It’s a song about a couple falling put pf live. It also refers Samson and Delilah, King David and Bathsheba, but it also says « Will maybe there’s a God above », and it was written by a Jewish man. It is not about Jesus.

This makes singing live waaaaay easier than back in the day when we used to have to wonder if we were off because we could barely hear! Beautiful song by Lenard Cohen done beautifully by Rufus.

I've heard there was a secret chord That David played, and it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do you? It goes like this The fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Your faith was strong but you needed proof You saw her bathing on the roof Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you She tied you to a kitchen chair She broke your throne, she cut your hair And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Maybe I've been here before I know this room, I've walked this floor I used to live alone before I knew you I've seen your flag on the marble arch Love is not a victory march It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah Hallelujah, Hallelujah There was a time you'd let me know What's real and going on below But now you never show it to me do you? And remember when I moved in you? Bravo!
Rufus Wainwright brings us to seventh heaven with his rendition of Hallelujah. Heartwarming words, strung together with the most sensitive voice and music, create a colorful mosaic of unparalleled beauty.

Yes its my personal funeral song too and was also my best friends/fiancées funeral song which was played at their funerals too. It makes me cry every time I hear it.

What makes you think that?
When im having my absolute worst days, I come here to this song to fix it. No song brings me peace like this 1
It’s on most of my custom CDs, Rufus just does it the best in my opinion
Normal, it is right for each song which glorify Christ
It’s a song about a couple falling put pf live. It also refers Samson and Delilah, King David and Bathsheba, but it also says « Will maybe there’s a God above », and it was written by a Jewish man. It is not about Jesus.

My man loved Cohen. He cried when he left this earth. He joined him 5 months ago singing Rufus version.
❤
My sincere condoleances
Rufus version will always be THE definitive version. Breaks my soul every time.
You 're absolutely wright
Breaking soul, isn't that kinda missing the point of the song?
Go urgently listen to Jeff Buckley version
Not this version though. Those inhales just irritate me.
It's easy to see that you don't anything bout music or sing
His voice gives me goosebumps. It's just beautiful by itself. So magical...
Amen
I have listened to many versions of Leonard Cohen's beautiful song, and this my absolute favourite. Rufus Wainwright's voice is sublime.
The best version ❤
This is probably the best song of the world. This version.
When Leonard could still watch. An incredible man. Men.
Leonard was a brilliant man, he wrote wonderful poetry.
This is the greatest version of this song I have ever heard hands down. Rufus owns this song. Straight from the heart
I completely agree that this is the best version and it’s not even close.
I like the choir choir choir version better. It seems like his voice has grown richer and more pure. I feel he owns the song too.
K D Lang IMHO does the greatest version.
John Cale
Aa
I get chills every time I hear Rufus sing this song. 💖💖💖
So do I. It's been ruined by his nasal whine.
shut the fuck up..
+Kim Hatton i love this version, but this made me laugh so hard
lamusicjunkie41 Me too.
Kim Hatton Pure envy mate!! 😂😂
Rufus played and it pleased the lord.
Hi!
Absolutely
what is the Lord’s name? Silly question? Of course, because Jesus Christ is the King of kings and Lord of lords!!!!!!!!
this song was for this man!
This song really does have a holy feeling to it. It’s very peaceful
Well said 👏 👌 👍
How can anyone not like his rendition of "Hallelujah"?! Beautifully done!

It's certainly not awful but RW has got this nasal, whinging thing in his singing that is an acquired taste...

He was born for this song
This version gives me eargasms😅 His voice is out of this world 💖
He sings with soul. Thank you Rufus. Thanks Cohen!❤
He makes his voice very relaxed and focused at the same time! He makes a harmony with just one voice! Wow! This is one of the best songs to find out how high you can go! If someone can sing this perfectly, you know that they can sing!

YES!No matter how old he gets or who sings it or who says hes not.NO ONE can sing this song better than him :)
I'm thankful Cohen wrote this song, and I'm glad Buckley popularized it, but I believe Rufus sang it best.
Agreed. Rufus' version is just so stellar!
Listen to k. d. Lang
I've heard about 30+ versions. This is my favorite easily but depending on my mood I call upon other versions to do the trick as well.
I heard Rufus play this at The Wiltern Theater in 2005 and it's still my favorite rendition.
Yeah I kind of agree with you, and I say kind of because I think the one that popularized it more was Shrek xD
Можно бесконечно слушать и наслаждаться исполнением этой песни!
Indeed!
Согласна на все 100
Love Rufus! This is, by far, the very purist rendition ❣️
Thanks for standing up and speaking out about the dreaded #45 using your arrangement of this amazing song without authorization. Bravo!
What a contradiction of the song's purpose and your hateful comment!
Typical liberal diminishing another, yet supporting the corrupt
I don’t know what you are talking about but this a wonderful rendition of this song.
By far the best version of this song I’ve ever heard. His voice was meant for this song. Absolutely breathtaking.
By far??? Jeff Buckley (?
Rufus’ voice is a little too nasal for me, but strong cover regardless. But after the man himself, Jeff Buckley was perfection.
This is the best version of Hallelujah. I agree Rufus owns this song...lovely, heartful rendition. Bellisima, Rufus! Thank you.
I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe I've been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There was a time you'd let me know
What's real and going on below
But now you never show it to me do you?
And remember when I moved in you?
The holy dark was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe there's a God above
And all I ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It's not a cry you can hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light
It's a cold and its a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Thank you for the lyrics ❤️
