Primitive Survival Camping: Sun Roasted Ants for Breakfast

- Camping in the wilderness in a primitive way requires proper planning and preparation to deal with the harsh elements. While modern amenities can make the experience much more comfortable, I prefer to challenge myself to only use primitive items that I myself made to improve my comfort and meet my survival needs. In this adventure I bring plenty of water in my calabash bottle gourds, my primitive bed and baskets for food collection, and then I spend the warm summer night under a brilliant full moon watching the celestial bodies pass through the heavens and then wake up to a bright orange sun revealing an army of ants surrounding my sleeping mat.

Who films you?
I do. I travel alone, shoot, edit, upload, everything.
How many cameras do you use?
Usually I use just one camera. When I have underwater scenes then I also use a GoPro camera. I get different angles by moving the camera around and repeating the action to create a more cinematic viewing experience for the audience.
Where is this place?
In order to protect the integrity of the natural landscape I prefer to be very vague about the locations I use. There are places that I used to visit that were so beautiful and untouched but the consequences of social media brought all kinds of people to visit and sadly some people do not respect nature and have badly damaged these places. Therefore I do not share exactly where I go.
Do you workout?
Yes, I workout, but not in a gym. I have some weights that I use and also do a lot of bodyweight exercises. I also run and sometimes swim. I hike frequently do collect wild foods and to shoot these videos so I'm very active all the time.
Are you vegan or vegetarian?
I wish I could maintain my health on a primal diet that does not include animals but unfortunately that did not work and I ended up with health problems as a result of those attempts. From my studies, observations of nature, and personal experience I have come to believe that the best diet for optimal human health is a primal diet (paleo).

We have quite a few edible ants 🐜 here in Australia, the local Aboriginal tribe have given me 2 kinds to try. One was a green tree ant that tasted like lime juice, really tangy! The second and most delicious was the Honey Ant, they are underground, quite large and have a giant abdomen filled with a golden honey, very sweet! Thanks for another interesting video, I loved the night time lapse and long exposure pictures! 😎

A cousin of mine who is in Australia recently ate green ants and they tasted like mint. I wonder if it's really worth it to collect them as you probably need a lot to have some calories. I guess it's worth it if tribes around the world do it. Also, beautiful place and great filming.
Interesting! I've never seen green ants. There are so many different species of ants around the world. Yes, you need to collect quite a lot to get enough protein but there are techniques that make collection a lot faster.

In those fancy restaurants, they bring out a stain of puree and a little nugget of something, just feels like they're playing a trick on ya, hiding all the food from you and leaving the crumbs

Back when I lived in South Africa, I usedto catch grasshoppers and locusts, and fry them on a pan with other ingredients. It was actually pretty good!
