@Some_Deist Your premise is wrong: depression etc. exists regardless of theism or secularism - if anything I would say religion can generate and exacerbate mental health conditions. Especially more dogmatic religions can repress people and actively cause psychological harm through constantly feeling guilt and fear, and being criticised by other people because you don't live like they think you should according to their own version of that religion. I don't know why you think only traditional families can give people good lives. It's limiting for everyone to only follow traditional gender norms. What If a father likes to cook and be more involved in caring for children? What if the woman does not want to be a housewife? Everyone should be able to live their lives fully and self-actualise according to their own wishes and inclinations. Also, secularism gave me personally something immensely important: a sound moral Framework, because I actively question everything constantly (which religion discourages you from). In certain religions (e.g. Islam) it's okay to kill in one context and bad to kill in another, depending on whether god randomly allows it or not. Through secularism, I could come to the conclusion by myself that killing is morally wrong no matter what (that's just one example). Because of it's repressive and dogmatic nature, religion does more harm than good and should be a thing of the past in my opinion.

Daniel Haqiqatou simply does not want women economically or financially free to leave bad marriages. His fallacious argument, blaming education for divorce, was utterly preposterous. Some judges award spousal support for a 2-4 years, so the wife to resume her career or to finish some form of education to reactivate her career. If a wife stayed home for 10 years, taking care of the kids, her skills are out of date. She is at a severe disadvantage, when she re-enters the work force. FYI, I'm celebrating my 40th wedding anniversary this December. My husband and I both agree that our marriage is healthy, *because* we can divorce. I remember years back, maybe early/mid 2000s there was a lot of discussion on islamic feminism, and I believe in those time the notion "Islam is feminist" emerged. And now we are in the stage of muslims distancing themselves from feminism especially women which itself is shocking. This all can be due to effective dawah where feminism is painted as something evil and corrupt consept. It is sad that there are people debating on women's education, truly saddening. His two main points always come down to 1. Women must obey men, 2. Islam gives you cummunity/friendships. It's sad that this is the only he thinks he can have women and friendships

Saying women’s sense of morality “emphasizes care more than justice” (not gonna get into that sexist framing) isn’t even necessarily a negative thing. If you think about it, that paradigm is becoming more dominant as humanity progresses. For example, having a social safety net for people, and emphasizing rehabilitation over punishment. Anyways, care ethics is a whole ethical theory and there’s a lot of feminist writing on it.

The problem with the Quran and Hadith is it can justify both these extremely different points of view. But from Islamic historical jurisprudence standpoint Daniel Haqiqatjou is correct. From the standpoint of how the West views Islam Safiyyah Sabreen is correct. The Quran is contradictory and vague, which allows one to cherry point interpretations from Hadith.

    • @j.mtherandomguy8701
      @j.mtherandomguy8701 2 роки тому +1

The issue is, the Western viewpoint on Islam isn't exactly a valid viewpoint, the Islamic worldview is supposed to be based entirely upon the Quran and Hadith, there should not be any external value set affecting how scripture is interpreted and how Fiqh is derived from scripture, for that would be against Quranic commandment(Surah 4:60, Surah 4:65), those that adopt the "Western" view of Islam are simply trying to forcibly read Western values into Islamic scripture, for they see the Western viewpoint as the best viewpoint and believe that the Islamic viewpoint should align with this viewpoint due to their beliefs, they may also be driven by an innate desire to make Islam seem appealing to a Western audience, this is why classical scholarship is much better than modern scholarship, for classical scholars don't have their worldview tainted by Western values or an innate desire to make Islam look appealing to a Western audience, they are focussed on trying to derived the most accurate understanding and from there deriving the Fiqh most accurate to what scripture says.
Besides the Quran actually doesn't allow for the Western interpretation. Many of these "Western" viewpoints rely on purposely ignoring parts of scripture, relying on false Hadiths or straight up twisting the Arabic.

As she pointed Hindu faith. The sacred scriptures of Hinduism vedas were also compiled by women. Women were mantradrashtas. Even the goddess of learning, music , art is saraswati and goddess of veda is gayatri. Even the supreme being in some sects of Hinduism is feminine. I think she doesn't even know what are Upanishads. Upanishads are hindu philosophical litrature. Just like greek philosophical works of Aristotle, Pythagoras, Archimedes etc.
She talked about some University founded by muslim. What did the islamic invaders did when the entered India? They destroyed temples. They burnt Buddhist universities. Students from china, japan used to come and study topics like metallurgy, astronomy, medicine, litrature etc. They burnt Buddhist / hindu libraries. Those books were manuscripts. Islam destroyed the knowledge which we can never recover.
If there is an ideological problem with Islam just blame Christians, jews, hindus and others.

@@whydontyoustfu yes. she was talking about Upanishads, thats where i found it silly. If she had blamed smrutis i would have agreed to some extent. Becouse smrutis are somewhat patriarchal and were even fabricated.
But shrutis are neutral. In shrutis even women wore yajnopaveetam. Some parts of shrutis were composed by women. Now shrutis have become more of men's job becouse later people prohibited yajnopaveetam for women.
Even there are so many matriarchal things in smruti and shriti.
Hinduism doesn't have one a book or prophet. But has bunch of books. Literally its like a library. 4 vedas, 108 Upanishads, aranyakas, puranas, upa puranas, dharma Shastras (parashara smruti, manusruti etc), geetas, agama shastras, tantric shastras, natya Shastra and so many. One can never master all the knowledge of Hinduism in a lifetime.

Since the individual is the carrier of these ideals it seems to me that divesting them of their autonomy destabilizes collective values more than the granting them the freedom of choice. True morality presupposes the fact that the individual always chooses right from wrong out of his own volition.

Well Daniel can simply argue that it is an exception and the fact that barely any women narrate Hadith show that women are weaker in intelligence and are therefore not suitable for education.
He can even back it up with narrations such as Bukhari 304 and then reinforce it with Ibn Qayyim(Student of Ibn Tayymiyah)'s commentary on it in his work Illam al-Muwaqqin an Rabb Al Alamin 2/114.
Although to he fair, there is indeed no scriptural evidence to forbid or promote the education of women so it is really up to the religious leader.
However, one would have to consider, given the status of women in Fiqh, the restrictions placed upon them and their designation in the household it is really hard to justify education for them, especially higher education for they cannot really derive much utility from it under an Islamic State.

When women are empowered they are most likely to have the freedom to complain/ express their sadness in the first place. So the statement " women are now unhappier than ever" is likely untrue, we are just starting to take their opinions and mental health seriously.

      To demonstrate what I mean:
Do you think a woman who lives as Daniel wishes has the right to complain about her status, her situation or her husband? The archetype of the complaining woman is already demonized in Islam so why should she think she has the right to be bothered when she's only fullfilling her "god given role".

i hope she became an atheist or at least started to question the religion after this conversation. the cognitive dissonance is astounding. i’ll never get women defending religion especially abrahamic religions. she seems to be really in denial about the nature of the religion because it’s so tied up with who she feels she is as a person

People willingly hurting others and relishing in malice. There is a word for that. And it's not just in Islam.

If stuff that I say would happen, I would say "don't feel guilty that people support you monetarily" because you shouldn't. But I would also say "Let Matt Dillahunty present the best evidence for any god or gods which has no natural explaination".
