A similar thing happened when I purchased 2 Latitude's 3 years ago. When arrived I was unable to access anything due to password protection in the BIOS and the hard drives password protected. I am reluctant to buy anything used on eBay since then. Those Latitudes were only P3's so I didn't try to upgrade them. Thought I'd keep them for parts since I couldn't resolve issue with the seller, but nothing was really usable since most parts were outdated. Glad to hear you received some type of resolve.
I've owned the E series Latitude laptops for years. Well engineered, and what I liked about the 6410 I owned was the high res display. It was far nicer just overall than my t420. Dell really packs nice displays, and hardware in general. The 6400 series was Dell's high end of that series after all so users should expect decent stuff. The 6420 and higher even had a tri-metal design. For a business laptop it was bold and as much as I love my t420, it just doesn't come close as far as looks and durability. A few years ago I was recommending this series for girls in college not even on a budget. If you have ever held one of these laptops in your hand, you could understand why. I wouldn't want that thrown at me! The 6500 series is even more of a girth, but man I wouldn't want to walk around with that beast in my bookbag.
I found an Acer M Aspire laptop in the trash 6 months ago, took it home, cleaned it up, did a clean install on the windows 8.1 os, and this bad boy has been smoking ever since. Best deal I've ever got. Thanks Mr. Trashman!
I got lucky. About a year or two ago, purchased a sony vaio that said i7 with 1gb vram and 1gb hdd for parts for 76$. It arrived with 16gb ram ddr3 and a Samsung Evo 850 500gb ssd.
I don't think you realize the actual value in the laptop, even considering the inconsistencies with the purchase. I had the DL E6410 w/ i7 620m in 2015. I swapped out the HDD for a SSD and installed OS X Mavericks on it, then I used a Startech Dual HDD Dock w/ e-sata to mount a hard drive for Linux GNOME 15.04 connected to the e-sata port. Then I had Windows 10 Developer Edition also in the dock on a HDD connected via e-sata to sata female adapter connected to where the DVD drive used to be. Probably my favorite laptop of all time. Now, I used it at the office so it was essentially a desktop and I even removed the screen to slide it behind the monitors I was using. You got a great deal and max it out to 8GB and if you dare, install the i7 720 QM CPU and you'll have a very good workstation that's pretty nifty.
I recently bought a Dell Latitude E5500 off eBay and that too has some play in the hinges. It's literally the sixth second-hand laptop I've bought off eBay and is the first time I've ever experienced that.
there are four screws on the back of the laptop that are related to the hinge that become loose overime, if you give them a snug it'll remove that play in the display
Hey AACAT! I picked up a dell e6410 at my local pawnshop in near perfect condition! I love it! Unfortunately it did not have the nvidia graphics i was hopeful for but I can play all my favorite games on medium to high settings with no problem. I enjoy your vids and I do the same thing you do and enjoy it! If you ever need anything let me know!
I have a Dell Latitude E6410 as my main laptop. Overall a fairly solid laptop. Bought mine on eBay, which came with an I7-620M and 8GB of ram for around $130 + free shipping. Working on making a couple of upgrades with it. A motherboard with dedicated graphics so I can use the I7 720M.
I have bought a bunch of laptops off Ebay. Only one time did I have a problem and the seller traded it with a different laptop with the same Specs. I have never spent more than $150. Usually buy them without a hard drive.
Ebay - you pays you pays your money and you takes your chances. I've bought several Amazon "Renewed" pieces, and they were all delivered in virtually New condition, they warranty them for 30 days, and I saved a ton of money.
Note to all: Don't even get a drop of water on this series of Dell's, my dad once poored a bit of water on the top and all the usb ports broke and just recently I dropped a droplet of water on the keyboard, and then the keyboard backlight broke plus many keys stopped working. Just be careful with liquids, and don't leave the laptop on carpet in a hot room while running servers etc mine got soooo hot once and over heated. Lastly careful with the hinges they aren't the best, they can get a bit wobbly.
I have a 6400 and a 6420. The 6400 has a weird GFX card issue where the screen shrank during boot, but then goes back to normal once Windows 10 launches. The 6420 is a good machine, but is starting to show its age. I have a 6410 at work that is slated for recycling, soon. I may add it to my collection.
I hate to say this but in the last 8 months my amazon boxes were broken into and re taped and they looked just like yours. the last go-around was an intercom system with 3 stations and when they came the box looked ok with amazon tape but there were only 2 stations and no paperwork, no packing! i sent it all back got it resent and when it came it had the 3 stations with a "tun" of paperwork and all kinds of packing.it just might not be the laptop you ordered.someone else has it.
That's not the case here. There would be no point in finding another of the same laptop just to swap them. It's simply false advertising because the seller hopes nobody who buys it will know what they're doing. It's just a laptop someone stole, and then posted on ebay with fake specs to make a profit.
Although its missing a few items this laptop doesn't look too bad and i only looked for like two minutes. www.ebay.com/itm/HP-ProBook-6475b-A4-4300M-APU-2-5GHz-4gb-RAM-DVD-RW-Webcam-Laptop-Computer/202192880427?hash=item2f13a2832b:g:SGQAAOSwogpaYEbA
Dude I love these little laptops! Great budget machines that are remarkably tough! I had a 3.0 ghz Core 2 Duo e6400 model that I just sold. It served me well for years. Currently I am using a e6410 identical to the one you thought you were getting in the video. Only difference is mine actually came maxed out with 8GB RAM though. (paid $65) They are insanely easy to cannibalize and/or upgrade. The batteries and a lot of the internal parts are cheap to obtain. I swapped out my upgraded battery, power supply, and 500GB SSD from my e6400 to upgrade my e6410. You can actually upgrade the processor to the i7 740-840 series quad cores for under $70 as they use the same socket configuration as well. There are a couple videos out there on UA-cam demonstrating this if you wanna give the e6410 a chance. It is worth it IMO.
Not really. I bought a laptop on eBay for $150. It came exactly as advertised. Intel Core I5 2520m, 8GB ram, 500gb HD. The guy literally has a STACK of em like 4 feet high lol.
A little about laptops and ram for the future. Except for a very few recent ultra high end laptops they only have 1 or two ram slots. If you see one of the two empty no need to look for a slot under the keyboard. I'm betting the seller knew exactly what he/she was doing and knowingly posted a bogus ad hoping the buyer wouldn't know the difference. I would be more concerned about the ram than the cpu. You would never notice the difference between the 560 and the 540 anyway except in benchmarks. I'm running a 520 in my T410 and it runs like a dream performance wise.
I appreciate the tip. Yeah, the RAM is my biggest issue. It also turns out that the BIOS is locked too (did not notice till after the video). I don't see how this could be an accident, there is no way the seller missed all of this, especially considering how small they are.
For the BIOS lock try Booting into hirens boot cd/mini windows XP. Click on the HBCDMenu and go to programs/password and keys/BIOS Master password generator. Open it. Type 1 and then enter the serial number. It should now give you the master BIOS password for that computer. This password should work no matter what the user has set as the password. so its a good idea to keep it on file
Thank you guys so very much, i love reading all te super secret tips, clues, , it reminds me of the times i was hanging with some pot smoking detectives , thanks i'll keep it safe, i'll hide it in a safe spot, no one will ever hear of with the admin, password, and the administrator one as well
I've been trying it for a while with Thinkpads, (T410 mostly as their parts are cheapest right now) but it's not been very profitable. It's best if you get a large joblot of broken ones and joblots or parts, avoid buying ones individually, because you'll end up needing this extra part, and that part too and this, and it ends up being very expensive. This is just my experience here in Denmark though, the market in your country is likely very different, so maybe if you're ready to take the risk
What are the general parts you have found that you need? I know most in the states are missing HDD's, most of the time the caddy too, and sometimes ram, batteries, etc.
Yes agreed i really dislike people false advertising stuff I got scammed a little on Amazon for refurbished hp comqac desktop At least i got a good scam it said it had an old core 2 Duo with 2 cores made about ~2007 but i got a really better cpu which was really good i3 with 4 cores from around ~2011
I got a used GTX 650 before which the seller advertised as working, but didn't in 2 PCs and all ports on 3 monitors. But I got my money and shipping cost back.
@@sarasartori6859 Might sound pretentious, but you really have to know what you are looking at when it comes to these things. You really cannot have no knowledge and have a realistic chance of getting a good deal, and good sense is really necessary. In these cases you may have people giving you an absolute steal, but cannot properly package anything to survive shipping, a shitty deal for junk, or a recycling company just looking to shift product quickly, and give good deals.
I bought an X61 tablet with ultrabase from eBay. The pictures showed it being in a mint condition. It arrived in a mint condition (clean and everything), except the right side (screem, chassis, ultrabase) was cracked. The screen only displays the left half side. But everything else still works, even the touch input. The packaging wasn't really protective of the device. What should I do? It's inconvenient for both of us if I return it since it's only 1 unit and we live on 2 opposite sides of the world. A partial refund's a good idea, right?
first mistake - buying from eBay unless the seller is 100%. second mistake - not getting the service tag number which will show on the manufacturer's website how the machine was configured to begin with. Glad though the seller was able to refund you some cash. getting the additional RAM shouldn't be an issue (locally) every PC shop has boxes of older RAM they'd either sell you (for a couple bucks a stick) or even give you if you ask nicely.
I have a deal that I am considering, and given your laptop videos, it seems like you would be the perfect person to get some advice from. I have someone offering me a Lenovo U530 (i7, gtx730m) for 200 dollars. Its in good condition, only wear and tear on the outside. Is 200 dollars a reasonable price for this 4 year old laptop? Or should I continue looking elsewhere? Thank you again!
I don't think the seller was a scammer.. May be a storage auction buyer. May have acquired the laptop in a storage unit and knowing little about the computer just looked up the model and listed it's specs after a quick power on test. I've done the same, but I rebuild laptops so anything i'm not rebuilding, I just sell as-is for parts.
I have an e6410, and for $50 that would be a steal. This series was tough, very tough. I have Nvidia graphics and 6gb of ram too so maybe thats a big difference as well. But like you I would be highly upset. Yes, it's cheap but at least they should have been honest and packed it better. What a shame.
How much did you end up paying total for your T430? I got mine last year for 350 (Canadian Rupees or like 280 USD) and it came with the upgraded 9 cell battery, an ssd, and the upgraded 8 gigs of ram and i was wondering how that compared to the one you upgraded yourself
I once received an android tablet purchase that was shipped inside a morning breakfast cereal box filled with toilet paper. It came busted up similar to your box. Maybe it's some kind of postal insurance scam.
Been on Ebay for over 10 years, it's getting so scammy now. Last 5 months I have banged sellers for 7 refunds for defective, deceptive, no shipping. It's getting pretty bad...
I wanted to know what's the best laptop you can find without upgrading at all or make a list of the best budget laptops I know some people might not like upgrading like me I don't like running risks even if it's little
It's still false advertising, and it's also BIOS locked and using the wrong CPU, so it's not just the RAM that's the problem. It was also likely stolen in the first place if it still has a bios lock on it.
If so, I am still right, check ebay for used laptop ddr3 4gb ram sticks, they are around $15-20 each. DDR3 laptop ram is perhaps the only cheap ram out there.
Haha I once bought a tower for $10 from garage sale. Took it home and slaved the hd into mine. Turns out it was from a (then closed) PC repair store that got busted for selling pirated windows versions. Tons of invoices in it. I zapped the drive and used it for storage. Good thing I was honest.
I have this dell d620 with a t7200 cpu, it has a problem with suspend in linux, the os will go into suspend but not the laptop and the power button doesn't wake it up. I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem with this cpu and laptop running linux. The problem happens in both 32 bit and 64 bit linux os's but not in windows, linux kernel 2.2 and newer have this issue. My other 32bit d620 with a t5600 cpu doesn't have this issue. I'm wondering if it is just the t7200 cpu that has the problem, if so the t7600 cpu is definitely worth the upgrade.
CloudTek99 I fixed a Dell latitude up for my girlfriend and the hing on the display broke so the screen is falling apart... 😂 cant open or close it with out being careful.
Hi there! I've noticed that you are well informed and tech-savvy on a tight budget. That's why I wanted to ask you for an advice. What used (or new) productivity laptop would you recommend for under $500? Thank you very much in advance!
Used thinkpads are always solid, They are some of the only laptops that were really built to last. I have an x200T I use daily, its 10 years old but works perfectly
hp probook 400 series laptops you get get gen 3 or 4 for under 500$. If you look for it. I am running a Probook 440 G4 wth fedora linux. Best computer, I have ever owned! Also heads up some pc brands ship the computer with freedos. Do that and if you want windows you can buy keys for cheap as hell online low as 15$. That will save you alone over 150$.
There is no "best OS for programmers", there is only the environment in which you are comfortable with as well as the compatibility of the programming language with the OS.
You bought a computer from an eBay seller who knows absolutely nothing about computers. They just typed the model into google and listed the specs from whatever random website. It kind of sucks because it's likely that they legitimately didn't know what they had and it sucks for you because you got misled. At least they gave you a partial refund though.
Sounds like an old Bait and switch and ram is cheap. He prolly pulled a stick out before he shipped it due to you low balling him. Not defending the seller though he was in the wrong. Ur lucky to Even get that for 50 bucks and working Condition I've seen worse.I paid that for a laptop Acer Aspire for same price that I had to pop a new drive in and install my own os. You pay for what u get any more my buy was As is so it works and was able to use it for Windows 7 lol works as intended.
Most sellers that don't have a 100% or close to it don't care - and there's always chance that they'll leave a negative for you (the buyer). Simply just move on to another seller. eBay used to be a community of buyers and sellers - it's pretty sad these days - I only use it as an alternative for buying electronic project kits and other cheap junk from China
Sellers literally can't leave negative feedback for buyers. eBay bend over backwards to keep buyers happy, to the extent that they get away with defrauding sellers on a regular basis (return scams). That's what's truly sad about the state of the site.
Not by eBay, but by the seller. Fortunately, eBay is more forgiving towards the customer, so he should be able to get a refund quite easily (and maybe a free laptop, too)
bro please reply, I purchased a refurbished lenovo t510 with i5 520m 4gb ram 250 gb hdd but it's hdd health is 24% and it is very laggy at times even a simple image viewer takes time to load. Windows 10 64 bit is OS. Please reply can a new 100% health hdd fix this slow performance?
Actually a like new HDD would be the way to go. There is sellers who resale new hard drives pulled out of new laptops. Easy to get a great 500GB drive for under $20 on ebay.
Purchase A 128GB SSD , HDD Caddy and A new HDD ,Install Windows On the SSD then mount the HDD on the caddy then replace it with the dvd drive ,no one uses DvDs anyway
Update: The seller gave us a $20 refund to cover the cost of the incorrectly listed parts.
I'd be happy with the $20 given the issues identified.
You should get a Dell Latitude D630.

I also noticed that the BIOS is locked, which should be a red flag there.
I completely overlooked that during the video. Good catch!
That can be easily unlocked. You'll need the hash code and you can calculate the master password.
I wonder if removing the CMOS battery will unlock the bios still do the trick.
I was going to say the same thing. Unless the seller knew the BIOS pw, I would have sent it back. I have rarely found BIOS cracks that actually work.
It was probably stolen. He should've got his money back completely.

There's also a bios password, was that mentioned in the listing?
Can you please link the $100 laptop build with the 6410 ??
That’s funny I used to have a dell latitude e6410. It was a great laptop way back when, only thing was the battery life sucked.
AA Computers & Technology, is a dell latitude i5 3000 series NEW 2017 worth $100?
The laptop was held in customs and they are the ones that opened it up
Nope, customs didn't open it. That laptop went from one American to another. It never crossed a country border.
Have you thought of making a hackintosh laptop? I'd watch!
kali linux so many tools for it
first mistake - buying from eBay unless the seller is 100%. second mistake - not getting the service tag number which will show on the manufacturer's website how the machine was configured to begin with.
I've done the same, but I rebuild laptops so anything i'm not rebuilding, I just sell as-is for parts.
i got me a e6420 like 2 years ago, for less than 100$ with charger, no hdd... the i5-2420m model with nvs 4200m gpu
In Germany I paid for my T430 w/ 8GB, 128GB msata SSD + 500GB HDD, 6 Cell and the i5 3230m 230€ (280$)
In Denmark I paid for my W520 w/ 16GB, 640GB HDD, 6 Cell, nVidia Quadro K2000M, and Core i7-2670QM. Is of 835 Kroner (DKK).
I wanted to know what's the best laptop you can find without upgrading at all or make a list of the best budget laptops I know some people might not like upgrading like me I don't like running risks even if it's little
I would ask for a refund.
Most U.S. should ask for Refund for "cheap stuff Made In China....ChinaWare that is not "broken" , is not "Cheap"(Software made in China)
I think you are very lucky that it works. Another 2gb of ddr3 laptop ram costs very little.
It's still false advertising, and it's also BIOS locked and using the wrong CPU, so it's not just the RAM that's the problem.
It was also likely stolen in the first place if it still has a bios lock on it.
Niall Asher Wouldnt say it was stolen... Maybe a business locked all there stuff and sold off. Happens all the time tbh.
Barack Smith also I believe he needs a 4gb stick... Rams kinda spendy at the moment
If so, I am still right, check ebay for used laptop ddr3 4gb ram sticks, they are around $15-20 each. DDR3 laptop ram is perhaps the only cheap ram out there.
Cause can save hundreds.
Make a video on how to install on board integrated graphics in Ubuntu mate
Just curious what the name of the game is in the beginning of the video?
Nice video keep it up make more videos like this one please keep up the great content
Wow, I can definitely buy those off eBay.
Dude, you never answered my question.Would you be interested in a Dell D531 laptop with no HDD? Thanks🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
who else remembers that $5 garage sale pc?
Haha I once bought a tower for $10 from garage sale. Took it home and slaved the hd into mine. Turns out it was from a (then closed) PC repair store that got busted for selling pirated windows versions. Tons of invoices in it. I zapped the drive and used it for storage. Good thing I was honest.
Please try doing something with a Dell Vostro V13/130. It’s literally the only Dell I like as a thinkpad fan because it looks very sleek and light
The Vostros do look very nice. I think a video featuring one is a good idea. I would like to see how it stands up against a latitude.
I have the e6410 w/ the 560m and NVS 3100m GPU, and i upgraded to an Acer Aspire E 15 w/ the i5 and 940mx
Nathance how is the battery life of the acer laptop? That (kaby lake-R ver, to be specific) is what i probably will buy to replace my old laptop
kenny ricardo Battery life is awesome. Average 6-10 hours of moderate use. But gaming goes down to 1-2 hrs.
I am using the same model. It is good laptop, but the hinges are that big problem that infuriates me all the time.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks a lot!
go buy dell m6500 best laptop so far for cheap
still not a bad deal
ARE THEY GOOD EBAY OR NO
Still does not beat my dell m6500 i won on ebay back in 2016

If it's been open he modded the computer changed the motherboard cpu and memorie
Who was the seller?
what cheap latop i could get that can accommodate min 8GB ram / ssd or more and has a 1080p monitor ,
Frank Kesel I got a Yoga 910 with those specs
W530
I got scammed for Apple computers on eBay, also. Scammers are a pain in the butt...
I bought one of these from a company called iBizbe for $250 and then realized you can buy them very cheap and I could not get a refund
Who's watching this on a Dell Latitude E4300?
Which is the best OS for programmers?
Please replay.
Zestypanda Yes.Are you?
There is no "best OS for programmers", there is only the environment in which you are comfortable with as well as the compatibility of the programming language with the OS.
armanelgtron Thank you for replaying.
kali linux so many tools for it
Linux. but its depends where you are comfortable.
I don't buy from anybody on ebay that is rated less than 99%. The way they calculate feedback is very inflated.
It's really wierd watching your video about LATITUDE E6410 with i5 560M on LATITUDE E6410 with i5 460M D: (I want better laptop)
screw windows 10 windows 7 is better and runs smoother because i am using it right now
want to buy like you too
You bought a computer from an eBay seller who knows absolutely nothing about computers.
I just got scammed my first time on ebay, it really sucks.
Sick video 👌👌👌
Yes
give them bad rating
Most sellers that don't have a 100% or close to it don't care - and there's always chance that they'll leave a negative for you (the buyer). Simply just move on to another seller. eBay used to be a community of buyers and sellers - it's pretty sad these days - I only use it as an alternative for buying electronic project kits and other cheap junk from China
Sellers literally can't leave negative feedback for buyers. eBay bend over backwards to keep buyers happy, to the extent that they get away with defrauding sellers on a regular basis (return scams). That's what's truly sad about the state of the site.
M-ATE
When it says 4Gb, that means he took the second ram chip that has 2GB as well. So basically this was a 2GB dual ram set made into 4gb.
its $50 honestly...
"put togever"
I have one of thesr
Maybe you got Scammed by eBay.
Not by eBay, but by the seller. Fortunately, eBay is more forgiving towards the customer, so he should be able to get a refund quite easily (and maybe a free laptop, too)
only 360p
The video is still processing
bro please reply, I purchased a refurbished lenovo t510 with i5 520m 4gb ram 250 gb hdd but it's hdd health is 24% and it is very laggy at times even a simple image viewer takes time to load. Windows 10 64 bit is OS. Please reply can a new 100% health hdd fix this slow performance?
put in a ssd and you should be fine. (I would not buy a new HDD anymore, the SSD can be reused for a new laptop in case the lenovo breaks down )
Actually a like new HDD would be the way to go.
24% HDD health means the HDD has a lot of bad sectors on it. A new, higher-density HDD will definitely be much faster, but get an SSD if you can.
Yes.
6:00 was in my hp 8560w.
1:34 oof
DUDE!! You've got an i5 with ddr3 ram for $50! WTF are you complaining about?!
Good deal or not doesn't change the fact that he didn't get what was advertised.
It sounds like an older person who wasn't that knowledgeable of computers. Or it could have just been a scammer. Who knows.
oof
I have a Dell Latitude D800. get on my level boi
