I was watching a video from 15 years ago called "the day in the life...", you were a very young man rocking to country music in the excavator. Even back then you have a seminary...a finesse...a smoothness at how you work those controls. Most are violent with handling them...but with you it a smooth orchestration of skill
Oh BS. Very few beat on a machine... even fewer are violent. You've clearly never run anything. You beat on a machine it beats on you 2x. The machine is in fact tougher than you. Nobody will pay you to beat on equipment... Management will send you down to the competition... and on down the line you go. Pretty soon you are standing on a clapped out standing loader from soviet china making minimum wage at 50.
Always interesting when you start digging into old dam!! Glad you found the pipe! Remember the leak in the dam video, that took awhile to find the leak!!
I don't know about other people who watch your channel, but I find the noises your machinery make to be quite soothing in a odd way. Good thing your "Help" came up with the idea about putting that piece of pipe in so it can still drain and you can drive across it lol.
The noises & sounds are great, All except for the Komatsu "Dozer" to me it sounds like a rattle trap & somewhat annoying when the Cam is on the outside At least IMO...Maybe the smaller engine i have no idea, its just my cup of tea... Even though it does a great job overall. Edit : Of all the diff machines that is....
The price of that pipe is something that went through the roof due to covid. You would of thought that supplies and prices should of recovered by now. I think someone is making a huge profit somewhere
The pipe went up due to a few factors. First, since plastic is made from oil and the price of oil went up, so did the pipe. Then the pandemic caused everything that required labor, transportation, and humans to process went up. Finally, after the US and the rest of the world’s governments dumped trillions of dollars, euros, pounds, and everything else into the system to keep things going instead of shutting down, well that caused inflation. More than was needed but that’s another rant. Sadly, once prices go up, they very rarely go down. If they do, this is called deflation and it can be worse than inflation. In the mean time, the economists and the politicians are just making it up.
It's fun watching the projects as they progress. I sometimes don't realize how great the finished product will be until I see it and then think, wow, that's fantastic.
Hey Chris, you made allot of great progress in this video. . . 👍 I guess you're doing this job as a warmup for that big dam repair job you have to do soon. That one's going to be a dirt moving marathon for sure. Keep up the awesome work and stay safe out there.
I'm glad you completely done away with the old overflow pipe. That's one less thing to cause problems in the future. That's going to be a very nice pond again when you are finished with it. I agree the 220 was the best choice to do everything. Seems small filling Barney with more than 4 scoops now 😂😂.
Wow Chris, that`s progress all right, it looks so nice all graded out. It`s gonna look great once that is all filled in and no more concrete is showing and the property can be maintained much easier.
after all these years I still enjoy watching your videos ! keep up the good work, its great fun to watch you completing jobs and buying new equibment. greetings from a self employed landscape gardener from germany
Coming together, you made great progress, a lot accomplished to date, going to look great when your, nice job of grade as usual, thanks for the update, enjoyed watching.
Cool trick loading the pipe. Moving a lot of dirt. This time it will be packed correctly to last another 50 years and ready for a new life. Thanks Chris.
Getting that old pipe completely out removes the question of future headaches seeping through later (from that). It was obvious from how the sidewalls were peeling off that the dam was NOT properly compacted but counted on having great material to seal itself well. As much concrete that you were working in, I was fully expecting to see an old car, a refrigerator, or a soda machine get uncovered.
Collapsing clay even when it is of good quality - just goes to show proper compaction is absolutely necessary. Old pipe was working fine - the old 'school house' was the blocker. Many elements in this video - great as is always evident with LetsDig18 channel.
After watching the 350 filling Barny with 4 scoops, The 220 seems slow, but Mike filling Bubba Dump with the CASE 140 at 15 scoops, is like SLOW MOTION. LOLOL
Chris, You open the Dam, from this Pond. You make this with all Your Routine. Then by the Opening make You the preliminary to lay the Drain, and to put the Overflow. And how You this Dam repair. This is a Perfect Work, for a long Time. Good Video . Thanks. 👌
you may not of built this pond dam Christ, but your giving it that special Chris touch, and just know everyting will be up and working in no time after you are finished with it all. SOME of that Concrete can be used as Rip Rap?? as long as it is there, can use some of that to shore up the inside wall of the pond dam🙂Forever learning from you Chris. Great video!
Just think someone though putting broken cement on the backside of the dam was a good idea. The truth is that it would be a problem down the road if the overflow started leaking and needed to be replaced. Chris, I am sure, will install the new overflow properly so if someone has to work on the overflow won't have to deal with broken concrete. Doing the job correctly the first time would be the least expensive...
all that junk buried on backslope made for half decent fill to some degree. as Chris said, dam itself isnt done quite best practice but its held this long. least all that concrete wasnt in dam itself mixed with sandy soil/top soil
Great job buddy 👍🏻 love how you said love it when a plan comes together 52:36 I think I saw a fish jump love how you said dirt bonding department it sounded like you were going to say burn but you corrected yourself you stuttered a little bit 😂 I thought a wad of grass was a snake 😂
You are absolutely right, that wall collapsing is exactly why you don't get in a trench. How much do you think that section weighed? Could be used as an OSHA video. Looks firm, collapses in an instant.
One of my helpers that had a lot more experience with utility work than I did suggested having a lifting hook eye welded on the top of the dipstick for occasions when you can't raise the dipstick like going down under trees. Supposed to lift about twice as much due to the pure geometry and physics of the arrangement. Wouldn't use it much but certain situations it could be a lifesaver.
When I was 15, I had a neighbor who was SMOKING HOT. 😵 She was about 35. She was Playmate hot. Her name is Pandora. Every time I hear the Pandora's Box thing, takes me right back to 1986 and all the crusty towels.😬🙆 😅😁
When we had our pond built, we got $10,000 from NRCS. But by doing that we had to build it “their way”. That included making the outlet from 24” smooth 1/4” wall steel pipe, with all joints welded 360 degrees around. It needed to be 130 ft long to meet their specs for the dam face slope. That pipe and fabrication was $8,000. Almost as much as they contributed to the project. If I hadn’t taken their $10,000, my builder would have used the plastic pipe like you did, which would cost me less than $3,000 (3 yrs ago). Because of that and a couple of other things they required, and we had to correct/change two years later, I would have been better off not taking the government money.
Did you say that fill was from an old homestead if so that was some big chunks for a house foundation, just saying.great video as always, great job. Would it be worthwhile to cleanup all the fallen trees and limbs out of the pond for a cleaner look.just saying.just keepdoing your thing.be safe.👍👍👍😎😎😎
