Im really sorry you had that experience with MK. I just started my Mary Kay Business 4 months ago. I LOVE IT!! I do virtual and in person parties. I believe that it depends on the team you're in. My unit is completely helpful and great. They really help me, my director even do parties for me. The unit I'm apart of isn't about putting women under each other or sales. You earn more money selling the product than you do recruiting. Our unit is more about sisterhood, celebrating each other. With testing out the opportunity, weighed the risks. I thought about how you can sell your inventory back to the company for 90% of what you bought it for. So you won't lose a lot of my when you back out. I actually feel that I have a lot of freedom with my Mary Kay Business and I'm so sorry you had a terrible time. Honestly I think it depends on the unit you're joining.
Yes I agree! It also depends on how much you like the product too! And like I mentioned I didn’t LOVE it so it was harder to sell! I deffs think it’s right for some people and I’m happy it is working out really great for you!❤️
Kaitlin but your video is clearly to get people to see mary kay from negative sides. Stop spreading the negative
@@lukhmanzoul7756 after reading through comments and watching whole video, thank God I'm under the right unit and right passion to start Mary Kay and willing to learn everything about Mary Kay through best sisterhood and e-college. My dear Kaitlin, you should love what you are going to do first
@@prescellamila2353 yes its not about the system. Its all about ourselves instead!
Iam a man. I never do a woman job for entire life but in marykay the teach me something. They never underestimate my ability evetho i had never have any experienced into this. This is something new for me and guess what i am one step closer to become DIRECTOR !
All women should take this as your best opportunity to start from zero. Stop complaining. Just do it for urself and ur BIG WHY not for your leader.
@@lukhmanzoul7756 You're the reason why a lot of people quit, toxic positivity. Look it up, understand it, some people go their seperate ways and have opinions, accept that. Not everything is sunshine and rainbows, if a person had a bad experience, they have every right to tell others about it.
I’ve never been a fan of MLMs because I find them so predatory.
Exactly!! Luckily I wasn’t a huge pushover!
Very much
A scam is a scam. I have been trying to get my sister from under this demon for years. Finally to the point where I have to cut her off just to let this dumpster fire burn itself out.
I'm from Malaysia, and pretty much everything I've read online about the negatives of Mary Kay are true. I was originally a customer, trying out a new product, but he encouraged me to try selling it. I've seen it all. Toxic positivity, lies about it "not being mlm", the people in my group's group chat would even post screenshots of their customers conversation to make fun of them if they decide to not buy their product, and they didn't even censor any information about the customer, the leader did nothing about this. The leader has also been pestering me to buy inventory even tho he told me so many times I can just do pre-order for my customers. The time he approached me about the "business", he was so caring and nice, insisting I do not need to buy inventory, I was very stern, I've read all about it, so I challenged everything I could, so he knew he was in for a fight. In the end, I just decided to stop supporting it completely, now I'm just looking for some replacements, definitely something cheaper. Honestly, if anyone comes at you telling you "oh, it depends on the group" and all that bs, don't even give them a chance, it's all to manipulate you. Wolves in sheep skin.
I totally agree! You don't really know how predatory it is until you are in, and the thing that kinda sucks is they are very persuasive people. The other thing that is sort of sad about it is the people who do sell are typically in a financial bind so they know they are a good person to persuade into selling their products! Not everyone is fit for sales and that's what they don't realize! I'm glad we both can relate to this even across the world! I bet there are a bunch of other great products that are cheaper anyways! Plus like you did, I don't want to support a group that is predatory and not 100% something I believe in! Thanks for your comment, made my day! :)
@@KaitlinSonday Have a look at Dr Grey on UA-cam, she has a PHD and is a dermatologist. She makes a lot of videos debunking stuff, including the recently viral thing called "clean beauty" and how it really misinforms people about the chemicals in our products and that we shouldn't really pay much attention to those marketing schemes. I'm currently looking for Mary kay solutions, on what to avoid and all that, but she really opened my mind about it.
Imagine having a full store inventory, taking up space, in your basement and can't sell a tube of lipstick.
I've never been a fan of Mary K. I remember using them YEARS ago. I actually didn't know they were even still around!! Thanks for sharing your experience
I liked some of their products tbh but being in it made a really bad taste in my mouth so I’m not supporting them at all now! And yeah I honestly don’t know how well that business/model will be in the next decade! We’ll see!😅
I love your honesty! I always wanted to work for them but giving your advise I’m not doing that!!! Thanks
Of course! And that’s good! So much better things to focus on!
You’ve inspired me to do a video about my experience too. Mary Kay was my first job. I bought so much stuff for marketing and never really went through with it. 18 years old I didn’t have money it was my first job and I was convinced to buy inventory and all that! Crazy how a lot of us have similar stories!
I’m glad you want to do that now! And ikr they really try to drill that down your throat to so many people and it’s sad!
Girl, I really love your authenticity. There are alot of truths to what you're saying. I was considering becoming a consultant but the more research I did i was like no. Plus make-up isn't a need for me especially during the pandemic. Plus I'm already a wellness sales consultant and luckily I don't need to keeo stuff at home. We have a main warehouse in California that ships nationwide. Thanks so much. ❤
Thank you! I appreciate that so much! I'm glad you did your research! I really didn't much but I should have! And that is nice! I'm happy you found what was best for you! 🙂
The best advice I can give to anyone on this topic is to just get the product for yourself. If you don't want to sell don't.
Yess! It’s hard cuz the sellers are pretty dang convincing and typically won’t stop at no🙃
@@KaitlinSonday this isn't for everyone. I don't like to hassle people. I would rather a person say no than to sign up and do absolutely nothing.
I remember Mary Kay. Even Avon. And i love how honest you are we all have fallen for something like this. I fell for so much of these companies. They definitely bring you in with cool stuff like cars and money and all that
Exactly but then you learn the truth! Luckily I wasn’t financially burdened!
I am mary kay beauty consultant too but so far, mary kay is the great. My recruiter not active anymore but i still can manage it alone. I talk to my SD and SSD, they help me a lots. At first, i joined mary kay because i fall in love with the skin care, i thought about being an user only.. But now, im focused doing mary kay business. I love it very much. The sisterhood in mary kay was great. Always in positive vibe. Not only my skin got a lot better but now i also feel more confident. At first, yes its a bit stress because my recruit not active but after all it depends on myself. Want it or not? Can do it or not? Quit or keep going? i had suffer because my unit is not as great as i think it will be but its on me who will change it. i learn from their mistakes. I see many unit did great so i asked them. How to manage, how to change, what should i do and everything. They also help me a lots, we not even in same unit or know each other but thanks to mary kay sisterhood, they give a hand. Thats was so nice of them. its about a year im in mary kay now and seriously, i love it. Pardon my bad eng.
Thank you for your amazing comment! I love how you have had a great experience so far! Like I mentioned I loved meeting the people that I did but just overall it wasn't for me! Go out there and kill it! You got this! 💕
Love your honesty! I always wondered how these sort of business work!
Thank you! And yess I hope I explained it well!
I honestly have customers that bought from me just because they love the products and I have only been doing it for a few months. But I would not start selling a product that I wasn't passionate about. Hopefully that has been a learning lesson for you.
I’m not a fan if MLM’s. They business model is really more about recruiting “team members” and that’s who they profit off of. They’re not even trying to market to the public, they take advantage of women who need a career or a career changed. The fact that Mary Kay wants you to open a credit card for product is insane. For what these unsuspecting women pay to get into an MLM’s they could legitimately start a small jewelry making business and be better off.
Exactly!! It makes me so sad and luckily my experience wasn’t that bad compared to other stories I have heard!!
Yeah I agree with you on everything you said. I just feel like MLMs are so fake in general and I have alot friends who can tell you horror stories about their experiences with Mary Kay and Avon. I'm glad you got out of it!!
Exactly! I’m glad I did too!
The literally want you to “have inventory” so the company makes money off of you. These MLM companies drive me insane. I’m glad you’re out!
Exactly! It’s so annoying!
Any business in product sales , you must have inventory !!!
Yeah but many of the MLMs also push to saying you don’t need to have inventory and let you sell and then purchase the items for them! A lot of drop shipping also doesn’t have inventory as well.
@@KaitlinSonday I just signed up for Mary Kay !!! I understand business and also move at my own beat
That’s great!
I actually found this so eye opening, very very interesting
I’m glad it helped!
MLM companies are honestly not the greatest! Same thing with Arbonne or Avon. I’m glad you are honest about your experience girl and I totally relate!
I agree! Not as good as it really sounds! And thank you!❤️
These kinds of companies are super sketchy and prey on people. Same thing with Avon and these other mlm's
Exactly! It’s sad but I’m glad I learned a lot!
Great review. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences.
Of course!😊
Thank you so much for posting your honest opinion! I think its great to hear!
Yes! It really is!
I will say not all MLMs are like this. I'm a Scentsy consultant and Scentsy is not pushy with recruiting and you do not have to keep inventory!
Well that’s good not all of them are like this!
I'm a Nikken wellness consultant and I don't have to keep stuff at home either. However, there's alot of general truths she's talking
i could never do a MLM! always seem kind of shady to me like the consultants get the burden!!
Exactly! Had to see for myself!
Great honest sharing you have here, I am glad you are out, since I am never into MLM myself 😅🤣
Yes it was an experience all right! Lol
We do marykay in malaysia really enjoy. Its all about how much effort you put to achieve your dreams. There is no elevator to success . You must take the stairs. Marykay system is really amazing coz we all start from zero and grow to become hero. I respect your decision to quit marykay but i dont think this video is necessary to be uploaded like you want to tell everyone how bad marykay is coz everything starts from yourself not the system.
That’s super cool! I’m glad you had success about it but I also think it’s necessary to say my opinions and experiences! I just also didn’t love the products so it was hard to sell!
Kaitlin how can you r the girl can be so difficult to sell the products that we all know its all womens products mostly ?
Fyi iam a man but selling the products never seems hard for me. You girls out there should be more easier to sell the products than me
My friend dose mary kay she wants me to go on board and just watching your video thank you I'm not doing it 🤗I agree they always mention on ppl that are selling vs the ones that dont really sell I dont like that they should share both ends love hearing your experience girl💜
Oh yeah they get rewards and stuff if they recruit people! Which is really the main point of MLM but yes I agree they should say the pros and cons!
Girl, I did Mary Kay too. Actually I did a few different ones 😂 and I stopped for the same reason. Although I really did like the skincare and makeup but it just wasn’t worth it to me as a job opportunity.
Omg that’s crazy! Yeah it was just not my thing but worth a shot!🤷🏻♀️
I appreciate the honesty in this so much! I always thought these kinds of hustles had more than meets the eye which is unfortunate :(
Yes! Had to learn on my own tho! Learned stuff on the way to help me what I’m doing now at least!😊
It truly breaks my heart on how they really push inventory and the credit card after recruiting so many women who area already trying to fix or upgrade their finances! You cannot empower women AND set them up for failure at the same time. I was a consultant too and have similar thoughts as yours. MLMs need to be stopped. Thanks for sharing! 💕
I agree! Ugh I hope by time people see it as that and it dissolves! Lol and ugh so sorry to hear you also went through stuff like that! Glad we both made it out!
i was always hesitant trying MK products, the ladies i met they tried to sell the products always seemed fake
Yes exactly!!
Hye im Independent Beauty Consultant mary kay . Please happy to reply me if u wanna have free Consultation.. u will enjoy it. 💞😘
Girl right... I can't do with fake smiles with anything.
I love the MK products very much, but I hate the fact that you HAVE to keep inventory. And my recruiter was pushy. I want to quit and just purchase from someone down the street lol
Haha maybe you should do that! 🤷🏻♀️
I use to sale Avon a long time ago I’m was like 19/20 and I hated it, it too was hard to sale. I agreed that the social group of those businesses are horrible and annoying and I will Never do it again.
Exactly! They can really suck you in which is sad!
I joined cuz my friend did mary kay. I quit as well because it just wasn't for me.
I enjoy some of their products and was glad it get them on the discount, but Im not a pushy sales person & never kept inventory because I felt it was so wasteful.
Yes! And yes I don’t mind selling stuff if I actually like it! Like products that are my holy grail I feel like I could sell! Lol I’m glad you went through the same experience!
@@KaitlinSonday yess! Like the bronzer and blushes i really like. But the shadows are good, but nothing too impressive compared to other brands . And the setting spray super long lasting but its the exact same as skindinavia / ud all nighter
YES. I agree that they do over share the success stories. THIS PERSON QUIT THEIR JOB AND IS A MILLIONAIRE NOW. What about the average person though?
Exactly! Like I feel like it’s very skewed!
I feel the product have some smell that make me feel don’t want to use it anymore ,The botanical series. They have paraban in it I seen the ingredients I immediately stop.
Interesting!! Yeah I’ve stopped buying any of their stuff just getting through one eye cream that I have from them then I’ll be done!
The reason Mary k is hard to sell is because truth is no one wants It it’s to expensive and not high quality enough for the price i love makeup as a mua so let me tell you very few things i truly like from Mary k and the things i do like i can still get some where else for less like the brow pencil they have being super tiny and $15 runs out in a month vs Anastasia that last 6 months for $18
I totally agree!! So much more worth it to look around and not just one brand!
These kind of companies are always feeding people with big money but it never benefits anyone . When I was young I also went into in something similar .
If you read the disclaimer from the actual company, they will tell you upfront that they can not make any guarantees of how successful anyone will be, or how much money they will make. 99% of the population will not even bother to read the COMPANY’S disclaimer, but will instead listen to the slime ball signing them up. It’s beyond me why people won’t READ what the company has actually put in writing, but then they will complain about someone, “lying to them,” when all they had to do was read the company’s website.
I agree! Much better looking in then what it actually is!
Mary Kay is very popular in the area of the country I am living in right now. I think most retail sales have product in stock available for people to buy. That is a risk all those in business take. But before going into sales in anything it is best to do a fishing expedition on if there is interest in that kind of product before buying into it though. ..I don't sale anything here as I have a FT job already and busy life, but I do know the Mary Kay sales lady was doing very well in this area, particularly in the health care facilities in the area- that I work in- and at that mainly for the Miracle Set and Satin Hands. So I am sure she stocks up on those things over like perfumes or something. With that said Mary Kay was rated in the top 20 and here are a couple sources where I looked and found it off google; www.beautypackaging.com/heaps/view/5163/4/300887
and then this one is from the magazine Good Housekeeping www.goodhousekeeping.com/beauty-products/a26991563/best-beauty-awards-2019/
Thank you for your comment! I agree it just depends on where you are and how many people are wanting it in your area!
I'm glad that I watch your video today. I was wondering the pros n cons of any product I want to sell. I was thinking to join in the next intake but now I'm doubting. Thank u again. 😂
That’s good! Just in time! Lol I’m glad this video helped you a bit make a big decision!
Damn, I'm joined Mary kay this month and it's ok because I wanna discount product, and will quit anytime hehe .. is it the product safe and work?
Oh well maybe you will like it! And hahah yeah it’s nice you can quit whenever. I like some of their products but not enough for the discount everytime!
I have problematic skin concerns and MK worked wonders. My wife sined up under her aunty just for discounts. That's all. But their products are actually really good. Just i'm very familiar with mlm systems and not very fond of it.
My understanding is that you'll only keep the 50% discount for three months when you spend at least $225 in buying product. If you stop buying that much product, you'll lose the discount and go into inactive status.
I could never do an MLM so I don't blame you for quitting!
Yes! It was a good experience tho!
The directors will not really help. No they don't. The one I almost went with would not be open to sharing some leads if I joined just to help me start.. Guess it's not enough to have teams who pay through the team sales for their car to share maybe 10 or 5 of the 40 leads this director said she had. Never ever go with these hungry sales people. This director gave me a get started booklet from o8 this is 2023. Awful.
This was so interesting! I’m also not a fan of MLM! I’m glad you learned something from the experience and thanks for sharing your story 💕
Yes! Luckily it wasn’t as bad compared to some women’s experience!
I forget that people still sell Mary k ahaha . I would not join a mlm ... it’s not a good business structure except for those who are able to get a lot of people to be under them for up line . I get some referrals from clothing I talk about but I feel like it’s different cause it’s not a pressure I just get credit if someone feels like using it or not ahaha . I will say however while I don’t agree with mlms I will still appreciate buying from friends who have them ( I have a mini scentsy addiction now ahaha )
I totally agree! But it was worth a shot at least! And exactly it’s more like you actually love it and it’s not a game to get others to sell it too!
I am so sorry you had to go through his burden!
It’s okay! I learned a lot!
I'm always very critical of any MLM
just wanna ask, after leaving mary kay, are you successfull right now?
Yes I would say so! Success is measured in a lot of ways! I gained a lot of knowledge through this experience and I’m much happier now as well!😊
I was also in Mary Kay a couple years ago and my experience was very similar. I was grateful to not have an issue with “product on the shelf” leftover when I quit. I was one of the members of my unit that didn’t make a lot from it. I still love the products but didn’t like the business model
So many people have been it it and yes luckily I sold a bunch! At that point I just wanted to make my money back so I sold pretty cheaply! And nooo I didn’t know it was that bad!
I could neeeever work for a pyramid scheme ahhhhh
Yes! It was crazy!
I’ve always wondered about these companies work, business wise. This is interesting specially coming from someone who experienced it firsthand. 💕
Yes! It was a good experience and learned a lot!
Ngl people love Mary Kay here in Malaysia .
I heard it is popular there!
what is mlm ?
Multi level Marketing!
Breaks my heart what they are doing to women
Me too😩
Too many toxic people here. Poor MK.
I never understood now with social media and online shopping, why they still have people sell it? Great stuff, but way over priced!
Ikr! I don’t LOVE the products either and have similar thoughts!
Maybe you are not good in mary kay
Maybe it wasn’t the right path for me!
@@KaitlinSonday It's only the right path if you're ruthless and willing to alienate friends and family. It's the right path for those at the top who ride the coattails of all the people at the bottom. I'm glad you left.
