      ...and Like and Subscribe. DIY the Grappler is the only one on YT doing dry pour on a regular basis. He started out a month or so ago having never done one, and now he's done six. Each one is just a little better than the previous one as he learns from others and implements the improvements. LOVE this guy! Well, I like and subscribe to this guy!

    Hey Brother. So if I understand you it seems like you did the first two mistings and immediately put the towel on to finish doing your showers. Of course you do the towel/burlap method after the initial watering but if you are going straight to towel watering after misting I think thats a new technique. And seems logical that it will help.

    • @DiyTheGrappler
      @DiyTheGrappler  Рік тому +3

      Appreciate it 🤙 yes you are correct 🤙 around 2-3 quick mistings,soon as the top starts to harden,then straight to the Burlap towel method 🤙 then continue to water for the next 7 days🤙 next remove the form/towel ,,then continue to water for 28 days🤙

    • @dchall8
      @dchall8 Рік тому +1

      I agree using the burlap/towel on dry pour is an innovation. When water lands on the towel it does not affect the surface underneath, so you don't necessarily worry about washing any loose material away. That means you could run a sprinkler on the towel to keep it moist.

      My friends🙌I made a mistake, mist more than 2 times! Mist double /Triple what ever it takes until top is hard🙌 then it's safe to use Burlap method 🙌🤙

    Great Video! thank you so much! the patience part in screeding is what I need to work on. even starting early in the morning , the Florida sun can be brutal. I am going to setup a canopy over my work space next time. I tend to want to rush to get done because it gets so hot! I also have alot of pavers that I didn't have the patience to get them to level in the form. I may try with the next slab and maybe even if I do not get it the way I want , cover it up and work on it the next day. My surfaces don't have any aggrigate but when I go to do my edging it crumbles and shows the rocks. I will strive to work like you on the next ones.

    • @DiyTheGrappler
      @DiyTheGrappler  Рік тому +1

      🙌🙌🙌hope this helped!🙌same happened to me with the edges,,I used the pudding knife to take off the excess off of the form then edge and repeat this process multiple times until the edges are clean 🙌🤙 if the rocks are showing on the edges I would use a topping an inch or 2 on top like Sand mix/repair mortar/rapid set mortar mix 🤙 this will help with the over all finish! Good luck!

      @@DiyTheGrappler so far I’ve only gotten decent edges or mostly decent using the edging tool after the misting and before the second showering. I don’t know if it’s the size of my slab or what. But even having mostly sand mix on top or around the edges it disintegrates and then still exposes the aggregate or just crumbles. If I wait til it’s moist it’s somewhat better.

    Awesome! Thanks..great vid. For a 10x16' cracked patio, I am considering a dry pour top coat with sand mix over an existing pad....like 1-1.5" and pitching it down so water drains off from FL afternoon storms. I might roll on a bonding agent. Have you used the sand mix on its own or had any experience there.

    • @DiyTheGrappler
      @DiyTheGrappler  Рік тому +1

      Awesome 🙌 haven't used Sand mix alone,, only as a topping with Dry pour concrete 🤙 would definitely suggest following the Cajun country's method of misting until the top layer is hard before any heavy watering or using a burlap type curing method alone with adding the bonding agent your talking about 🤙 with repair mortar or rapid Set Mortar mix a bonding agent isn't required 🤙the three bigger tan colored slabs in my video are all topped with rapid Set Mortar mix 🤙been testing different toppings 🤙good luck on your project✊

  • @tomjones4093
    @tomjones4093 Рік тому +1

    My first question: It seems the last pad you did (in this video) was the best one yet. What did you use for a watering schedule. This is the first time I've seen anyone use the concrete/sand mixture. It looks great. But you never gave the time schedule for watering so the water could make it through both types of mix that you used. My second question: did the concrete under the paver pads you put in manage to get wet enough to set up? It seems to me that the pads would block the water from getting underneath them. Thanks for the videos. I was hoping to find something like what you put out to show how to fix the roughness that came with the concrete mix alone.

      Appreciate the feedback
      1- question answer
      I would follow Cajun country's watering method👍but I mist wait an hour mist again wait another hour 3 mists =3 hours then wait until top layer is hard then I use the Burlap water curing method (using a towel)
      I water 2-3 times a day (making sure towel stays wet) for 7 days (keeping the form on for 7 days to keep moisture in) after the 7 day i remove towel and continue to water for up to 28 days to help slab maximize strength 🤙
      2 question
      Few options water the ground or water 1st layer of Dry pour
      I tried multiple variations
      Now I water ground Pour dry concrete and use Burlap water curing method to hydrate dry Pour Concrete 👍

    I did my first dry pour yesterday it was going perfect until I made a mistake: it was 100 degrees outside and I did not let the water from the hose run to cool down so after using hot water it created bubbles 😢 on my finish . I finished with cool water and the rest of the project kept a intact . Thank God it was only in 3 small areas but guys if you live in hot climate let water cool down first by just letting it run until is cool . When I said hot water I meant so hot it was very uncomfortable to touch 🥵

    • @DiyTheGrappler
      @DiyTheGrappler  Рік тому +2

      It happens you can always fix those small spots that didn't come out the greatest 🤙 on your next one try compacting to eliminate or reduce trapped air pockets in the Dry pour 🤙

    • @DiyTheGrappler
      @DiyTheGrappler  Рік тому +2

      Your location is a big factor, if your in a dry hot area 🙌 I would compact and use the Burlap water curing method for 3-7 days and use some form of topping whether repair mortar or Sand mix 🤙to help with smooth finish 🤙 bubbles usually caused by Air pockets being trapped under the Dry Pour after wetting they make there way to the top🤙 exact same thing happened to me on my 1st slab🤙 solved that problem with compacting and hitting the sides of the form with a rubber mallet to remove air voids in the mix🤙 good luck on your next one!

    I'm wondering if using the higher end 5000 concrete for the base would result in better product for high stress use? Both Sakrete and Quikrete make a 5000 high strenghth product, but more expensive, but has higher ratio of fine to aggregate. Then top with your 5000 sand mix or maybe with the higher end you don't need the topper? Curious what you think about this?

    • @DiyTheGrappler
      @DiyTheGrappler  Рік тому +5

      From screeding,, sawing motion back and forth, but need to do this multiple times meaning, you screed and attempt #1 isn't good,, put more Sand mix in the spots not smooth and screed again , attempt number 2 is a little better, but not the best , put more Sand mix start from the beginning until all the way smooth, repeat filling low spots and screeding process until you are happy after use a paint roller north and south direction then East and west, this should only take one to two passes to get nice smooth finish, but if not and your not happy,you can always start over add more Sand mix topping then screed the roller, repeat process until you like the end result 🤙

      @@jeannehaid5429 my pleasure! It's a super common problem! The common possible reasons are rocks in the concrete that show at the top or air pockets rising after wetting 🙌 concrete is 3 things put together
      1-Rocks
      2-Sand
      3-cement (to glue them together)
      Sand mix topping is sand and cement (no Rocks)holds 5000 psi (per sq inch)the high strength concrete most of us are using is 4000psi with this topping or Repair mortar 6000psi(Same mix sand and cement) you get a smooth finish 🤙the object is to screed and push down the Rocks to get a smooth finish 🤙 so by adding Sand mix or a strong mortar you are making it easy,,in this case you don't need to push the Rocks down,,due to there is none🤙
