Help, did a 12x18 dry pour and used the wrong mortar mix any suggestions on how to fix?
This video helped a ton man appreciate this content. Did a dry pour slap like "test run" today and it came out pretty ass (the part that was not so good was the edging). Thanks for the tip about cleaning up the form edges before actually edging the concrete, gonna try this on the next one
How is this slab holding up with the mortar mix?
Did you have problems with the sand mix on top getting air bubbles coming to the top?
Have you done your driveway dry pour yet ?
I think you cracked the code. This is it. I want to do your process on a 20x20. I will use a compactor on crushed rock, dry pour 20% concrete pour, hide a ton of old pavers and then add rebar to it, then add 65% dry pour, then put the finishing 15% topper sand dry pour for the smooth finish.
Use a sanding block for concrete with diamond pattern. It will smooth that edge off nicely. Also once you butt up crushed stones, pea gravel, grass, fake grass or soil for plants, no one will look at those edges (except you). Good job. As a wet pourer myself, im a big fan of dry pours bc it allows everyone to get a chance at playing with concrete. It’s a magical thing that is simple yet to adds a ton of value to your repertoire that normally costs thousands for professionals to do. Also with cost of building materials adding up, concrete is super cheap and gets you amazing custom results when you get the hang of it.
Thanks for the experimentation.
I would have put the pavers after you compacted the dirt so you wouldn’t have to wedge them down
Jeffrey Dahmer reference is hilarious 😂😂😂😂
Good job
Oh man thank u so much I needed to fix mine🎉🎉🙏🙏
It’s your sidewalk so you can do what you want but if you read the specs for a mortar mix, that was way too thick. Mortars are only meant to be used as a “skim” topping. Lots of hairline cracking will probably result. If I had a rough concrete surface I wanted a little more finished looking, there’s nothing wrong with skimming a mortar mix over it but I wouldn’t do it ‘dry-pour’ style. Just mix up a small batch and skim it with a trowel. After it sets up a bit, give it a light broom finish. But that’s just me.
Stay gold
for all that time could have mixed it in a wheel borrow with a garden hoe and just poured it n screeded it wet last alot longer
When you do the top layer what watering technique did you use? How much water?
How thick was the sand mix in top? What brand is it? Mortar mix?
Come back
Good info! 🙌 (And nice fart at 9:14 🎉)
Such a great tune! Sweet mailbox structure. Are you still planning to dry pour your driveway?
BRO WHERE YOU BEEN??
Thank you for the putty knife idea Will use it tomorrow when I do the dry pour
Dry pour 😅😅😅😅😅. Only a lazy imbecile would do a "dry pour"
For your driveway how long do you plan on keeping it wet? Just dry-poured a back patio extension and still watering a few times per day, but not sure how long I should continue given it'll need to withstanding a pergola and lite foot traffic.
My dry pour turned out rocky. Can I put this mortar mix over it to make it look better?
Just started a dry pour project 🫡my father had construction business as a kid that’s what I did in my teenage days my dad would always go back to work sites a spray the concrete Your right brother it’s all about the curing process 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿
Good information brother 😎😎
I appreciate your videos. I'm a single mom and have decided to tackle doing my own backyard landscaping with the help of my kids. I am dry pouring my pavers as well having watched several youtube videos. I thought it would be easy, but there's so much to learn. After having done it (I'm 3 pavers in), I realize it's trail and error. I've made a few mistakes, but I'm learning. I like the way your pavers came out, smooth and clean. My son has been a big help to me on this project. btw: he also has been training at an MMA gym. He's been doing jiu jitsu since 2nd grade. HS wrestler. I'm wondering if he thinks about concrete while grappling as well. lol. All the best. Thank you so much for your advice.
Because you talk so much about nothing...its hard to know just how you did this....Otherwise you could have done this in three minutes......too bad
according to these experiments, dry pour without moist curing gets to 1000psi and dry pouring with moist curing gets to 2000psi. 2000psi is more than enough for patios, side walks, and shed foundations. ua-cam.com/video/PgYVE8EE_ck/v-deo.html
Looks pretty good !
Thanks for posting my man.. You got my respect by using the mask. You are the only one I've seen wearing a mask. All these other folks are inhaling all that crap.
DIY The Grappler 👍👍👍
Wonder what tamping the dry before wetting would do?
We did wet pour concrete garage floor , 400 sq.ft. Using concrete bricks we salvaged to make 50% of the volume. 20 years later, no cracks
I was just thinking about compacting the dry concrete when filling up the form, wondering if it would help. Then I see this video and I think ima give it a go! I've already got my patio that im gonna do set up with fill dirt and my gravel base. Next step for me is my forms and then the dry pour itself.
Is a puddy knife like a puddy cat....?🤔😁
I did that without knowing it jaja. I had to fix a dry pour slab that the top layer went krispy crunch and i had to remove it. All because the air pockets getting to the surface. I let the under layer to vent out the air pockets and then throw the topping mix and now its fixed!!
Nice!!!!! We have to get creative and do what have to do sometimes!
Your farts caused me to leave.
🤙🤙🤙 appreciate the feedback 🤙I used to stand strong on my memes , gifs and noises,,but watched a random video recently, had a lot of memes and noises, that moment I realized how annoying it is 💯
botta bing botta boom up your
🤙🤙🤙
Finally! Somebody realized water curing is necessary for ALL concrete work, wet or DRY. Also a properly wet cured pad will be darker gray then a wet pour like most contractors do today (pour and run). When I dry pour underneath houses for HVAC systems, I utilize HF moving blankets, cheap and "soakable". I also have run a piece of wood around the top of form with caulk, then "pond" it. Concrete will only take the amount of water it needs. Impressive you did research unlike so many others who just see and do.
Appreciate it!🤙🤙🤙
I appreciate you, wish i would have seen this sooner, i did a dry pour a few months ago and i felt like i had to pour more water than i thought i should, and i was doing it for a week or 2 and i felt i needed to do it longer... but i stopped and let time finish
🤙🤙🤙how did the finish product come out! 🤙
Nice work bro ...
Appreciate it 🤙💪
Sound effects suck.
Thank you 🤙
Nice!!! I took a break. Waited for cooler weather and after holidays. January to April I hope to finish and maybe even fix my mess ups. Only 2 more 5x5’s .
🤙 awesome yeah,,it's a grind in the Florida heat,, weather is better now🤙im finishing up this pathway at the moment, should be painted by next weekend 🤙
You can also use an orbital sander to vibrate the boards to get it packed tighter
🤙🤙🤙
FYI- parked a ford f550 (front axle) on my 6” thick, 6 month cure dry pour w mortar top and no crack! 👍
Nice!!!!🤙🤙🤙
I did that but the top layer of the mortar mix, bubble up and chip. Dnt know why
Unfortunately air pockets made there way too the top,,I usually compact,,and vibrate or hit the sides with a rubber mallet or hammer to eliminate the air pockets as much as possible,,I actually just posted a video and did my dry pour a different way to solve that problem 🤙 let me know if you need any more advice to solve that problem 🤙
good to see you back! thank you
Haha appreciate it 🤙
UA-cam marked this video for kids so couldn't comment when you originally uploaded it lol. Update came out good Are those pours light enough for you to be able to move? I might do something similar in my backyard but want to move them so there is no gap inbetween each one.
Good eye🤙 accidentally Mark video for kids,,so no comments were allowed, change it to adults🤙 yes they are actually light enough to move,,the last paver / slab by the gate door I moved by hand,, thinking about staggering the slabs in the future 🤙
