see them more than once or maybe twice a year.

Love a good datto, and I'm keen to find out just how far you can push a VQ.
They didn't seem to get much love maybe 5-10 years back, but I suppose they're cheap enough now that development is actually taking place.

VQ30 is one of the best engine ever. There is a reason Nissan used in their race skylines over the RB.

I used to have an R50 Pathfinder with the VQ35. That was fun rig.
Was probably a VQ40 in an R50.
R50 was VQ35. R51 was VQ40.

Unless a VQ got swapped into it aftermarket, the Aussie delivered R50's came with the old VG33... In the US they came with VQ35's.

Had an m35 stagea with the vq25det back in the day with over 300kw kw at all 4 very under rated engine I gave that thing hell!

Lots of El-grande 'mang' there. Love it. BTW, have run hall effect on two motors now. Sync loss can be sorted with a pull-up resistor to get rid of interference. Noticeable difference on my latest setup 10k resister did the trick. 12 teeth isn't a lot either. 36-1 is more reliable as I understand.

I know it's much newer, but has the Hoff had a play with the 3.3lt Stinger motor? Mine's coming up on 3 years old. No problems, but only the stock 270ish flywheel KW.
