Long time watcher first time commenter, remember 2 years back when I started actively lifting and had Paris recommend your channel and watching the road to 600 bench was a joy, been taking your tips for OHP along with similar programming for that designated day and I’ve been progressing smoothly. Even if you call yourself a yapper, there still is a swathe of knowledge that I’ve been seeing immense benefit from. Keep up the great work can’t wait to be there when you hit 405 on the OHP!
Hey Sam, I'm currently working on a 315 bench and a 405 ATG high bar squat as part of my performance based bodybuilding metrics, shout outs to Kerstin, and find these "road to" videos highly motivating. Keep yapping and slapping on the plates. 💪
We are all guys just lifting weights and your channel more than most feels like a good chat about lifting. Maybe because a lot of it is about what you’re doing. Athlete/Educator. I can think of other people like this but I think you’ve found a perfect blend. Legend
I just realized I need to squat 185. My PB is 180kg and that's less than 405. And I don't want to be completely mogged. Love your vids, keep them coming.
3:25 is true asf man, i'm not one of the most Self Love guy, so historically i used to think "i can't do it" and well... i failed almost 100% of this reps, more recently affected by eric bugenhagen i changed this mindset and go to the 1RM attempts feeling fucking Alexander the Great and i WIN Be positive abt yourself and you will win (and this gym mentality has a colossal carryover to life man, nowadays i can kill a bear just give me the right music) (AND i'm sorry if this text seems to be written by a 3 year old my english is not good)
The part about thinking of yourself as good at a lift is interesting and i think that might be my problem, i went from 70lbs to 370 on bench in my first 1.5yr of lifting and for the last 2 months i couldn't get past 370 and i think that maybe thinking negatively could be a big part of that. Whenever i go into a session feeling like im a strong lifter i always have a more productive lift.
1: that's fucking insane progression great work lol 2: Yessir if nothing else I think that mental pivot is at least one key part of overcoming plateaus!
At 370 in 1.5yrs that's a ton of progress. Being that that's abnormal, it does make me wonder if you're overtrained. You may think that's not the case but in less than 2 years you have less time to come to terms with how to space out your efforts relative to your strength level
Hey Sam, I have a question for you either here in the comments, or if you'd like to make a video about it that'd be great too. I'm just wondering when you start on these "road to" journeys, how do manage the rest of your training? Do you reduce volume or intensity on your other major lifts? For example you recently hit your bench and deadlift goals, are either or both of them put on maintenance phases while you chase your OHP? On the other side of the same question, how much extra effort is dedicated to your chosen lift when you embark on one of these goals? I love watching your videos, bro and just like everyone else, really appreciate your in depth insights into training and how much thought you put into this.

I would rather swear off holding barbells and switch exclusively to zerchers than to use a smith machine for something. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk lol

Goddamn Sam the delts looking succulent! Guess that's to be expected of someone chasing a 405 strict press!

@@aesop2733 its very possible, Ive found the most progress with very high frequency of bench so im gonna take a deload and see if that helps too
