- Wacky Workbench Past from Sonic CD, originally composed by Masafumi Ogata, remixed and remastered to CD quality, using the original sound sources and other sounds used in Sonic CD!
This remaster comes our way, thanks to ChilliusVGM! Previously contributing restores for Sonic Jam, he, together with Nuclear, and Collision Chaos Radio, with daypeecone being the main mixing and mastering engineer on the tracks, intend to restore all of the past themes from Sonic CD! Utilizing the original sample sources, alongside some other sounds used in Sonic CD, all of the sounds are mixed together to create a track that fits right in with the other CD quality tracks. The result is stunning, and one we hope you all will enjoy.

i remember the first time i was playing with level select in sonic cd and went to wacky workbench past, i literally remember thinking "wtf, this music is so funky" and was like dancing to it the whole way through lol

Not a mechanical wasteland, Wacky Workbench is a factory. The mechanical wasteland of little planet is Metallic Madness. Because ever every classic sonic game has one mechanic wasteland.
It was originally some place called Crazy-ToyBox (Which fun fact, the same actor who did the past and future voice lines is also in the present version yelling the original name but it is roboticized indicating that robotnik controls this land)
Metal has a mouth on the art. You just need to look and the little line is there...

Although not out right stated, it could be inferred that there's a possibility one or more instrument tracks could be layered with other sounds used in the game's OST added as extra flavor so that it sounds like the other CD version tracks.
But this also doesn't rule out it being just the original patch.
The only way to know definitively is if you know the exact patch used from the synths in the OST or by asking the arrangers if it was layered or not.

I'm gonna assume I made this comment because Yoshi's Island tracks were getting restored around the same time, and this song shared the Harmonica from Flower Garden (I think Flower Garden was updated/reuploaded with a different Harmonica sample though, so it's not actually the same).
That reminds me, I decided that the future of Marble Garden Act 2 (from Sonic 3) was Magma Cavern (from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 1). Similar trend.
I see this channel's all about remastering and whatnot. Definitely up my alley.
It's not even a joke, when the music started playing, I was scared because of the sound quality that was far superior to the original

I knew flower garden and wacky workbench were similar. Crazy to know the harmonica was the same.
when i decided to play sonic cd i was instantly so pulled in by immersive visuals and music. so much so that it brought me back to nostalgia of my first sonic3&k playthrough and why in the first place i liked sonic games.
words can't convey how big happy grin ya made me now, especially hearing how a remastered version sounds sick.

This sounds so good! I love the sonic CD tracks. Classic sonic games have some of my favorite music. If you do more of these then I would suggest PLEASE do stardust speedway past. That would be PHENOMENAL.

@@TitanusOptronix ccr's are more focused on perfect accuracy to the original past tracks. the ones on this channel take liberties in order to make them sound more in line with the present, good future and bad future tracks.
@@ChurchofKondoh I've talked to him. He's a very nice guy. I'm remastering the unused loop samples and he helped by posting them in their native quality.
All we need is a remaster of Collision Chaos Past. With these remasters and the Salad Plain mix of Palm Tree Panic Past, we've got the perfect Sonic CD soundtrack

I wonder why half the music in Sonic CD is played by the hardware and the rest is Redbook. For years I knew the soundtrack but not the game itself and didn't realise I had only the CD tracks!
It's most likely due to space limitations, most of the CD the game is on is taken up by the Redbook tracks (I'm not sure exactly how much, but I think it's about 21MB for the game itself and the rest is CD audio). It also could have been an inside joke between developers that sample-based sequenced audio was of the past. It would have been nice to have Redbook versions of the past themes, but we now have the prototype Palmtree Panic (or salad plain) and now this wonderful restore project!
It was for space limitations. It took up much less space to have it run by the system than to run the higher quality music directly from the disc. It’s also why the past didn’t change in the USA version
It makes me so happy that y'all are doing Sonic CD! The Sonic games have absolute bangers and I hope you guys might do other ones too!

I love this theme. But, is anyone else irritated still that the makers somehow expected you to figure out the pistons (or whatever they are) don't crush you but allow you to drop? How was I supposed to know the generator required a suicide attempt in the middle of the level?
Yeah WW1 is the only level in the game with genuinely baffling robot generator placement.

The game's soundtrack was already CD quality? It was on a CD. You could put it into a CD player, even. Mostly what this video seems to do is just speed the music up.
The Past tracks in Sonic CD weren't in CD quality, if you put the game into a CD player you'll notice they aren't there. If you put the effort in and compare between the original you'll notice the higher fidelity this one has.
All songs from the past are created in real time on the console with various data from the instruments. As a type of programming, that's why in the United States band they couldn't Alter as it was code and not a premade track
