President Obama declared sending humans on a roundtrip to Mars by the mid 2030s. Traveling in space is hard and dangerous! A discussion of the inspiration of space and of NASA’s “Journey to Mars” plan. The need for diversity and collaboration to foster innovation and be successful in such daring adventures is also discussed. Recorded at TEDxBaltimore January 2016.
Aprille is the first African-American woman to receive a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Howard University. She is currently an aerospace engineer at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
