I bought the Openrun Pro 2 a couple of days ago in my opinion they give clearly better sound quality than the first generation Openrun Pro. That said, I totally agree with the comment in the video that they are nowhere close in sound quality to any similarly priced traditional headphones. What I only partly agree with is the comments on sound volume. I agree they aren't very loud, but I still never use mine with high enough volume that I feel much of the vibrations. I've tried to use mine on public transport and they just don't work for anything with loudish background noise. Best review so far I have watched! I have been a fan of Shokz since the aeropex model when they were still known as aftershokz. I personally thought the openrun and openrun pro were a step back from the aeropex model, thus I will be curious how these will hold up to the aeropex. I did recently get the openfit and I absolutely hated them. The sound quality was the only thing I liked. The controls were awful and rarely ever worked so I was constantly using the device I had them paired with to control them. The bluetooth connection did not pair well and was inconsistent on how much distance I could get. They always felt like they were going to slip off of my ears when exercising. The worst part was that the direct pitch made me feel like I was wearing those inner headphones which I can't wear. I was developing ear issues and headaches that I get from inner ear headphones. In the end I sent them back, returned to wearing my refurbished aeropex, and will be getting a pair of the openrun pro 2 to see if they are worth the hype.
I've owned every single version of the shokz. This one is much better. It isn't mind blowing like any in ear headphone, and it probably never will be but the bass is way more balanced and the vibration is gone. Of course I also set the eq through the app, which is probably important as well.
I just received them two days ago and I am impressed so far. I don't feel any vibration, which is a big improvement compared to my OpenRun. Since I have these on most of the day, I prefer the orange of the UR Pro 2 to the blue of the OP. Also, the bass is amazing!
Can I suggest you try the open fit? I am seriously impressed with the sound quality, due to them sitting actually over the ear canal rather than in front of them. I bought them, over the open run, for this reason. I think the sound quality is much better.
Ah good shout, I might give them a go too. I mainly use my Openswim Pro as they work across all the other things I do in the water but the Open Fit looks great!
@@JakeOski they are really comfortable and light, and the app does also give customised control options, which I think has been improved from when they were first released a year ago, from customer feedback.
Where possible, yes, USB-C is required by the EU. But you'll find that some devices don't have space for USB ports, like watches, so they're excluded. Maybe just the part of the cable that goes into the charger itself.

YOU know if you use foam ear plugs with your Shokz open (whatever) you get amazing sound quality and volume at incredibly low volume and you can still hear your surroundings. Best of all worlds. Never had to use any of my Shokz at high volume so have never experienced the "vibrations" which seem to be everyone's new "complaint" . Also never experiences the "leakage" spoken about ( must be a result of high volume I think). I have Shokz from their first offering and every iteration since. They are still the best to me ESPECIALLY for comfort short or long term.
Ear plugs are a sticking point for me as all of them fall out of my ears easily. I'm ok with vibrations, when running it doesn't really matter as my fat vibrates way more than any headphones ever will 😂
Thank you so much Jake for the review, it is awesome! Speaking of comparing Pro2s with transparent mode buds, which I use on low sound when I'm bicycling. I can hear surroundings and music leaving the quality outside the frame but it works fine as a background. Wondering if Pro2 would sound better in this scenario
just a note not sure why but my phone and Bluetooth sounds are different for the open run pro and pro2 i tend to leave them on max on the headset. but the phone Bluetooth on like 40%. unless its my cheap phone lol.( mac does this too ) ? so who knows it might be its the dule device mode, so it sets Bluetooth settings within the headset itself and sound are separated. (give this a try) anyhow love them either way. Audio books, pod casts, programing, music. prefer these over anything. as a web & software dev usually stuck with people calling or other dev,s bosses talking about features. anyhow good vid! +sub
Thanks bud! I’ve tried and it doesn’t seem to be the same in my case - there’s only difference between Apple Music and Spotify and UA-cam Music as AM has some voodoo that limits the output to equalise songs across the board. I don’t mind though, I only use them for being outdoors when doing stuff so awareness is more important to me than full blast :) Stoked you love yours!
I’d say so - purely because of different technology used with Openrun 2 Pro. The other main difference is that Suunto Wing comes with its own powerbank and lights for night running and cycling. Also, Wing is a bit louder but I wouldn’t say that’s a massive difference. Both are amazingly solid headsets.
Hi, thanks for being unsponsored. OpenSwim Pro and OpenRun Pro are the same price here. I don't care about music. I plan to use them for audiobooks and podcasts, and I don't care about waterproofing. But I am concerned about vibrancy, clamp force, comfort, and connectivity with Android and Windows. Which one is better? The OpenRun Pro 2 will take too much time to be available here. Is it better to wait, or will one of these be enough?
@JakeOski I got OpenSwim Pro. After using it for 2 hours, I woke up dizzy the next day. Is it normal? Should I replace it with Openfit Air? Or is it only the first time and I will get used to it?
In some ways they're different enough to the originals that calling them 2 is a bit false. The bone conduction element of them is far far less than the originals - but as you point out, that has some benefits - it's just that they no longer really seem like "bone conduction" headphones with how heavily they lean on traditional "air conduction" to get the sound in your ear.
It's a tough one - air conduction definitely provides cleaner sound and with the shape being the same as all their Openrun Pro and other products I get why they wanted to keep the naming continuity.
The bone conduction part of it is still the biggest part of the sound so even though they are hybrid, I still see them as more bone conduction than air after using them for awhile. I close my ears and can still hear good music. The base is actually more balanced than before in that situation. If you plug your ears with the older bone conduction only models, The bass is WAY over saturated and affects the higher frequencies. I think the air conduction has really improved things a lot to help balance the base. With ears plugged, The sound dynamics in that situation sound very similar. Big difference between the older model. I am sure most people don't use them with earplugs in (I do when mowing my lawn), but I am only bringing this up to show that while the air part is used for bass in normal situations (ears not plugged), the majority of the sound is from the bone conduction. For those that do use ear plugs at times, The new model makes a huge difference. I haven't seen anyone mention that in reviews yet.
@@JakeOski Yea. Most likely don't use earplugs for an IPS 55 sweatproof model. I myself find that earplugs are great for some situations where plugging your ears are relatively safe, external noises are very loud, and you normally wouldn't be able to use open ear headphones (heavy equipment, lawn mowers, wife (j/k of course), etc. I can get the best out of both worlds... open ear when needed and sound isolation with cheap earplugs (in safe situations of course).
Thanks for the review, mate-just what I needed. On a different note, I might be wrong, but I think I can detect a bit of an accent in your voice, and I'm dying to ask about your background.
Thanks! I'd sae the same as they compare to Shokz Openrun Pro or Openswim Pro - they are clearer and you're not getting the vibrations as much as you get on standard bone conducting headphones. On the other hand, Suunto Wing comes with it's own battery pack, LED's and they felt louder than Pro 2's.
Oh ok ! I've seen a few comments here and there wondering about the actual impact of the bone conduction on these. Like if you slightly remove them from your cheekbones can you still hear like 99% of the same through air conduction? I would go and test myself but I tried literally all the shops in my area already 😢😅
The United States hyper link for the open ear pro2’s is broken. Sends me to Amazon by says the product is no longer available. Please fix so I can use your affiliate link 😎
For now, it's always a tradeoff. Sound quality for awareness. The louder something is the less you can hear of something else. That is to say, there is no technology where we can have amazing awareness and great sound quality at the same time. These are for people that want to listen to some light background music while they are cycling or really needing to be fully aware of their surroundings. For instance, these are not needed for working out in a safe environment where there is very little chance of communication (others talking to you) and danger. You should review these based off their intent and not the unrealistic expectation that you want (an no technology has).
Tested this week, no vibration great, usb-c great, look great BUT I commute 8 hours a week and go through a fairly quite Oxford (at 07:00) and with light wind and buses I need to put it on about 75% volume unfortunately they lasted 4 1/2 hours, Now my beats flex last a whole week I used in left ear when on the road and put the right in once I hit cycle paths, they are clearer on 25% and the batter lasts all week the biggest bug for me is battery power I expect them to last al all day ride 6-8 hours at least but 4 1/2 - 5 hours is simply not good enough it means I would need to charge half way through a long ride day :/ I really wished the battery would better
Since it's also using air conduction, can other people standing beside you hear your music and phone calls? With the first gen it's only bone conduction so people cannot hear but Im not sure about the Pro 2. Great review and thank you
If it's a silent environment they can hear something, but it's not really significant sound leakage, especially when you're not listening on a full blast.
How is the sound quality of the Openrun Pro 2 compared to the Suunto Wing? You mentioned the Shokz had to be at a higher volume, does that mean the Wings have a larger volume range (and do the Wings get the bone conduction buzz at higher volumes??
The Openrun Pro 2's are definitely cleaner but the Wings are louder. The buzz happens the same as on the original Openrun Pro / Openswim Pro as it's the same tech essentially, maybe with a tiny bit less skull vibrations. Have a look at my Suunto Wing review here ua-cam.com/video/c9Cly3xMmt4/v-deo.html
@@JakeOski what about the original OpenRun vs the Wing? Which has better sound/clarity/loudness? Sorry to harass you about this but I haven't seen any comparisons online.
I am contemplating these because in rar buds just do not work for me, no amount of in ear buds I've tried will stay in , i must have weird shaped ears. If they get drowned out in very noisy environments, I'm fine with that, i try and steer away from those places most of the time anyway.
I sweat A LOT. Will it affect the sound quality if my sweat gets in the Air Speakers? I have soundcore aerofit pro. It gets distorted whenever sweat covers the speaker
How do they fit under a beanie or buff? Soon it’ll be winter and the ears gets cold 🥶 And is the sound quality heavily affected by a beanie or buff? Thanks 🙏
Ive used Shokz products and also have these new set. For me it cuts all the advantages of bone conduction and replaces it with air drivers. Yes they sound better, but not as good as similar priced headphones so whats the point? Again your diminishing the bone conduction advantages to get better sound, but not as good of sound as you could with earbuds or over the ears.
They still do a good job on the bone conduction side as pointed out by someone below with added air drivers. But I totally get your point too. One caveat with other type of headphones is that Shokz-like shape actually doesn't fall off my head when doing stuff. No buds I've ever had (and I went through plenty) actually ever stayed in my ears for any sensible length of time when working out and over-ear headphones make me sweat like a moose on gooseberries 😂
@@JakeOski I agree that there is advantages to the design in terms of staying put and sweet. I disagree they do a good job at bone conduction. I have A/B tested with my older set and here is the thing. The air drivers add sound. I know that sounds normal, but what it does is raise the perceived sound level across the board. The new version at 20% volume sounds as loud to the listener as the old version at 50%. But at 20% volume there is almost no bone conduction. So turn it up to 50%. At that level the new version has good bone conduction but the air driver is now blasting. To the point 3rd parties can hear what I'm listening to. Literally can point out the song. They aren't balanced correctly.
The point is , some of us cannot wear in ear buds full stop , and over ear headphones are not practical at times . You don't like them , by all means buy what works for you.
@@mikldude9376 I do and I have other Shokz products. My problem isn't the product, it's Shokz marketing these as a step in bone conduction tech. They are not. Full stop. Bone Conduction is an after thought on these products. The heavy lifter is the air drivers which don't just handle bass. They are full range and over 50% of the relative output.
I wonder how those sound in high speed/high wind conditions. I do road cycling and with speed over 35 km/h the wind is to strong for the open run pro to give me good sound. How are those? I have openrun pro and love them and wonder if the upgrade is justified
If the vibrations are not a nuisance to you I'd say stick to what you've got. I've had them bombing down the trails and haven't had an issue with sound quality / volume that much. It's more of a "nice to have" rather a necessity. Something like upgrading from iPhone 14 to 16 ;)
I just found out about these and I have tiny ears even tho I’m a tall/bigger girl and so no earbuds have ever worked went to Best Buy to try them out and my husband with his elephant ears thought they were great too!
Great review! Answered all my questions and you kept it interesting and engaging. I recently got the open swim pro and I’ve been super impressed at their performance in the water. They also work well for climbing, and I mostly listen to podcasts, because yeah, these are never going to be music focussed headphones. The one thing I’d love on the open swims is a USB C, the priority port is a major drawback - so this is a step in the right direction for Shozk. I also like the magnets! 🧲
It's about 8h when going on full blast, I guess you can get close to 12h when having them at 50% volume but I never tested that. I'm dying after 10k so... 😂 They charge quickly too so it doesn't really bother me.
In terms of calls? They do a really good job when it's windy! When cycling I haven't had much issues with the previous editions to be fair. They are equally as bad as all the others when things get very noisy - so that can include wind under your helmet / straps (depending on the lid you're using).
@@JakeOski so I actually bought cheap headphones Havit Freego 1 Air for $20 to first test viability before investing $200 for shokz and they are surprisingly good 😆. The leakage is like within 20 cm only. For doing chores good enough, actually really great.

I'm ok with vibrations, when running it doesn't really matter as my fat vibrates way more than any headphones ever will 😂
Got them also and I do t think they are louder. Clearer sound yes but not louder
Fully agree!
Maybe slightly as they don't rely so heavily on the bone conduction here
just a note not sure why but my phone and Bluetooth sounds are different for the open run pro and pro2
i tend to leave them on max on the headset. but the phone Bluetooth on like 40%. unless its my cheap phone lol.( mac does this too ) ? so who knows
it might be its the dule device mode, so it sets Bluetooth settings within the headset itself and sound are separated. (give this a try)
anyhow love them either way.
I don’t mind though, I only use them for being outdoors when doing stuff so awareness is more important to me than full blast :)
Stoked you love yours!
Did you do the sound leakage test or demo at 100% volume? Just trying to gauge how much a co worker may hear if I use these in a quite office setting.
That was at full blast - people around you can definitely hear what's up when it's over 50%. Same as on the Openswim and pervious Openrun to be fair.
@@JakeOski thank you
Are they better than the Suunto Wing/Sonic in terms of sound quality?
OR2 Pro will provide cleaner sound than Openswim Pro for sure. Everything else is the same in regards to comfort etc.
@JakeOski I got OpenSwim Pro. After using it for 2 hours, I woke up dizzy the next day. Is it normal? Should I replace it with Openfit Air? Or is it only the first time and I will get used to it?
@@Omar.Ayoubi I can’t really see a connection there bud. Try again and see!
If you wake up dizzy , I'd be mentioning it to your doctor matey , this could be something totally unrelated .
Cheers.

@@adam.gibson I don’t think anyone tested these with ear plugs on since no one is swimming in them! But good point dude!
@@adam.gibson Makes sense! Although with my wife the signal for "please don't talk to me right now" are my Bose QC's 😂
Thanks for the review, mate-just what I needed. On a different note, I might be wrong, but I think I can detect a bit of an accent in your voice, and I'm dying to ask about your background.
It’s a decent mix of travel mate :)
It's so weird but yeah i got my openswim pros and they fit in my full face I like your honest reviews
I might just have an oddly shaped head 😂
Thanks for the review ! How would you say they compare to the Suunto wing ?
@@fulcrumthewhite I've never really had that issue with the bone conducting ones either to be fair :)
Ok good to know, thanks again !
I have the previous model USB C port alone sold me on the upgrade
It's the small things ;-)
The United States hyper link for the open ear pro2’s is broken. Sends me to Amazon by says the product is no longer available. Please fix so I can use your affiliate link 😎
You’re an absolute legend! Thanks, should work now 🤘🏻
finaliy an honest review!
Thanks, appreciated!
Finally I can upgrade from the OpenMoves now that they make another one with a USB-C port!!
Hey dude! That’s odd, maybe do a couple of charge cycles and see if it improves? Mine lasted longer than this
Since it's also using air conduction, can other people standing beside you hear your music and phone calls? With the first gen it's only bone conduction so people cannot hear but Im not sure about the Pro 2. Great review and thank you
If it's a silent environment they can hear something, but it's not really significant sound leakage, especially when you're not listening on a full blast.
@@JakeOskithank you
How is the sound quality of the Openrun Pro 2 compared to the Suunto Wing?
Same dude and I haven't had that issue so far!
How do they fit under a beanie or buff? Soon it’ll be winter and the ears gets cold 🥶
And is the sound quality heavily affected by a beanie or buff?
Thanks 🙏
I don't own a buff but no real issues with a beanie :)
Something like upgrading from iPhone 14 to 16 ;)
Can you please let us know how is the mic quality for the swim pro and for the run pro 2? Thanks ?
They are very comparable, the OpenRun Pro 2 has slightly better wind noise cancelation but both are fairly decent!
I just found out about these and I have tiny ears even tho I’m a tall/bigger girl and so no earbuds have ever worked went to Best Buy to try them out and my husband with his elephant ears thought they were great too!
Yeah they defo solve that problem! We all should start Weird Ears Association 😂
Is it the mini size ?
That's the standard one
Great review! Answered all my questions and you kept it interesting and engaging. I recently got the open swim pro and I’ve been super impressed at their performance in the water. They also work well for climbing, and I mostly listen to podcasts, because yeah, these are never going to be music focussed headphones.
The one thing I’d love on the open swims is a USB C, the priority port is a major drawback - so this is a step in the right direction for Shozk. I also like the magnets! 🧲
How do they perform compared to the Oladance OWA Sports?
No clue, never had Oladance OWA, sorry :(
What about battery life?
Cheers
It's about 8h when going on full blast, I guess you can get close to 12h when having them at 50% volume but I never tested that. I'm dying after 10k so... 😂 They charge quickly too so it doesn't really bother me.
has anyone used them in loud environments with ear plugs to cancel noise?
That would work better with the standard Pro's due to the bone conduction
Does it handle wind noise any better?
In terms of calls? They do a really good job when it's windy! When cycling I haven't had much issues with the previous editions to be fair. They are equally as bad as all the others when things get very noisy - so that can include wind under your helmet / straps (depending on the lid you're using).
Here’s a Video idea! You should do a comparison with movengine’s m800 supposedly beats this out of the water and its foldable
If they'll get in touch as the official product launch isn't till December 2024!
@@JakeOski love the competition! Always better for the consumer, can’t wait!
@@Gowithderflow oh absolutely!
Great review!
Thanks dude!
Thank you for saving me.
The most important question is, can somebody hear what I am listening to while doing home chores? (here 8:20)
Kinda, like all headphones of this kind there's some sound leakage especially if they're on full blast.
@@JakeOski so I actually bought cheap headphones Havit Freego 1 Air for $20 to first test viability before investing $200 for shokz and they are surprisingly good 😆. The leakage is like within 20 cm only. For doing chores good enough, actually really great.
If you want to buy top of the range bose they should not be compared to 200$ running headphones.
I like how you’re arguing with yourself here 😂
I cant take any review seriously when anyone compares anything to Bose. There are far better headphones (Sony, Sennheiser, etc). Use them as a baseline at least.
