The final part of an epee match eventually turning into sabre is one of those things I have always known but never knew I knew.
How are you right?
Interesting matchup given current events.
lol
very interesting…

@@sushiman1865 Record time!
@@sushiman1865 actually it got better
I see the self-defence aspect of the sport is still going strong.
That is why I love Hema far better. Usually both get punished for doublehits
It's epee, if you want self defense watch foil or sabre 🙄
@@colosseer4184 they do in epee which is what the video is
@@ClamorDiGilgamesh ummm it’s the opposite foil and Sabre have no real reason so actually block correctly more double happen in foil and Sabre than epee and both of those have very limited targets
@@colosseer4184 Not really, in most HEMA rulesets, thank god, neither gets punished for doubles, not more than in epee, anyway.
As someone who did Foil, i find it funny that the typical reserved nature of Epee just turns to the pure aggression of Sabre
Reserved nature? Bro we just waiting for the right time to violently stab stab
We have to let it all out somehow. The rest of the bout is just buildup.
I wonder if President Washington did the epee bounce in his duels?
0:53 haha i was not expecting that at all
who win that tho
Left because roght did not defend aginst the attack sekerius, aas left was attacking and right was in deffensive
The devastating effect of the ultimate fencing advantage:
longer arms.
yeah i see some good stuff right there, always hope that epee would become like sabre at least for more than 10 sec,
U made my day
Yeah to me it looks like people running at each other w/ metal wires and hoping to get lucky but I could be wrong
0:15 "Monsieur! Attack counterattack!!!"
ukr guy is ready to ask for the video
If for every time I saw someone trying to say that I got a penny, then I could go buy an extra blade.
The mysterious youtube algorithm strikes again with its sick timely humor.
The opposite of when the end of an intense sabre match turns into epee
Can confirm, I managed to stall an opponent for almost an entire minute when we were at 14-14 in a tournament. The fact that I was moving slightly faster than a snail while on the attack due to their non-stop attempts at beating my blade mightve contributed.
So the ref gives p-card at sabre bout? Interesting
I have never looked up anything from fencing, but apparently YT thought I should see this! Very cool, thanks.
I am sure that what they are doing takes years of skill and determination that I do not have, but the fact remains they are running at each other with pokey sticks seeing who can hit the other first
Épée is not normally like this. There's 4 seconds left on the timer so the person behind in points has no choice but to charge like that.
Definitely feel a little uninterested at the lack of interaction. I guess when there’s no actual fear of getting stabbed your just trying to touch him first so it’s all aggression
The reason it is all agression is that it is there are only 4 seconds left and the clock so the losing team has to go all or nothing
Yeah
@@SlicerSabre i mean, you have a point, but they usually try to just touch the opponent first and that's all. fencing as a martial art has gone downhill haha
@@jestfullgremblim8002 bc it's not really a martial art it's a sport and in this case the optimal strategy for the loosing player is just to go for it. Worst case he keeps loosing. Most likely he ties a bunch. Best case he catches up in score or wins but going this fast is the only way he'll get enough points in time.
@@nicholasgiampetro782 i know that it is now just a sport. But i don't like that, it used to be an actual way of fighting smh. Taekwondo (and others like Karate and even Judo) is now going through the same thing
Attacking with confidence, great 🤺
that last part of an epee match when it just turns into WW3
UA-cam has a sick sense of humor
If the sound is in sync with the image all starts are started before the "Allez" See rule T.22 The fencers must come on guard correctly and remain completely still until the command
‘Allez!’ is given by the Referee.
Given that not one of those was called and it is the world cup apparently, I'd say that the most likely explanation is that the video is doing something weird.
ah, yes, I definitely know what I'm watching
Man I could tell the guy who lost had major butterflies in his stomach.
This week on UA-cam recommends that age like milk!
SILVER CHARIOTO!!!
Thank you UA-cam algorithm, very cool suggestion given the current events
US high school fencing in a nut shell
I'ma be honest, I clicked on this by accident, but I stuck around for the full minute and a half.
This is incredibly interesting as a foil fencer.
This is just amazing because it’s like sabre but everywhere is a target
Honestly not a fan; I dislike seeing the rushed attacks, Epee is good because it’s the most like real swordsmanship the timing and well thought out attacks and point control is what makes Epee great, but I understand why they are doing this
There weapons are needles. If you want "real swordsmanship" take a bloody Zweihänder and beat the living shit out of five people at the same time

Remind me of Heinzer and Redli at WCH 2017💖👍
Huh, UA-cam algorithm knows geopolitics...
I have no idea what epee nor saber means because I'm not familiar with fencing. But I'm glad I made it here
Epee (sword), saber and foil are the 3 types of blades in fencing - IDK which is which but...
· In #1 only the tip counts
· In #2 only the side counts
· In #3 tip and side count
I think there're also differences on what part of the body you need to touch to score points
Damn the fight was good..
It was great battle
Koshmann must have been taking notes from Max Heinzer
me who doesn't understand a single thing: *that was close*
merci !! enfin de l'épée :)
Whoever wins gets to keep Crimea
Russia won!
All those who never watched fencing before. Its like karate. Points are scored by landing hits to the head and chest. The point is to hit and not get hit.
Hard Work🔥
I think someday when the technology reaches a point, participants will have health bars and the equipment will be able to detect proper edge alignment and the amount of force with each strike. Placement of strikes could also play a roll, awarding damage multipliers for different body parts. You could keep the current point system, but to get a point you must reduce the opponent's HP to zero.
Ideally, bullseye thrusts to the heart or forehead would deal enough damage to win a point in a single hit. Similarly, strong cuts with proper edge alignment to vital areas could also deal enough damage to win a point.
That's SAO, isn't it?
@@reinmune Kind of
Im kinda sure SAO have same damage to any body part tho
And also participants wouldnt die after hp reach 0,lol XD
@@skell6134 ALO, then
there, when you die in the game, a person remains alive.
You could do it now with Motion Sensor Suit with some modification on the hardware & software
@@HapPawhere that's a good idea! I imagine you would need many censors to accurately draw hitboxes for different body shapes, so that you don't register false hits or miss actual hits. Maybe with an accelerometer in the tip of the blade you could reduce false readings by a lot.
Nice sport
Amazing
The matchup is rather interesting
Nobody's blocking, there all holding forward out here
As an epee user, it's actually true I always do it fast.
i like epee but it always kills me seeing how people don't treat it like a true swordfight, instead it's just trying to get points and using the rules to your advantage, allowing them to sprint full bore into someones sword which is not something any actual (living) swordfighter would do
It’s a sport, they aren’t trying to simulate an actual sword fight. It’s based on sword fighting but it’s in no way supposed to be one. That’s like saying “It always kills me seeing how track runners don’t act like their being chased by lions.”
@@Brother_K it very much obviously was originally made to simulate actual sword fighting and this is just what it evolved into over time and even still is meant to somewhat emulate sword fighting you know, considering they are actually using fucking swords? As apposed to your pointless analogy in no point do track runners be chased by anything, where as this entire sport IS sword fighting, like me saying i like water then you saying "then you like oil too" like im sorry but if you think this sport isn't attempting to actually emulate sword fighting, where the entire goal is to touch your opponent without being touched, like actual swordfighters do, then i don't know what to tell you. Maybe just look up the history of basketball and learn how players will adapt to the rules and bend them in their advantage to win and how rules change to accommodate to this changing the sport entirely over decades, it happens in basically every sport, i thought it was common knowledge but i guess not.
@@ledrid6956 Your first point is like saying “Humans are basically just apes because they evolved from them”. I was not saying that track runners were being chased by anything, rather it’s a sport about running but they weren’t running for the natural reason (Running has been around for far longer than sport). My analogy had nothing to do with your analogy, l I fail to see your reasoning there. I said it was based on sword fighting, like track they are doing the actions but it’s not supposed to be like running from a lion, you can be based on something while still not emulating it. Your last point is unrelated to anything I said, and “I thought it was common knowledge but I guess not” doesn’t really benefit what you’re saying and just makes you seem like a dick.
@@Brother_K it's kind of funny how the first thing you mention is how things change over time while ending it with saying that things changing over time is completely unrelated, you legit did a 180. There is not really a point in trying to debate with someone that will do backbends just to disagree with you so im not even going to bother saying anything about the rest of what you said.
@@Brother_K it's literally swordfighting for babies
Without lethality the art is lost; fencing has morphed into kamikaze tag.
The same pitiful fate has met olympic taekwondo when a particular vest manufacturer won the contract for manufacturing the hit detection vests. They make them ridiculously sensitive so olympic TKD is just leg fencing now. Pathetic.
With lethality, you kinda lose players and the art literally dies 😂
@@thanhavictus you only had one chance. Now they have infinite lives and no sense of danger. Like trying to practice war with water guns. Not even close to the real thing.
Dude don't know the sport and talk. It's a very special context and usual épée doesn't look like that (thus the "turn into saber"
You must be fun at parties

Is this what they call foreshadowing?
Is this the "sabre rattling" we hear of right before a war starts?
Sometimes I wish, big countrys would make (olympic) games deside who is right or wrong in a arguement. Like they did sometimes in the middle age and with chess
Finally not taking them 10 minutes to finish a point

Welp now they're at war.
its ironic seeing those guys figting while their countries may go to war.
OH BOY.
They are in war
I have no idea what I watched. How the points were scored. I could barely see the swords when they weren’t swinging them. It looked like two kid running at each other and one kid pretend stinging a lot

I thought Ukraine vs Russia would get more heated than this
I play saber and even then I don't play like that 😭😭🤣🤣
Why this match looks familiar to something….
In 4 seconds he took 6 points.....
I was really just enjoying a nice match of fencing until I've given the flags a better look
i swear... i understood the french words barely because it didn't sound native and had an accent and i was like what country is the guy speaking from, and then i saw the flags of who was playing
Of course the referee would never be from either of the competing countries. He could be from Georgia, Azer Baijan, Hungary, Italy, occupied Korea, Japan, China, Algeria, they are all fencing countries
Wtf, they just ran it each other with sticks
Not sticks sir. Metal sticks.

Legends say 10 days after this the Russian Ukraine war started
wait did bida just run at koshman at the end cause he wanted to? LOL
so is matching not done by height? The guy on the right looks to have a significantly longer wingspan??
All epee fencers are just too old or too slow to fence saber.
Which is why they only have one good saber attack in them...
Lmao cant ignore the country matchups
Just imagine if this would be the problem solution between countries, instead of wars
Yeah, Captain America would stop everything with his spider webs.
good thing russian arent as good with guns as they are with swords
Well, graphically it's certainly better than Nidhogg 2 but I miss the simplistic style of the first game and I'm generally against the push for photorealism in all things. Style/direction > Graphics, that's part of what made Nidhogg 1 so good.
wacky setup
Cant understand even bit of it 🤣🤣
Fencing will never be a spectator friendly sport. Its so hard ro see what happened and you need electronic sensors
They seem more alpha than epeeists.
But the footwork is just shifty-foil (0:34 fleche-into-duck)
Its a last effort to get points, so throwing as much at Bida as possible super fast to try to get something
UKR and RUS ??😂😂 good for you
I am slightly confused by this sport. If they were really "dueling" who wins when they both stab each other?
The blades are blunted, so it’s not to the death, of course. If they both stab each other in this context, no points would be given - after all, both combatants *did* get stabbed!
(Though, if it was to the death and both of them get stabbed, they’d probably be dead.)
I have no idea what that is
Amazingly golf isn't the worst expectator sport
Hmnmmm yes very interesting indeed!
Why am I being recommended this? 🤔😂
This is why I think epee DE matches ought to be one period of 3 minutes until the semi final.
Semi final has two 3 minute periods. Then final has the full three 3 minute periods.
Not only does it speed up tournaments, fencers now can’t just dance around 🕺 💃 for an age.
I would also implement the previous passivity rule. No action in the periods for the semi and or final after 1 minute. Skip to the next period.
I’d rather they dance around a lot more than each round be over in less than a second. From a spectator perspective it’s definitely uninteresting to watch and hard to understand why one person won over the other when they just jump at eachother each time
@@RePlayQ you would still respect the rules of epee but bouts would be much more active (like a poule round) than it currently is.
Epee is easy for spectators to understand the rules but yawn inducing when no one commits. But shortening the rounds fencers have to commit more so.
Always find watching epee most exciting when there are literally seconds to go and someone’s loosing.
These guys keep starting before allez
It's got to be the most uninteresting sport I've ever witnessed.
Dueling with swords is the most unintestering sport?
ua-cam.com/video/IgJy92YFWDw/v-deo.html
@@duck653 it's not dueling with sword. It's point fighting with bending sticks.
