- There are a lot of videos out there on stereotypes about the Brits as a nation but I want to give you an understanding of how us Brits think about each other when we meet. To start I'm talking about the North, South divide in England.

My culture is my identity and personality, it gives me spiritual, intellectual and emotional distinction from others. But Having friends from other cultures makes me more creative. In fresh ways about space and how people create their own world and environment. It is best way to connect between creative thinking and cross-cultural relationships.
Very nice comment Sakura! A brilliant way of looking at life.
lovely video Charlie! love the way you explained things which really allows me to understand British people more. the way you introduce the sponsor is brilliant by the way.
Very similar to the North/South divide in Sweden. Stockholm & Uppsala in the south are always seen as weak posh snobs (including other southerners). North of Uppsala people are seen as strong countrymen. But also more homophobic, sexist and narrow minded.
I love northern parts of England. The nature and natural landscape is so amazing. Especially Yorkshire dales and the Lake District.
I was American traveling around, and I really liked Newcastle, a real friendliness from the locals there, although I had trouble understanding their accents half the time
Fantastic video Charlie!
That's interesting, Charlie!
I'd say is similar in my country (Brazil) if I compare South with North/Northeast.
Cool! I'll be looking out for the rest of the series! :)
It's interesting to hear the perspective of someone who is actually from the UK, and not a fellow traveller/ learner. Kudos to you, because it can be a sensitive topic to tackle, and I think you did it very nicely :)
BTW, in France I believe we do have a North-South kind of divide too... I never really took the time to contemplate the subject, but I can sometimes feel an "undercurrent" going on.
Fantastic video.🤩 Thank you for showing the definitions👍 and giving so much interesting information about North and South.🔥 Looking forward to new videos. 😊
The whole video I couldn't stop thinking about Not Going Out and poor Lee. He had to endure so many jokes about being from the North.
In every country there are hidden ideas about cultural stereotypes. The most important thing is laughing about it with wit and humour. In my country, in Italy, there are many differences between northern and southern people, in positive and negative ways🤣
THE BEST CHANNEL TO LEARN ENGLISH ❤️
Great video, Charlie! I'm going to send it to my students!
great! keep on doing these series about cultural curiosities about the Uk, please. :)
Excellent video! Very interesting! Please make more content like this!
Glad to hear you want more Phoebe!
Interesting content! I was not aware of so many different stereotypes between South and North, except the accent. Impressed with the one about manliness. Thank you for bringing it up! A friend of mine (Spanish) was studying in Brighton in the Sussex University (South) and he did not manage to get British friends, although he met so many friends from all around the world! He said that Brits were quite arrogant during the day and kinda repulsive at nights partying... I hope he just got a bad luck, because there are exceptions everywhere.
Yes, I can confirm British people don't generally like people from other countries... I think the cultural barrier is too big. Some are very closed-minded and some other really struggle to approach you. Some other are curious and will interact with you. As always, it depends on the single case! 😊
Yes please Charlie, make videos about different regions of the UK.
I was waiting for those differences between south and north in the UK. Amazing series coming
😅
"I recommend increasing the speed to 2X while watching this clip. It'll be okay; not too slow and won't be boring." 😂
as a northerner (north east
I'd love a series talking more about different areas in the UK! 😃 I'm leaving in Nottingham and when I traveled I did feel there's a difference between North and South.. 😬
Your reaction to the sponsor was great and made me keep on watching! :) Great video, too.
Also here in Italy there are lots of stereotypes - we have the word campanilismo ( from campana=bell ) to describe how certain people have prejudices about the inhabitants of the next village - where you find another church bell
watching this to understand the jokes on British tv lol
Why am I watching this? I’m English. Lolll
*Excellent work! Thanks.*
Thanks Phil!

Yes, I did play your 'weird face' moment THRICE 🤣🤣🤣🤣
haha new you would like that Ian
Frightfully interesting !
I lived in Midhurst, at Cowdray Park Polo Club, for three years. None of my friends had an accent. They spoke goooorgeous English like yours and Harry's. They called a loo a loo, a sofa a sofa, a pudding a pudding, a napkin a napkin, etc, etc.....you know ! Hahahahha
Les mando a los dos un abrazo enorme desde Olivos, Buenos Aires, Argentina🇦🇷🏴🇬🇧
TIL the midlands are the Bakersfield of England
Place these words in the order you hear them: stereotype, North, South, divide, poke, joke, butt and LAUGHTER 😁😁😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣❤🧡💛💚💙💜❤🧡💛💚💙💜 Loved your video!
BTW, nice voice change at 7:22 !!! hahahah ;D
Thank you!!! You’re incredible!!! 💚🇧🇷 Obrigada!
Instantly could tell you were from London or below after a few mins of analysing you. Yer nashers are to shiny for the North and accent to posh for anything above london. The stereotypes are not out dated. In my opinion they are spot on for the most part. Of course there are lots of execptions, but most of us live in the Midlands¡
😂
You took a slippery slope and that shows manliness. Not bad for a Southerner ;-)
(Are you chuckling or did I sound offensive? Just trying to understand!👼🏻 )
haha I'm chuckling. Thanks for the comment extraitaliana!
Great video. Thank you. Dear teacher, could you recommend me specific place of southern England wich use RP as default accent naturally to immerse & acquiring accent . 🙏
Thanks Charlie for your video; I really appreciated it.
Actually, also in my Country, Italy, a kind of challenge between Northern and Southern native exist.
However can you explain me what does "Hi N/A" means?
n/a (not available), we often use this when we don't have a name or person available :)
@@benhancock6253 thanks
Thanks so much for sharing so much info, love your channel guys! I have a question(hope is not offensive, in this day and age that everything is offensive 🙄) do you have Indian ancestry? Asking you because my best friend Andy is half Indian and looks kinda like you(his granny was from India)
Genius
I initially would have thought, the Adrian wall would have indicated the divide line between north and south. WHat are called those who live in the extreme north?
One of the reason some of us northerners may dislike the south is due to the whole thatcher situation not long ago sadly. Then there may be general resentment from the worse quality of life of some places and shorter lifespans such as comparing Westminster in London with an expected 84.9 years for men and 87.2 for women in 2017 - 2019 to some cities. If we compare that to Hull between 2015 and 2017 when the life expectancy was 75.9 years for men and 79.9 years for women then we can see why some people may be mardy. Liverpool also more recently decreased to an average of 76.7 years old sadly. Many would despise southerners personally for this but i don't really see why since they are not to blame for it and we are all people. I enjoyed the video and i wasn't offended at all by anything said, I'm a bit thick skinned from the calluses from the mines. Keep up the good work.
How very interesting to read. Thank you for the comment.
I’m also glad you can see the silver lining to your days spent underground 😂
I was just wondering If you might be interested about reviewing movie such as Harry Potter and Game of Thrones, you could review such by giving insights about language being used in. I would be very wonderful if you could do things like this.. :)
Am I mistaking or do British people pronounce the -er sequence in "better" like the Germans do? Anway, I think England is not the only place where the difference between South and North exists. In Italy for example, we make a remarkable distinction among south, center and north Italy. The south is known to be poorer than the other two regions. Those who live in the north are known to be more like Germans: they have no humor and they live in an industrialized region. People who live in the centre do not fell neither pertaining to the north nor to the south. We simply feel indipendent. Furthermore, most of the italian culture come from the middleland, which we are proud of. Southerners are culturally very dfferent if compared to to the others. I personally like them but others might not agree about this.
Best
Do you speak a standard British accent accent / Rp?
Hi Parvesh, yes I do
@@realenglishwithrealteacher4777 Thank you so much for replying
Could you please recommend some youtube from England with Standard British pronunciation?

You can tell Northerners always have an "undercurrent" against Southerners 😋 But what I personally noticed is Northerners being more annoyed towards American people, for example, because they can't stand their accent! I think British people are very patriotic amongst all, but also Northerners are definitely angry at Southerners because of the different gov money distribution 😋 (I'm not a native speaker)
You must have come across some right idiots. Most Northerners can't tell the difference between Americains and Canadians for a start .
Communication can be difficult sure but there are ways around it . But I genreal I can say I haven't come across anyone in the North with a dislike of accents.
And we Aren't annoyed at the Southerns at all . They rarely come up at all in conversation.
We are angry with the powers that may be.
@@hannahdyson7129 Yes I have probably come across right idiots, undoubtedly ☹☹☹ I think people who live in cities are very different from people living in towns and also people from different generations think differently... It's good to know there are some open-minded friendly people 😊😊😊
Why does he talk like he’s a bit.. slow??
Haha are you a non-native?
Real English With Real Teachers Wow thanks for replying lol. Yes, English is my second language. Also no offense intended it came off wrong sorry :p
