    In this video segment, Joe shows off his amplifier setup during the 2009 tour. The four amp collection includes a 20 year old custom Bogner, a Marshall Jubilee, a JB-100 Carol-Ann (1 of 10) and a Van Weelden Twinkleland, which according to Joe is the only one in the US.
    Be sure to check out the other Rig Rundowns with Joe Bonamassa as he walks us through his lineup of guitars and demos several of his pedals on his pedalboard. And as always, be sure to visit www.premierguit... for more gear news and the COMPLETELY FREE digital edition of Premier Guitar magazine.

    he and eric johnson both use pentatonic runs, as does everyone. they only thing similar between them other than delay and not liking treble is that they're both damn good enough to hear every note perfectly.

    I was just watching Joe go through his rig at guitar center and preaching about how it's best not to build your sound over "one-of-a-kind" pieces of equipment.
    Fast forward 10 minutes: I'm now watching this video and he claims that he prefers the 1987 version of the jubilee and that the Van Weelden is one of 15 in existence.
    Way to throw us off, Mr. Bonamassa :D .

    @9reasy5am he's referring to preamp distortion. The plexis are non-master-volume, which means they have to be cranked to get the real dirt. The Jubilee is a master volume amp, and has diode clipping in the preamp section. In other words, it has a ton of preamp gain on tap.

    people have been playing scale sequences for hundreds of years. ej learned the pentatonic scale sequences from his jazz fusion background. he is also a piano player and was before guitar so he probably learned many scale patterns on piano and applied them to guitar. all i'm trying to say is there is way more to EJ's style than fast pentatonic sequences. he pulls off stuff joe would even admit he could never think of also, his chords are beyond many people's i think.

    hmmm.. you can get it sorta, But I recommend seeing a show of his and stand right in front of the stage, you'll hear why he combines amps. Very articulate tone with lots of low mid growl. It's the purpose of creating more midrange, and a defined tone with lot's of smooth gain.

    @Tonycaveman I think he was reffereing to like effects and rack stuff etc etc. Probably wasn't talking about amps cause you cant get two-rocks and carrol anns at gc nor can you get category 5 amps. They might have a pre owned amp from one of those amps I just mentioned , but it would be rare.

    LOL, I agree with you, but if Joe didn't beat everyone to the EJ quote, everyone would have said it. EJ may not have invented the pentatonic stuff, but it's the way that he does it that's like no other...very original. SRV isn't playing anything original if you listen to his idols, but the way he does it, timing/phrasing is amazing.

    So using the Lehle A/B/C Switcher Box he is able to use his diff. Heads at the same time. I thought he said he would run Two at the same time and still be able to use his pedalboard. I was trying to use my Splawn Quick Rod & my Mesa Rectifier Head & run it all through my pedalboard but I was wondering how others did this. It seems they use this Lehle A/B or A/B/C switcher :-) If that's all there is to it please let me know.

    • @BoxcarFred
      @BoxcarFred 7 років тому

      Run the cables from both amps into an A/B/Y pedal that switches between amps. Then you can play one amp (A), a second amp (B), or both at the same time (Y). There are switcher pedals that are triplers too, that allow you to switch between three different amps or use a combo of any two of the three at the same time. Look up "A/B/Y switches" on Amazon. There are a lot of good ones out there.

  • @TomMilleyMusic
    @TomMilleyMusic 12 років тому

    i dunno, i've heard al play stuff that sound very EJ or JB like. more JB because he tends to pick more notes while EJ actually does more pulloffs than people think. but really, for those three it's just the way they break up the scales into sequences. if you use the same ones, you're going to sound similar. personally i think they all sound different but have overlapping influences

  • @coolguy4sho
    @coolguy4sho 14 років тому

    @Blackoutwalkin no guitar snobbery just a guys a opinion and his friends and what we have discussed etc. i dont hate joe and still like his playing but wish he wouldnt do those pentatonic runs so much that came from eric johnson. i like everything else joe does i just think he does that too much. only reason im saying something is because i am a fan and i do go to shows and buy his records. i wish he would do the slower stuff more. im surprised he reads the comments. just the voice of a few fans

  • @jhypes3
    @jhypes3 14 років тому

    @coolguy4sho Okay so you seem to be judging his sound off of this one demonstration, but it doesn't seem like you've actually listened to his new albums lately because theres alot more than just the Eric Johnson sound that you talk about. Every guitarist is gonna have sounds drawn from others, and Joe is no exception. Atleast he's got the balls to admit when something sounds like someone else. Also don't make it sound like you're the voice of the fans, because it looks like people still dig him.

  • @TomMilleyMusic
    @TomMilleyMusic 12 років тому

    no i'm not. joe sounds closer to the earlier eric johnson when he sounded more clapton like, but even so i can tell the difference right away. EJ has a lot more to his style than what joe does. joe's EJ style runs actually sound more like al di meola, who was actually an influence on EJ's style when he was with the electromagnets.

  • @9reasy5am
    @9reasy5am 14 років тому

    This always confuses me: is the jubilee a fully functional guitar amp, or just a guitar preamp? I have always heard joe refer to it as a preamp marshall, but I think I've heard of playing it straight to a cabinet without a separate power amp. any ideas?
