The reason Dave is un-cancellable now is because he's hit rock bottom in life when he walked away from his career due to creative differences. He defends the art of comedy and the freedom to express yourself as you so wish. He protects freedom of speech with his stances, when he was rebuilding himself, he kept humble. He did small comedy clubs again as if he was just starting out, he then got his Netflix special which garnered new and old fans alike. He's also one of the last few comedians of an old era that still speaks about divisive topics. He's become a unicorn and people feel the need to protect him and his art. He's very niche and the last of his kind. This is why you cannot remove his voice, the people simply want him to stay.
i wouldnt quite call that rock bottom. i doubt he was struggling financially. sure he walked away from doing what he loved but if you know him you know it wasnt a permanent thing. if anything is quite the opposite because this was the catalyst for the progression for who we know today as dave chappelle.

If you're going to talk about what black people have to do, black people have a say in that conversation. There's a word for forcing people to behave the way you say without question. A conversation is a two-way exchange. If you want to just talk and make everybody listen without question, you want to preach. In which case, you have no interest in a "conversation" by any metric. @@smeksii_yozhik Mockery and perpetuating cruel stereotypes aren't good-faith "conversations" in the first place. People saying they don't want that done to them isn't some outrageous or unreasonable demand, nor is it an attempt to shut down legitimate conversation. It is, instead, a declaration that conversations require respect, and that if you're not willing to be respectful, you shouldn't be trying to pretend that your insults are adding value to the discourse. You're trying to hide behind this idea that a conversation is between two people, but that's just a cover for trying to justify bigoted depictions under the excuse of, "No, see, you have let OUR voice be heard, too!" And no, your voice doesn't HAVE to be heard until your intentions are good. Until then, your voice is just being used as a weapon to oppress, not a tool of reconciliation. No one HAS to put up with that.
@@wasd____ Look, as much as I'd like to sit here and keep this going, I honestly have better things to do. That said, one last verse before I go: "You're trying to hide behind the idea that a conversation is between two people" is possibly the most pathetic rebuttal I've seen on this site. I am literally referring to both formal and informal definitions of "conversation." Oxford Dictionary even says verbatum "a talk, especially an informal one, between two or more people, in which news and ideas are exchanged." This is not "the idea that." It is the literal meaning of a conversation. You have some serious stones to insist that conversations need mutual respect and then in the same breath tell me I have to keep quiet for one's entirety. So you're entirely wrong on how any of that works on two points alone. As a bonus, because this bit just irked me; who the hell are you judge my intentions? And what authority gives YOU the right to just do so, but then I'm "bigoted" to dare question? Gimme a break. I know you may mean well, but any social ideology that has a "ok for me, not for them" clause is hypocrisy. One that ought to be better recognized by now
Perfectly said, it isn't him vs the LGBTQ community, it's about what he can talk about. This man called the community lovely, openly, how could a man with such a heart be seen as hateful.

@bobby macdermott He never vilified trans people in his comments, he vilified the system for not allowing him to speak about the trans community, it is the influence of the higher ups that are discriminatory, not a single man.
Because he lied about my condition. I was ok with him making fun of my appearance. But trying to say my condition is fake is unscientific and crossing the line. It creates real world bullying by cis people who are the ones who bullied Daphne. Thats another lie he told to vilify the trans community. All this hate towards trans women specifically. It seems everyone is fine with trans men. But trans women are the most hated to where all these comments are blind to their own hate and lack of understanding and acceptance.

@Proper To make fun of everyone equally is the average stance of a comedian. To find the funny sides to life. It's his job to literally: make.fun. Any minority that has been physically or verbally abused does not experience abuse as a direct result of comedy. Comedy is not abuse. Abuse is abuse. I feel like Dave is swaying more towards a speaker than a comedian. Either way his words are powerful! He can be serious and funny. Everyone takes something with them at his shows. GOAT 🐐
Dave Mode, only time will tell if history will be kind or cruel to Dave. I understand the woke movement and how they want to force Dave's comedy to conform to today's standards, but comedy (or truth telling) can never conform to pressure.
Staying true to yourself always scare away “sheep” in “wolf” clothing! No one likes a MAN or WOMAN who stands behind how they feel or what they believe💯
Dave Chappelle is a Comedy Ninja Warrior.. I feel like he may be the only comedian that can have a REAL conversation, still be funny but still get his word across.. GOAT

Agreeing w him would never be from a position of hate, because he did not say what he said from a position of hate 😊. It was a freaking joke, he’s a comedian. Comedians used to be able to ‘get away’ with almost anything & somehow it just seems that some things should still be safe from cancel culture. I am a liberal, I believe in a lot of the thinking behind woke-ism, but I also think comedy is one of those places where you should be able to say what you write, as long as it makes people laugh & it’s not meant to be cruel. Dave Chapelle is not cruel, but he KILLS every time he walks onto a stage! #DaveChapelleKills
All due respect, because I know what your saying… Dave doesn’t require your agreement or mine (although he has it)…. Those who are “offended”? They’re the ones who require validation…. They’re the ones who want agreement….. not Dave.
Yes. He is not my favorite comedian per se, but he is a fucking hero. He is a sole voice against insanity of the mass dumbness that took charge of our communication and lives.
@Proper How can anyone with a rational mind even respond to this? Are you comparing a joke with black face minstrel? The difference being the intention of character and context, one being the personification of racism and the other being a joke to be taken in character and context.
This is largely the fault of the media. There was barely anyone at that Netflix protest. It was ironic that the people who say they want a safe environment attacked 2 people waving signs that said "We love Dave" and "We like jokes". The media then attempted to portray those 2 people as the aggressors, falsely accusing one of them of shouting obscenities at the "peaceful" protestors that had attacked him, broke his sign, then falsely accused him of having a weapon so they could try and get him hurt. Why isn't the Netflix writer that was involved in that shit being fired? How is that acceptable behaviour? It's also ironic that one of the organisers of that protest has a history of making offensive tweets and jokes, calling gay people the F word and shit, but now that they're some spokesperson for "social justice", they get a pass.
I’m a transgender man and I have absolutely no issue with Him. He’s actually one of my favorite comedians and he is a genius.I think through his most recent special he actually helped us a lot. And honestly this whole community would be a lot easier to normalize if we went about it with a more comedic light hearted approach of expressing our identity’s (in some cases obviously not all) idk just my personal view. I still believe serious trans issues do need to be addressed but a comedy show is not the time or place for that. What Dave said may have hurt some people’s feelings but above all he’s helped our community in more ways than one.
I watched the Netflix special "The Closer", I can not see what all the fuss is about. Dave Chappelle has joked about EVERYTHING!!! Religion, Politics, Blacks, Whites and I have not seen any lines crossed. What he says and how he says it brings everything to the fore front of peoples minds, he definitely makes people think!
@@JayJones-xz1fl Also his Netflix special was by far the unfunniest one... which is why he probably rejected the multi-million dollar deal for the new Chappelle Show on Netflix... they probably try to censor his comedy routines and now they're coming after him, using the LGBTQ community as a means to an end... Anyway, Dave is way too smart to cancel him... he can't be cancelled cause he simply isn't asking for permission to speak his mind... you can't cancel someone that doesn't give a shit what you think about him...
"I can not see what the fuss is about" is understandable. There are huge amounts of money, (wo)man hours, and entities that are trying everything they can to remove free speech protections in this country. They are also trying to establish that certain groups are above the others, the people of this great nation. You can make fun of Jews (which I am). You can make fun of Christians (which I am). But don't you dare make jokes about Islam. That's forbidden. In that same vein, the alphabet people as they are known as are above being made the butt of jokes. Just like the religions you can make fun of and the ones you can't. The one thing I do better than anything else is make people laugh. I have every intention when the time is right to be on stage performing my comedy, whether it's a casual open mic night or in a packed auditorium. Jokes are meant to bring laughter. I forget who said it but it was simple and brilliant. "Jokes are just words you say with the end goal of making someone laugh. How ever you lay those words out is up to you." It's almost formulaic. I think many would agree that some of the funniest jokes are some of the most offensive. And that's okay in the confines of comedy. I don't get butt hurt when I hear Jew jokes. If the point is laughter and not *intentionally* destroying someone's life, that can be a different discussion. In the case of Dave, one of the greatest if not the absolute greatest, he represents someone that can't be bought. Someone that stands by what he says and doesn't apologize for his craft. And he shouldn't have to. I've lived outside of the USA, the greatest country in the world. I can tell you with certainty we have more freedoms and prosperity than the hyper majority of the world. People like Dave that can't be bought are dangerous to the continued success of the corporate interest groups he mentioned. The man is no fool.
When it comes to comedy there’s 2 rules the comedian and audience should abide by. 1) Anyone and everyone is allowed to be offended if they’re joked about. 2) Nobody is allowed to tell the comedian what he can joke about.
I feel the more people complain about the closer, the more they are making his point. I also feel his moral compass is well calibrated. Listen with your ears, your heart and not your mouth.

I didn't see how he said anything that would insult Trans people in the closer. He was pretty gentle with them IMO. This guy jokes about everything and everyone, why would he leave the trans people out of that list? In a lot of ways I consider him a philosopher. He makes you think about things from different perspectives.
It’s also the media… big news started a culture or controversy, of anger, of embellishment, and sensationalism. And now there’s hundreds of thousands of bloggers, hosts, and influencers that make their living off that model. Foaming at the mouth for something to point their judgement and outrage at. The trans community is very insecure. Judgement is just a natural response to dealing with our own insecurity.
You gotta understand, the ideology of that portion of the T community is that you're literally committing genocide against them if you don't agree with how they see themselves. They're insane, and they're totalitarian. It's not something you can sort out with common sense.
My comment (which was articulated respectfully and professionally) got deleted from this thread, merely for critiquing exactly where this portion of the ___ community has a totalitarian premise in their worldview. Let me see if I do better with this - they believe disagreeing with them or making a joke about them is literally the same thing as removing their entire group from the world, the word I'm looking for starts with a "g" and its what a German man with a unique moustache tried to do. They don't see a distinction, and thus think force is justified because they believe it's an act of self defense. Think about the pull this group has when social media companies will delete you merely for critiquing an IDEA from that group. This is why it's so important for Dave to confront this ideology and say no, we're not censoring speech because you have a premise like that in your thinking.

If you're going to talk about what white people have to do, white people have a say in that conversation.
Also, "white people should get to dominate conversations" strawman is strawman, stfu
You're trying to hide behind this idea that a conversation is between two people, but that's just a cover for trying to justify bigoted depictions under the excuse of, "No, see, you have let OUR voice be heard, too!"
And no, your voice doesn't HAVE to be heard until your intentions are good. Until then, your voice is just being used as a weapon to oppress, not a tool of reconciliation. No one HAS to put up with that.
@@wasd____ Look, as much as I'd like to sit here and keep this going, I honestly have better things to do. That said, one last verse before I go:
"You're trying to hide behind the idea that a conversation is between two people" is possibly the most pathetic rebuttal I've seen on this site.

Right!
he really looks hurt by the fact that people are so hostile about comedy, and rightfully so
everything I've heard Chappelle say ever, came from the heart and he just wants to spread joy and love
actually I think that is the problem people thinking a guy who made a joke about kicking someone in the pussy and a baby selling weed on the corner was dead serious when he said he was team terf. People are taking a guy known for doing satire to the heart. Some people forget that the guy is a performer and that his stage presence is an exaggerated version of himself..
Maybe because not all his jokes can be bangers and relies on controversy.
Hostile just about comedy? From left to right, there are so many people from both sides who just have to make every little thing political at every minute. Everyone needs to chill a bit lol

I remember Dave Chappell even when I was 12 years old. I learned how to be savage while also being funny when it came to his unbelievable comedy. That's the best gift a comedian can give a audience. To always have a time to laugh and not take everything so dam seriously.
i have a lot of friends in the lgbtq+ community who are uncomfortable with my support of dave. i asked all of them why and they each said because of what he said in the closer. i asked them have they seen the full special. none of them said yes. i watched it myself, and anything controversial he coul of possibly said was either a joke or a lead up to a joke. dave's a solid guy who we can all learn from.
I had to cut ties with some people just because of this. I can't have people in my live who formulate an opinion based on hearsay, instead actually going to watch the show and see for themselves.

That sounds strange at first but definitely hits the nail on the top. The art of Comedy/satire point out everything that concerns our society. No matter what it is. That's part of equal treatment in our everyday lives.
I’ll be Dave Chappelle fan for life. Some are hating him because of misinformation.
I think it also has a lot to do with blindly trusting the views of others. The bottom line is that most of those who criticize Dave seem to be doing so without actually having watched "The Closer" or at least read the transcript of Dave's words.
Yes, but it seems people these days go all in on hate based on misinformation, and their egos prevent them from self correcting, when they know the full story. I didn't see how he said anything that would insult Trans people in the closer. He was pretty gentle with them IMO. This guy jokes about everything and everyone, why would he leave the trans people out of that list? In a lot of ways I consider him a philosopher. He makes you think about things from different perspectives.

That's exactly true they didn't watch it
It’s also the media… big news started a culture or controversy, of anger, of embellishment, and sensationalism.
