You are an observer of fear-more detached form it-and able to re-think. I had a miracle! You see the root, with an understanding and gratefulness., as a spirit being

very cool, there were some great observations and questions here about MDMA/MDA but also about drugs in general - I thought the "self-report effect loop" was a neat way of trying to quantify short-term tolerance, and I wonder if there are drugs in the world (psychoactive or not) that produce something closer to that theoretical "straight up/straight down" example.
I wish someone would have asked a question about their survey methodology, specifically the "marks on a line" method of responding to questions. I've never seen that before (which might be because it is novel or because I am a layperson, i dont know) - I wonder if they adapted it from some prior study methodology or if they devised it themselves. A few observations: he mentions the utility for this system in getting participants to answer a high volume of questions in a short amount of time, and that makes perfect sense to me. I also think asking people to think in numbers, like in a "1 to 10 rating" system, can induce a kind of analysis paralysis for many folks, and their answers might be heavily colored by a western academic background where "5 out of 10" is literally an "F" whereas a mark in the dead center of a line is unlikely to carry that same connotation.
Maybe my biggest question about their method is if people could see prior responses when they were asked repeat questions over the given time intervals. This seems like it could cut both ways - there might be a real benefit in giving people a "clean slate" each time they respond, maybe it helps prevent the people-pleasers from trying too hard to answer in the way that they think they are supposed to be answering. However, it's also worth mentioning that the drugs being studied are intoxicating and in some way literally hallucinogenic - a response method that asks people who are experiencing visual disturbances to assess their experience with the spatial construction might be problematic. I would be super duper interested in checking out any research that attempts to evaluate this system versus other common self-report systems, to see if any systematic differences arise.

Just a thought 💭 I am transgender and have a lot of anxiety about exposing my true authentic self. I wonder if mdma might help with therapy for transgender people. It’s also a lot like ptsd, and might actually be similar depending on the individual situation. Anyone investigate this? Awesome talk. Really clarifies the effects etc.

if you wanna risk addicition sure. i mean yes it can help but the risk for people that have anxiety or arent happy is a bit too high i would say. Especialy taken without controlled doses timeschedule's and self dosing of street drugs.

honestly, doesn't matter transgender or not.. anxiety and issues about dealing with your own ego and personality are the same thing.. psychadelics and mdma can be both a blessing and a curse.. I would personally recommend psychadelics over mdma, but there is a big risk. Psychadelics are almost harmless physically, but mentally they can bring out your deepest fears if you don't have much control over your "trip", which can lead to feeling even worse.

I find it ironic that empathy has been drastically been going down over time in society, yet all these MDMA hippies always talk about empathy...So all these empathetic MDMA hippies are actually becoming less and less empathetic?

    • @riniks112
      @riniks112 9 років тому +13

''MDMA hippies'' is a small demographic. So if people in general are becoming less empathetic that does not necessarily mean the ''MDMA hippies are becoming less empathetic.
It could indicate that they are being outnumbered, as empathetic people are more likely to go for ''investment parenting'' mating strategy instead of ''lustful, shallow spray and pray''.
      Among other things.

ligitpoker Bravo, and well said. Fine bunch of talk about 'empathy' - but seeing is believing. Quoting one of few credible researchers, "MDMA induces feelings of warmth & empathy, reduces aggressive behavior in mice ... for only a few hours. Afterwards - a number of functions (including aggression) are adversely affected. In young recreational Ecstasy users, Curran et al (2004) reported a significant increase in aggressive feelings, and behavioral indices of aggressiveness." (www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/legacy/thereporters/markeaston/26_02_09_prof_ac_parrott.pdf) Your observation of irony, & question of decreasing empathy - not increase (the Story As Told) - touches an "Us/Them" ethic that manifests all too often in those who've Seen The Light. Broader values of inclusivity and diversity, pursuit of better mutual understanding - are displaced and deposed. So we get a brave new psychedelic 'world mission' of true believers. Kudos to you for noticing the discrepancy between word and deed - it seems to glare as thru a glass darkly

***** I guess the word ''investment'' has a negative egotistical connotation.
But that's what it all is, a connotation, personal interpretation bases on assumptions.

+hu0wen You must meet different investors than I do. Most non-professional investors, and even some professionals, get into "sunk-cost" thinking. As their stocks go down, they hold onto them even more tightly and invest more and more, hoping to have a big return later. This is because they "fell in love with their stock" as I hear a lot from stock investors.
I find this also happens in a lot of co-dependent and other relationships with difficult or drug-addicted family.
And you'd be surprised how many traditional families and cultures around the world find it acceptable to disown, abandon, or give away their own children - or rather - "liquidate their investment as soon as they're not likely to turn a profit".
"invest in your relationships" or "invest in your children" is very common parlance these days. It's just a modern way of reinterpreting karma, in my opinion.
+ligitpoker The drop in empathy among the young has been found to be due to social isolation, selfishness-promoting parenting techniques, and anonymous internet culture itself. No one has found any link to the very, very small percentage of the population who have used MDMA. Here are some articles you can check out:
