You will love the crane. One thing you might want to consider. It may not be needed but I will throw this out there for consideration. My experience has been that the overhead crane tends to block out the lighting where you are working and having lights added to the crane help to offset this issue. Food for thought.

Thanks for another great video Chet and all of the great people on the team!!!!! Larsons has a great team of people on their operation.
A overhead crane, yeah!!!!!!! Believe you said three ton. Will be really nice to have in the shop for lots of jobs. Most shops say they use theirs all the time. Looking forward to the video showing it going up and in operation. Super addition to the shop!!!!!!
See you all getting combines ready. Harvest will be here sooner than you know.
About it I guess. Always busy with the grain bins.
Thanks for everything. You all take care and be safe.

Hello Larsons! I’m a very loyal watcher of your UA-cam channel. I’ve been a Springland dealer/farmer/millwright for 28 years and probably sold 100 powersweeps for them. I’ve not sold 20 sets of rubbers for the drive wheels. It looks to me like your wheel should be set inward from the bin wall a few inches. If it is riding on the edge of the flooring but partly on the flashing where it bows down I think you are tearing your wheel rubbers up. I personally have a 1980’s 27’ bin that gets emptied 6 or 7 times a year for transferring to silos and it still has original rubbers. Also do you have a carrying wheel in the center of the sweep may help?? Keep up good the farmer representation. D Hosch NE Iowa

As for cleaning the bins it seems maybe you should fill a balloon with acetylene and put in the middle of the empty bin and then ignite it. Then you can sweep up what came off of the walls and roof. Cleaner and fun.

    • @randyb1890
      @randyb1890 9 днів тому

Needs to be oxygen and acetylene, light torch, adjust for neutral flame, snub out torch on ground, fill balloon. fuse or electric detonator. I would not what to be in an enclosed space like that with crap raining down from above on me.

  • @donmathias1705

One thing to remember when using a crane. Always keep the winch chain vertical in both planes when lifting. If your flipping something over for example take time to correctly lift so it rotates to where you want it by lifting and following the arc it generates. You are in a world of pain if a big job swings. Never ever get between a lifting job and no escape, no matter how tempting. A few minutes extra is a whole lot quicker than a arm or leg in plaster. Your first few months are the most dangerous. Take your time and have everyone have a meeting about this crane and it's operation and do's and don't. Sounds pussy but cranes used by untrained folks hurt people very quickly. Just keep in mind "what if". I've been around cranes for fifty years and I've seen some dumb stuff. Start with good lifting options, chains, shackles, strops etc so that the right piece of gear is on hand right from the start. Take care and enjoy.

I know Senior Larson, Mr. Dougo and Mr. Randy never expected to have accomplished all you guys have as a team now back when they were growing up working the farm and then taking it over. I love hearing Mr. Dougo tell stories of what they farmed with but that’s just hard work and everyone knows pulling together and now they have The Boss-Toby and The Dream Team to assist them! Word to the wise, Chet and crew. Those conductor bars are bare live wires. Before you go up to work on lights or anything else in that area, turn off the power in the electric panel. It could be a shockingly bad time otherwise.

    • @staubfarms

Those are not bare conductor bars. They're only open on the bottom, and they're essentially completely finger safe. You'd be lucky to even shove your pinky up into it to touch the actual live portion.

Yes, you've finally got something you will now not be able to live without, take my word for that!!!! You already have decided that you will "find" jobs for it to do, but you will just find it so convenient to just roll it over what ever you are doing, and lift! This is such a valuable piece of equipment, you will use it at least every week!
Thanks for showing the drudgery of bin clearing. such a nasty job, shame the sweepers don't work as they should, but with all that weight on top of them, that they do work is a wonder sometimes. Those poor old gearboxes go through such hell until they are empty, then they just give up the ghost. Still, one less job to do now you get to run the man lift whenever you need to get up to the lights. Just DON'T TOUCH ANY OF THE WIRES THAT POWER IT 'COS YOUR FAMILY WILL REGRET IT! YOU, WON'T BE HERE! THEY ARE LIVE WHEN EVER YOU POWER UP THE LIFT. Thanks for the good news, have fun with it, and remember it's only like a jack, don't try and lift any trucks off the ground. Once the crane is up & running you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.

Chet. There is a retaining wall in between two of the red barns with big concrete blocks. How has it held up since you have had it there?

When you have to clean up the small clumps out of the bin, would it be easier to use a shop-vac and that way you don't sweep small particles through the bin floor? I really don't know, just curious.

Are you guys sure that the building will handle the weight? Looks sketchy to me.
