Hi Tanya, just wanted to say that all of your video tutorials are so easy to follow as you explain the individual steps superbly, I highly recommend your videos to anyone. Thank you and keep up the good work, a big thumbs up!
Hi Tanya, I just wanted to say thank you, I have learned so much from you and I appreciate how you take the time to explain and take us step by step. You are amazing
Excellent tutorial. Very easy to follow. I ordered the lead you had the link for, and now I have my 2TB external drive connected, with my movies and TV shows listed on MX Player app. Works perfectly, thank you!
Hi Tanya I think your the best person on UA-cam thank you for sharing all the information about firestick apps and what we can do with them I really appreciate your help 😊
You can also add extra storage by connecting a storage device to the USB port on your router if it has one fitted. If you have more than one Firestick and Android Boxes they can all access this storage without adding storage to each device individually. You can play stored movies using vlc player or open files with es explorer. It might be worth doing video on this Tanya.
Fantastic video and presentation Tanya. Found out why the videos were not able to be recognized/transferred onto 1TB Hard Drive....Some of them were up to 16GB in size and FAT32 only recognizes up to 4GB in size....will have to compress some of the videos. Great tutorial...thanks again
Hi, am I able to use this method and record IPTV recordings directly to an external hard drive and would I need to move my IPTV app to my external first and not have it on the Fire OS? Will X-Plore be needed with IPTV recordings? Also, are you able to recommend an external hard drive (brand and size) that will work best and am I able to use a SSD and is there any benefit to using an SSD? 2TB is the max right? I have the second generation FireStick. A response would greatly be appreciated thank you for all of these useful videos!
@@armenbeats2477 Unfortunately, you won't be able to do this with an old Firestick. I recommend upgrading to a new version - amzn.to/3ZQk7EE. However, I cannot guarantee that with a newer Firestick you can move your IPTV app to an external storage drive.
@@FireTVSticks For some reason the 4K MAX does not display as well as the older 2nd Generation on my old 720P Samsung TV and I messed with display settings. I get white spots during times of a black screen between commercials and especially during rolling credits. And you are correct I cannot move apps but found a workaround to just transfer recordings from the IPTV app from X-Plore to the flash drive and watch them later off the drive to save space on the 8GB stick and not have recordings stack up. Thank you very much for all of your help!
Thank you Tanya for all your helpful hints and videos. I do have a question though. Everything you said was spot on and your direction was on point. My problem is when it’s time for updates, I’m prompted to do so but am always told I don’t have any room and to update later. Do I need to delete wanted programs? Is there any other remedy? Thanks
Unfortunately, this does appear to be an issue. As far as I am aware there are only 2 choices: 1) Uninstall the app and then re-install the updated app 2) Move the app to your internal storage, update the app and move it back to the external storage. Sorry I cannot give you a better answer that that right now. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
I have an external hard drive that I wanted to use. I was able to use the AOMEI Partition Assistant to Partition just 32GB by using the Resize/Move Partition feature of the Software. I did this to keep the portion of the drive separate from my firestick drive. Once I created it, I formatted to FAT32 and it worked perfectly after I saved everything.
Hi , greetings from and ex Brit living in America I’m glad I found your channel . My question is once you plug in the external storage will the FireStick know too use that as well ?? Is that how it works ?? Thanks .
Hi. For adding storage, it is a different process depending on which Fire Operating System (Fire OS) you have. If you only want to attach additional storage to save and share files with your Fire TV, this video will show you how. The storage drive could be too large. As Fire TV devices are formatted to FAT32, the maximum size of USB storage that you can use is 2TB, however, Amazon officially recommends using USB drives that are 128GB or smaller. Amazon also recommends that high speed USB 3.0 drives are used, even though Fire TV Devices have a 2.0 USB port because USB 3.0 drives tend to have faster read/write speeds and will perform better, even when connected to USB 2.0 ports. You also need to be aware that with this process, your Fire TV device is likely to run slower when launching apps and moving around the menus as files on your USB storage cannot be read as fast as they can be read directly on the internal device storage. I hope this helps. Hey Tanya, thank you so much for your extensive knowledge and for your excellent way of explaining things. I refer to your channel a lot. I have just purchased a 256B Sandisk flash drive 3.1. I went through every step because the first workaround wouldn’t work due to the capacity of the memory 30gb. I downloaded (AOMEI partition’s assistance demo) and followed every instruction as shown in your video and was finally pleased to see FAT32. I was thinking this is great, easy, but as soon as I applied the settings it told me that the “demo version is for evaluation purposes only”. It wants me to “upgrade with a discount” but I was under the impression it was a free application, with a Choice to purchase a premium, but It wasn’t something I felt I needed more than once and I felt I didn’t need to take any further action after formatting my USB memory drive. I got all the way to the end then I got a screen saying I can no longer go any further without agreeing to sign up to it. Can you help me find a work around? Is there an alternative application as I simply want to provide more storage to my fire stick which I’ve stopped using because of the constant interruptions regarding storage. Any help would be very much appreciated! Keep up the great work and I hope to speak with you. Many thanks. 🤞🤞🤞🩵

Hey Ya Tanya....Love Your Videos!! Question for ya... I have gone thru all the steps,OTG cable,USB 30gig, X-plore file manager.Formatting etc. I have moved several apps over to USB with X-plore. I have now freed up over 2 gig on internal storage. Great!! I have done this in my Firestick in LR & BR. Everything went jus fine.... Here's the deal.... A few days after I did all this the little USB icon is not there anymore when you go to "Manage Installed Applications" only on the BR Firestick. It still shows up on the LR stick. All apps are still working fine and it still shows over 2 gig free space on internal. So.... That means they are still on USB... Right?? What-The-Heck?? I don't understand what happened only on one stick?? Do you know? Does Anybody know? What Should I do.. Ignore the missing icon?? Thanks.....
You can still open the apps that are installed on the external drive even though the USB icon is not showing? The USB icon was showing previously correct? Yes, you can expand the storage on 4K Firestick, Fire Cube, Fire TV Stick Lite and new HD Firestick. I'm sorry, but it seems like AOMEI Partition Assistant isn't compatible with Chromebooks. You might want to try searching online for free partition software that is compatible with your device.
There could be several ways to resolve this. 1) Is your storage formatted to FAT32? 2) Restart your device. Unplug it from the power supply and unplug your power supply from the power source. Wait at least 30 seconds then re-boot everything and try again. 3) Do you have an alternative USB storage device you can use to try this with instead? 4) Do you have an alternative OTG cable you can try? I have checked everything to include having a version 6 OS, I correctly formatted the USB as Fat 32 with default allocation, I correctly attach the USB to my Fire TV stick 4K, I verified the information entered into the ADB shell, and my USB drive is still not seen or recognized. This is the OTG adapter that I use and recommend: OTG Adapter Amazon US - amzn.to/3fWog4T Amazon UK - amzn.to/3sZPrzj So long as you have formatted the drive to FAT32 and you have everything connected correctly, the USB drive should show up when you go into Xplore as shown in this video. I've got exactly the same problem. It seems like the OTG cable won't pass the power to two items connected. If you use the genuine ethernet adapter with the micro usb connection if you wire that to get power first the USB port won't work, if you wire the power wire the other way the ethernet adapter won't get power but the USB port will!!

Fire OS 6 is correct. The 4K Firestick and Fire OS 6 is based on Android 7.1. Fire OS 7 devices are based on Android 9.0. I assume that the 4K Firestick, being based on Android 7.1 is not capable of being upgraded to Fire OS 7 as it would also need to be upgraded through 2 levels of Android, Android 8 and Android 9.0 and there may not be an easy way of doing this on the 4K Firestick without an even bigger update, which may not even be possible to roll out to millions of devices which is why they have chosen to keep the 4K Firestick on Fire OS 6. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

Suppose the application you're using to record allows you to manually specify the location of the recording folder. In that case, you can use X-plore to create a folder on your external storage and point the app to that location.
A little confused here. I have a FireTV, the square metal box. Its has Fire OS 5.2.7.8 on it. My problem is I don't have any more storage for additional apps. You mentioned early on this would not work for system storage. Would there be a way to increase my storage for apps on my system?

Yes, this could be a potential cause of your buffering. When I unplug the hard drive it works normal. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I personally use and recommend the SanDisk 32GB Flash Drive

Hi Tanya what do you do if your computer does not recognize your flash drive?

I have two question ….on the firestick 4K 3rd Gen can you store videos using the method allowing the firestick to recognize the USB device or is it possible to move files to external storage on 3rd Gen firestick using X-Plorer file manager (I do not see the external drive/storage when using X-Plorer)
You can move files to the storage drive using X-plore. Have you formatted the storage to FAT32?
hi.tanya please need help I want install extra storage on my fire stick 4k but I can't see my USB is showing
Hi. For adding storage, it is a different process depending on which Fire Operating System (Fire OS) you have. If you only want to attach additional storage to save and share files with your Fire TV, this video will show you how: ua-cam.com/video/LQ7Na-hzeX4/v-deo.html
If you want to attach additional storage so that you can use that storage to get more space to install apps, you will need to follow a different process depending on which version of the Fire operating system your device is running on.
If you are not sure which Fire OS you have, please watch this very short video on my website: firetvsticks.com/device-help/firestick/help-firestick/firestick-howto/how-to-check-what-software-version-your-fire-device-is-running/ then choose the correct video tutorial to watch from below:
Fire OS 5: Not possible to increase storage for more apps. But you can still attach storage to share files as above.
Fire OS 6: ua-cam.com/video/TAy1VTaJk2o/v-deo.html
Fire OS 7: ua-cam.com/video/xilUcuHpk3Y/v-deo.html
Once you have use either these methods for increasing your app storage on Fire OS 6 devices, you can then move your apps using this method - ua-cam.com/video/Vv96IEZoyz4/v-deo.html

Will I be able to offload shows from the firestick to my pc as well as?

Not that I know, sorry.
Hey there. I'm hoping you might be able to give me a pointer as to why my SanDisk 32GB Ultra Flair is not being seen by my Fire TV stick 4K. I have checked everything to include having a version 6 OS, I correctly formatted the USB as Fat 32 with default allocation, I correctly attach the USB to my Fire TV stick 4K, I verified the information entered into the ADB shell, and my USB drive is still not seen or recognized. I have watched your video four times. I have used three other OTG cables / adapters. When I enter the IP address into the ADB shell, then follow with the "sm list-disks" command, it only returns the same response prompt, "mantis: /$". There is no info related to an external disk. The "df -h" only returns information on the internal storage. There is nothing to indicate an external USB is attached anywhere.
This USB drive can be read by my laptop and PC, but not by the Fire Stick.
Please, can you tell me why it does not?
I prefer to use SanDisk, or Toshiba branded storage drives as I’ve yet to experience any issues using these brands with any of my Firesticks. For more information and advice on Firestick storage, please refer to this updated guide - firetvsticks.com/how-to-increase-firestick-storage/.

On the 4K Firestick, when you add additional system storage, you will not be able to see the increase in storage space within the Fire TV Settings. if you added storage using the method shown in this video, you will only be able to see your external storage with a file explorer app such as X-plore.

What is the best external storage for apps.
What storage you use is down to you, but there are few things you need to consider when choosing your USB storage. I personally use and recommend the SanDisk 32GB Flash Drive
Amazon US - amzn.to/3aYwuGe
Amazon UK - amzn.to/3vQy05t
Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️

That is correct. You do not need to root the device.

This is the OTG adapter that I use and recommend:
OTG Adapter
Amazon US - amzn.to/3fWog4T
Amazon UK - amzn.to/3sZPrzj
So long as you have formatted the drive to FAT32 and you have everything connected correctly, the USB drive should show up when you go into Xplore as shown in this video. This is the only way you will be able to see your storage on the 4K Firestick. Thank you for watching 😊👍❤️
Great video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Everything is working fine except for one problem I hope you have a video on. I can’t seem to get external storage to show up under my fire TV/about/storage. Should I use the ADB video you have? Hi Tanya got my update on 4k stick still says os6 should it be os7 thanks luv

Hello I have a question I got a FireTV so it comes It installed internaly already how would i be able to add storage to the tv ? Thank you
Yes. you should be able to plug additional USB storage directly into a USB port on your Fire TV.
I did everything she says it works but when i turned my tv off and turned it again on my hdd didn’t run its like on a loop on and off on and off or something i think it’s a low voltage problem can you help me with this problem? Your HDD may need extra additional power. I recommend using 32GB MicroSD Card such as this which does not require extra power: amzn.to/3s3xDSF.

If u set it up how u done can u recode from the firestick to the External hard drive?
Suppose the application you're using to record allows you to manually specify the location of the recording folder. In that case, you can use X-plore to create a folder on your external storage and point the app to that location.
A little confused here. I have a FireTV, the square metal box. Its has Fire OS 5.2.7.8 on it. My problem is I don't have any more storage for additional apps. You mentioned early on this would not work for system storage. Would there be a way to increase my storage for apps on my system?
Unfortunately, you cannot increase the storage for apps on any Fire TV device running Fire OS 5 as it is running on an older operating system.
