    Very unique record collection. Love that style of music.I've been mostly collecting 70s hard psych,hard blues rock,proto metal, and 80s hard rock, heavy metal. Enjoying your channel. Take care

    There is always room on UA-cam for another middle aged man talking about his record collection. I'm glad to have found your channel. For the longest time I used to hear Americans talk about Psych all the time and wonder what they were on about before I worked it out. I've probably got more psychedelic records than I'm aware of, I just don't think of them as such. I was into Hendrix from an early age for example but have only recently come to think of The JH Experience as psychedelic rock. Anyway, either you've got a colorful living room or somebody has spiked my tea. I've enjoyed seeing some of your records. Cheers

      Thanks for tuning in John. So much stuff now gets classed as psychedelic. I'm pretty sure a lot of those didn't consider themselves as such at the time. I've always thought of Hendrix as psychedelic though. Are you experienced? He could hardly be more blatant. However, is Tim Buckley or Jeff Beck psych? Maybe the Yardbirds are. Where do we draw the line? As I said in one of my videos -Are the Butthole Surfers psychedelic? They're pretty weird.
      Oh, and I'm recording this in my music room rather than the Living Room. It's much less psychedelic in there!

      @@Mark-Take444 I'm probably quite conservative (with a small 'c') about that sort of thing. I'd feel less comfortable about labeling any artist or band as psych that existed outside of the original mid 60s early 70s period, but then I break my own rule in that regard as I collect Prog records, many of them that fall outside of the late 60s to late 70s period.

    Wow! What a fantastic collection of psych! I'm envious of so many! Can't seem to ever find any copies of UK Kaleidescope, they definitely need to reissue that. To have both of their albums is a dream. All of the stuff you showed in this video is stuff that I dream about 😂. Definitely subscribed!

      Hi Sorin, thanks for the comments. It's taken a long time to get it all together. A lot of these albums were very cheap back in the 1980's.

    Hey Mark, just stumbled upon your channel. Psych is right up my alley, so I’ll be enjoying watching you share your collection. The fact that you have the two UK Kaleidoscope originals and two Elevators originals is 🤯. Amazing introduction to the VC. I’ll be binge watching your other videos in the next few days. ✌️

      Hi, Thanks for tuning in. I also have an original of the Live Elevators album from 1968 but didn't show it. It's really not that great and has the audience added to earlier studio recordings. Recently there have been much better live releases which I will get around to eventually. The Kaleidoscope albums are very expensive now but I bought these back in the 1980's when the prices were much lower.

    That Red Krayola is a favorite of mine. I need the first Country Joe and the Fish. I’ve never seen that remixed version of Tomorrow. What a great bunch of Psych albums.

      Hi Richie, Yes I love that album too. Very off the wall and unlike so much other stuff from then. You really should check out the c joe album. It's one of the best early psych albums. Section 43 is very spacey. The next one is equally brilliant. The Tomorrow remix is good but the artwork really lets it down. It sucks. Big Time. I've watched your videos for 3 or 4 years now. My last comment was about The Exploited-Punks not Dead...It just smells a bit.

    Hi There.
    Came here via PsycheDereks' channel who gave you a shout out..jyst subbed.
    Fantastic collection, great to see Tomorrow, The End and Love etc..i do like psych music but originals seem to elude me and of course are usually expensive, so i opt for reissues, lovely to see you show originals.
    Looking forward to seeing more.

    • @Mark-Take444
      @Mark-Take444  8 місяців тому +1

      Thanks. Originals can still be picked up via Ebay. The price obviously depends on what it is but not everyone knows what they're selling. charity shops can also turn up some good stuff.

    Glad I found someone on U-tube with the same taste for vintage psychedelic music. Like you, I started seriously collecting in the 80s when great records were easier to find and prices were much lower. Cheers!

    • @Mark-Take444
      @Mark-Take444  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes the prices were much much lower.On the one hand it must be difficult to pick up stufff if you're new to psych but on the other everything has been reissued and the amount of information available is incredible. I can remember first hearing about the 13th Floor Elevators from someone. You would never see their records unless you were in London. They were completely unknown in England at the time.

    A fair few of the bands you mentioned I saw around 1968/72, who could of thought that some of their albums would be so sought after. Don’t think you mentioned Andromeda, I didn’t think they were that great live, but there album is now popular. Blossom Toes, Mighty Baby, Writing on the Wall and more were ok live. My favourite bands I saw quite a few times live were Stray, Quintessence and Mott the Hoople, Stray had a fantastic light show and smoke bombs. When I first saw them they knocked me out they were so exciting, being only 16 they were very memorable!

    Good evening,it's only manners to introduce myself, ím Stuart I found your channel through Psychederek, who I've watched for years now,he mentioned you're UK based,do I had to look in and subscribe, I'm ín Edinburgh, but I don't have a channel, I'm just a watcher, plus I've not bought vinyl for 30 years but im a consummate buyer of cd,of reissued late 60s/early 70s psych, and posthumous releases, I'm usually a UK and US psych guy,but i also collect South American, Australia and New Zealand psych, Pop, early prog, folk rock...on cd,i have a rather large collection that I'm passionate about, it's my only hobby,but it's eating away at my space in my flat.
    There's something about UK psychedelia that is unique, the closest to it's sound I feel is from Australia and New Zealand, with studio effects like phasing/flanging, backward tapes, heavy compression, and a more accessible less blues approach than much US psychedelia, UK psych can be very whimsical lyrically, rather poppy, childlike,it can be heavily orchestrated like Butterfly by The Hollies, or soft and whimsical like Muffin Man from World of Oz, or hard and heavy like Juniors Eyes, folk orientated like Incredible String Band or Paper Bubble, more mod gone odd with Ruperts People and The Creation, then that psych/prog crossover like Locomotive, Harsh Reality, Grail, Caravan and the 70s had it's fair share of UK psych like Moonkyte, Magic Carpet, Nektar,Hawkwind, Byzantium..... there's so many facets and sides to UK psychedelia,so many outlets in other genres that were effected by psychedelic influences like folk and jazz.,but UK psychedelia covers a whole horde of influences thdr😢
    I absolutely love, the psych/Prog crossover sound is of real interest to mine, usually around late 68 but the changes were happening through 1969 into 70 and 71.... things like early Yes, Writing On The Wall,Arcadium, Norman Haines Band, Saturnalia, Julian's Treatment, Horse, Spooky Tooth first 2 albums, The Ghost, Velvet Fogg, Salamander Ten Commandments.... etc....
    Apologies for this overlong post,I hope you don't mind I've added some points to your enjoyable video:
    Pat Kilroy went on to New Age then unfortunately died before Christmas 1967.
    Fifty Foot Hose, usually put ín the same category as United States of America and Lothar and the Hand People,but I think theyre more eerie and dark than either both USA and Lothar and the Hand People.
    Tomorrow Christmas on Earth was available on cd with extra studio recordings quite a few years ago.
    Never seen the Brian Jones Moroccan album, wow!!!😮
    Faintly Blowing is my preferred album from Kaleidoscope,I find it more trippy and slightly tougher than Tangerine Dream and of course as Fairfield Parlour, that album IS indeed a good one too.
    Yes Beacon From Mars is indeed my fave of the US Kaleidoscope, they like most other bands went country with Bernice.
    Mighty Baby debut album is brilliant,Jug Of Love they'd turned to sufat religion, and that second album is certainly more mellow and acoustic, ALL their recordings including Habbibiyya album wás reissued by Sunbeam.
    Blossom Toes, again Sunbeam issued all their material on cd, Esoteric have since reissued their albums, massive changes in sound from."We Are Ever So Clean", album to "If Only For A Moment ", then BB Blunders"Workers Playtime"is another worthy album ,all 3 albums different from each other.
    Yes I have that 13th Floor Elevators CD box set, that is becoming very expensive,but I'll never sell it.
    Thank you Mark for showing some of your collection, it's looking impressive with some marvellous music contained within them.
    Love the Sitar on the wall..... very nice,it would be great if you could play it!!
    All the best Mark
    Stuart (Edinburgh)

      Hi Stuart, great to hear from another psych collector. I'm based in East Anglia.
      My sitar skills are rudimentary shall we say. I have a nice guitar collection and have been playing since I was around 16. I have released some stuff on Fruits de Mer records which I'm sure you're aware of. I'll probably be doing a video on the label at some point.

      Hello Mark, I'm not aware of your releases on the FDM label, I'd be interested in knowing about them Mark.Apologies as I'm one of those enthusiasts who always prioritises original psychedelic stuff from the 60s and early 70s on cd as money is tight, so I don't really buy much new stuff,but I am interested in knowing your releases Mark.
      Yes the repackaged Tomorrow set, the artwork is awful, along with the Tony Hazzard repackaged Tony Hazzard Sings Tony Hazzard album on cd, with some different songs added but with horrendous artwork too.
      Thank you Mark.

    • @Mark-Take444
      @Mark-Take444  8 місяців тому

      Hi Stephen, Yes that's when I picked up most of my now very expensive albums. I picked up Faintly Blowing for about £3 I think in an Oxfam shop in the 1980s. It now can go for £2,000! It's great that they're worth so much but it's really not why I buy them. I never really sell stuff unless I have duplicates. It's the music that counts.
